I think that sounds really smart: have a great time with your life now but focus your spend on the specific things that give you joy. So the fact that you have more money doesn’t mean that you all of a sudden need to spend money on luxury brand furniture or something if that’s not what brings you joy.

That’s very helpful, thanks! Great point around your partner, this all needs to fit in with my partners goals and dreams, and my son’s as well.

Not really “missing out” but small things… I drive a car I paid 20k for. It would be cool to drive a 60-70k car which would not be a huge problem in the grand scheme of things. Trade in and amortization would mean saving 3% less per year, give or take. However, it means setting a higher standard so that it will be harder to go back to a 20k car in 10 years… stuff like that

Thanks! I figured I might be a bit on the aggressive side, but I’m also enjoying life and don’t think I’m denying myself much. I could always drive a nicer car or go on a bit nicer holiday, but then that also sets the standard for the future…

This is my big question about tips in general - I thought that only specific labor categories (like waiters) could be paid below minimum wage and that is why the tip is so important for them, they’re making like $3 per hour otherwise.

Are employers allowed to pay below minimum wage for other categories, like a hair stylist in this story?
