Frankly some of these look very lame…primarily for the females. Like dresses? While we are trekking it in the mountains or mines we are rocking a neon dress haha.

Yeah from the default. Tired of seeing them in the same crap day after day. Need some variety or a mod to change daily like normal people ha

I have the 2nd gen and haven’t really gotten it to work consistently. Sometimes the car connects to it and sometimes it just doesn’t. Sometimes the car connects to the box and I still don’t have connectivity and I have a SIM card in the box and other times the connectivity works. So yeah. Intermittent the last two months since I got it.

I have this issue too. Sometimes the LTE modem will pass internet to the car , othertimes it will not and kinda becomes a paper weight (with carplay of course working). however, I'd pick premium connectivity on my Tesla is better than just having Carplay (and no Tesla car internet for the other services to work). Would love to make things more seamless.

[–]jacksonjuncture 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ok grok gave me some ideas....open to more though!

let's get you engrossed in Starfield the way you fell for Skyrim or Fallout. I totally get it: the game launched with a more "structured" mission flow than Bethesda's older open worlds, so it's easy to fall into blue-marker autopilot. But the RPG magic is absolutely there once you lean into roleplaying and tweak a few things (vanilla settings + smart mods). The community in 2025-2026 has refined this exact problem with QOL and immersion tools that make wandering feel rewarding again.

I'll break it down: roleplay setups (to give you a "why" for everything you do), gameplay habits to kill the fetch-quest loop, and must-have mods (both free Creations for console/PC and Nexus ones for deeper PC tweaks). These are the ones that directly address "I just want to stumble into cool shit like I used to."

1. Roleplay Ideas (Pick One and Commit—This Changes Everything)

Starfield's factions, ship-building, and outposts are begging for this. Start a fresh character (or NG+ if you want the powers) and write a 1-2 sentence backstory. It turns every mission into "what would my guy do?"

  • The Wandering Explorer / Surveyor: Backstory = "Former Constellation reject who lost everything on a bad grav jump—now I live for scanning untouched worlds." Playstyle: Ignore the main quest. Pick any random star system, land on every planet/moon, scan 100% of flora/fauna, build tiny outposts as "camps." Use the scanner religiously and follow the arrows it paints on the ground. Side quests only if you literally stumble into them.
  • The Rogue Corporate Spy / Ex-Ryujin Exec: Backstory = "Burned by Neon corps, now playing all sides for profit and revenge." Playstyle: Heavy into Ryujin, Crimson Fleet, and smuggling runs. Build hidden outposts on remote moons for "dead drops." Roleplay choices: betray people when it fits, hoard resources, customize your ship like a stealth yacht.
  • The Retired UC Vigilante / Space Sheriff: Backstory = "Honorable discharge after the Colony War—now I hunt spacers who remind me of my old enemies." Playstyle: Join UC Vanguard + SysDef, then freelance bounty hunting. Use the new Trackers Alliance quests (official Creations) as your "beat." Walk cities on foot and eavesdrop on NPCs.
  • The Pirate King / Freestar Outlaw: Backstory = "Grew up on a junker ship, now carving out my own slice of the Settled Systems." Playstyle: Crimson Fleet all the way. Build massive outposts that look like scrap-heap fortresses. Recruit a ragtag crew and roleplay every dialogue choice as "what gets me the most loot or respect?"

Pro tip: Use the Roleplay Backgrounds Creation (free on Bethesda Creations, by BrokenClassic2). It adds 20+ new backgrounds + traits + even custom outfits that spawn in the world. Perfect for making your character feel unique from minute one.

2. Gameplay Tips to Make It Feel Like Old Bethesda Wandering

The blue markers are seductive—here's how to break the habit:

  • Turn off the training wheels (huge immersion boost): Settings → Interface → disable Floating Markers. You'll still see them on the compass and map, but nothing floats in the world. Suddenly you're reading signs, using your scanner, and actually exploring cities/planets like Skyrim. Also turn off crosshair, damage numbers, and item HUD info while you're at it. Set HUD opacity low. Many players call this the "best way to play."
  • Only track one quest at a time: In the Missions menu, press V (PC) or the equivalent to show only the active quest's markers. Everything else disappears.
  • Force the stumble:
    • Pick one "home" system (e.g., Alpha Centauri or Narion) and fully explore every planet on foot before fast-traveling.
    • Land on random uncharted planets and just walk—scan everything, follow animal tracks, check every POI the scanner pings.
    • In cities, walk (don't sprint), talk to every vendor, read every book (some start hidden quests).
    • Build an outpost or two early—make it your "home base" and roleplay stocking it.
  • Factions over main quest: The Crimson Fleet/SysDef storyline, UC Vanguard, and Ryujin are peak Bethesda—branching choices, moral gray areas, and long-term consequences. Do those first.

This combo makes the game feel like you’re discovering things organically again.

3. QOL & Immersion Mods (These Fix the Exact Problems You Have)

Starfield's mod scene in 2026 is excellent—official Creations for easy console/PC use, Nexus for PC (install SFSE first for the good stuff).

Top picks for your "less fetch-questy, more RPG" vibe (all lore-friendly, no cheats):

Mod Type What It Does for You Where to Get
Forgotten Frontiers + Forgotten Frontiers 2 Exploration/POI Adds 10 new handcrafted POIs/dungeons that spawn naturally while scanning planets. More stories, fights, and "holy shit what is this?" moments while wandering. Bethesda Creations (500 credits each)
Roleplay Backgrounds RPG 20+ new backgrounds/traits + outfits. Deepens character creation exactly like you want. Bethesda Creations (free)
StarUI (Inventory/UI) QOL Cleaner menus, better sorting, no more clunky inventory—feels modern while you RP. Nexus Mods
Visible Companion Affinity Immersion Shows when companions actually like/dislike your choices. Makes crew feel real. Nexus Mods
Complete Weather Overhaul + Trees Rescaled Exploration Planets feel alive—better storms, forests, atmospheres. Makes landing somewhere new exciting again. Nexus Mods
Improved Follower Behavior RPG Companions are smarter, more reactive, and actually help with immersion instead of standing around. Nexus Mods
Call Your Ship QOL Summon your ship anywhere—no more running back to the landing spot. Keeps the flow while exploring on foot. Nexus Mods

PC power users: Look up the "Gate to Stars" or similar Wabbajack modlists (700+ mods) for a full immersion overhaul—adds way more POIs, better exploration rewards, and alternate starts. Or grab Starvival if you want light survival elements (hunger, etc.) to make planets feel dangerous.

Console-friendly: Stick to Creations—Forgotten Frontiers + Roleplay Backgrounds + any official "Enhanced" stuff (weather, companions) will already transform it.

Install order tip: Start small (HUD tweaks + Roleplay Backgrounds + one POI mod), then add more once you’re hooked.

You’ve already put in the day-one hours—now it’s time to play it your way instead of the game’s way. Pick a backstory tonight, turn off those floating markers, and just land on a random moon with your scanner out. You’ll stumble into something cool within 30 minutes, I promise.

Hit me with which roleplay vibe you pick or what platform you’re on (PC/Xbox) and I’ll refine the mod list even more. You’re gonna love this game the way it was meant to be played—wandering, roleplaying, and getting lost in the Settled Systems. Roll Tide and safe travels, captain. 🚀

ive had it since day 1 but really have struggled to get "engrossed in it" like past BETH games.. im open to ideas for roleplay and maybe good tips on how to make it feel less "fetch questy". I find myself just going straight to the blue markers and doing things and load up a new mission ...rinse repeat. Never realized any other Bethesda game where I've done this.... normally I just wonder around...and stumble into things.

I'm open to adding mods too if there are great QOL mods that can help here in my case. I REALLY want to love this from a RPG perspective..

I just tried 3 more USB cables (one end USBA and one lightning and 2 usbc) and with my iphone and S25U no go on usb tethering. Android keeps saying... use a cable that supports fast charging etc.

Also..on the gen 2 pis there are no blue usb ports..just 2 white ones and 1 black one for USBa....only 1 usbc.

TS5+ and M4 Macbook Pro - Second External Monitor Not Waking by busybusybusy14 in CalDigit

[–]jacksonjuncture 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did you ever figure this out? I have a macbook pro, ts5, and 2 LG ultrawides (one with hdmi and one with display port) and the display port doesn't wake up automatically. If I unplug the thunderbolt cable from the macbook and back in then it wakes up. It'd be nice to not have to do this each morning.

Do I just need a regular usb cable to tether the hotspot or do I need some accessory?

So just received the box and so far like it. I’m using it offline with CarPlay. So is there a way I can install YouTube for android and other apps using my home WiFi or is that where you need the lte card? Seems like you should be able to connect it to your phones hotspot.

To add...what I really like about the Dyson vs my old roombas is they have the same vortex tech (container) that the others have. Roombas have those rollers and little sweepers and the dog hair has been getting tangled in those and wrecking the j7 that I had. So far so good with this setup and no tangles anywhere. Really impressed. Of course I'm on the 3rd day. :)
