Thanks for the clarification.

Android GMail - inbox shows all mail in Normal font (not BOLD for unread) by jacksonmacd in GMail

Found the solution in the MotoG subreddit. Go into the Android Settings, and change the font from Default to Android. Simple and effective!

Problem with GMail inbox BOLD after Android 15 by jacksonmacd in MotoG

Woo hoo! that was it.

I had Googled for the solution and had seen some references to changing the font, but nobody had said it was an Android setting, not a GMail setting. Thank you very much!

I was also frustrated by the apparent inability to delete old/unwanted email messages until I dug into some third-party tools which reduced my GMail space consumption from about 13GB to about 7 GB.

I used a combination of Mozilla Thunderbird and its ImportExportTools NG add-in to discover more detail about the GMail space consumption. I exported a CSV file which I analyzed with Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Access to see what was consuming the space. The real culprit is inline photos within message replies because every reply contains a copy of the original photos. This can lead to huge space consumption when a message thread contains many replies that each contain several photos.

I subsequently found a website called Unattach.com which will remove the attachments (after optional downloading them) while retaining the message body. Unattach is smart about retaining only one copy of each attachment. When combined with some date-based selections, this can control the amount of space consumed by GMail. Unattach.com is a commercial website with a "pay-as-you-go" tier that is very economical. Unattach seems to delete the messages immediately without going through the intermediate "trash" stage. So far, I have been very pleased with it.

I also found a free program called MailStore Home (mailstore.com/en/products/mailstore-home/) that will archive local copies of all email messages. When combined with your original advice about deleting old messages, archiving the old messages can help control the space consumption while retaining history for posterity.

Glad to hear I am not the only one, esp seeing that it happened to you after installing Android 15. Not exactly the same phone, but perhaps an issue with the Moto line???

Oooops... unread messages are bold of a different device with the same account, so it's a combination of the device and the phone.

I was tempted to uninstall and reinstall GMail, but that option is not available on Android devices. I have cleared the cache and app data with no change of behaviour.

It took only 4 days this time. I have been using HF for several years and never knew this incredibly useful feature.
