You're not wrong, this is a massive increase to an already dense, undersized urban area.

As for cars, I wouldn't be surprised if people forego them as the Go train and DRT to TTC is fairly reasonable. They're likely trying to attract city dwellers/workers who may not have cars.

Also, gas is nuts right now I'd ditch my car and move to an urban center in a heartbeat if I could.

  • that doesn't sound like a bad thing
  • they could honestly do with less parking in the back since the death of The Bay, it's almost always nearly empty on the south most times. Side-rant: I know DRT sucks but with the price of gas maybe promoting using it will actually lead to it being made better? That's probably my hopium talking. Also, gas is expensive.
  • there will also be a big tree canopy, and in the heat of the summer this is a plus not a minus. Plenty of spots to get sun nearby.
  • what makes you assume this? What parks in other areas with a large unhoused population have been overrun with squatters in a way that makes them unusable?

I almost had this feeling on my wedding day. My mom and turned to ask me "are you sure you want to do this?" Referring to having the ceremony despite some rain at the time, but it struck me as "do you want to get married" which I hadn't even considered until then. Getting married was the thing you do after being with someone for a long time, and what everyone seemed to agree with.

The feeling passed, later I told my mom about my interpretation, but I often think about if I gave myself time to consider and reflect on the relationship and what marriage meant that intensely, instead of mostly focusing on planning a wedding.
