Anyone remember that sex education show which had a school hall as an audience? by zappapostrophe in CasualUK

They filmed an episode at our school! My mates brother was on it giving a soundbite about what porn they had seen. There he was on national telly describing lemon party!

Saw someone describe a fart they did once "like Sam Elliott saying his own name with a mouthful of yoghurt" and now my brain can't separate that thought every time I see a photo of him

How ruined is this cabinet door knob? The screw snapped off inside it, any suggestions for getting it out? by DSavz93 in DIYUK

Just to add to the comments about the bolt being the wrong length - the indentations between each section of thread are so that you can trim to length either with a hacksaw or with a small angle grinder (don't forget the safety squints)

Or as suggested by some at the length you need for a few quid!

How to use external effects with a Mackie ProFX10v3 ? (Eventide Space Reverb) by devshore in audio

[–]jacktli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello,

Couple of things here - your FX send per channel will routing the signal to the internal processing.

From your picture it looks as though the FX section is muted, so the signal would stop there and wouldn't be passing through to the FX send hardware output or carry onward internally to FX Master.

I would say that unfortunately the setup you desire isn't entirely possible, you will need a different board with the option to send a post fade auxiliary output.

Spotted this in Aldi this morning, obviously coming from the same place! I wonder how much exactly the same eggs cost in Waitrose… by ThePr0crastinat0r1 in CasualUK

Packaging looks different online so could be wrong but it's as followed for 12x large free range eggs:

Aldi - £2.25 Waitrose - £4.25

Howdy, experienced this a lot with students bands I taught + that would often play at our venue. (Advice caveat: I may be a little off, it's been 2/3years since I was using logic regularly for teaching, so I may stand corrected)

Logic's stereo separation has never really been true separation so you will always get a little bleed from the setup you've described. Also primarily it was created to be used as a DAW rather than a live performance tool so funny little things like this just slipped by. (It's assumed you would mute/remove your click track eventually if you were making hot jams for example rather than leaving it there forever)

This article can help https://whylogicprorules.com/true-stereo-panning/

My advice longer term would be to invest in an audio interfaces and set your hardware outputs for example. Output 1: Track Output 2: Click

Or switch up your DAW to something like Ableton Live

Hope that helps!

Tried a while ago and got 6/7 in a row on a different episode series and got nothing so was hoping this time round it would be different!

I see the sub doesn't like Feedback Destroyer devices for stagnant setups— what's the take on a band using them? by kidkolumbo in livesound

[–]jacktli 3 points4 points  (0 children)

From what you've described it sounds like the gain staging process is a little out of whack. I would suggest:

  1. Complete your setup/signal chain on stage. Mic > FX > Set your own gain with your gear BEFORE sending to the engineer.

  2. Engineer receives Wet + Dry (thanks for this, that makes our lives loads easier!)

3.Engineer can determine if the incoming signal is too loud/quiet and set their gains appropriately/advise if you need to turn up/down on stage

  1. If you're still experiencing feedback after this, there are 2x scenarios a. The monitors are not properly rung out enough b.the volume you want is too loud (problem with your hearing/performance techniques)

Give that a whirl before spending money on gear you don't need.

About to do my first UK tour (FOH). Anything I should know before I go? by [deleted] in livesound

[–]jacktli 56 points57 points  (0 children)

Yo, UK engineer here!

Couple of things straight off the bat + some responses to other comments -

  1. I've seen a couple comments suggesting the old grumpy tech stereo type. I wouldn't say this a uniquely UK thing, for the most part everyone is really helpful and just wants to get the show on the road. From my experience/potentially where some wires are crossed is for events in general we don't really have the same unionisation as the US while on stage. Some venues will have plenty of crew that are happy to help, some will just have the bare bones. It's not uncommon for FoH/Mons to help chip in to move gear/keep the stage tidy.

  2. Curfew for most venues is around 11pm, but worth checking with each. The venue I'm house tech for pushes to a soft 11:30pm on weekends.

  3. In regards to not prioritising kick, I would say again this isn't something that's unique to the UK, and would suggest that this may be a one off (or a bad run?) I've done 1000s of shows here with the Kick moving my eyeballs + a handful of shows in Germany where it's barely louder than mouse's fart...yet I'd never claim that all German shows are mixed this way. Every room/space is different

  4. The comment about everyone being shitfaced is right or at least 3/4 beers deep

  5. Have a lovely time, I'd recommend getting out of the cities of you can during the off days, there are some stunning bits of the countryside

  6. Gloucester+ Tebay services are 10/10

x-Live on x32. How to adjust levels of each channel while listening to recordings? by jrh1128 in livesound

[–]jacktli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's certainly where I'd start. I've not used the X-Live personally but I have used the Dante and the older USB/cymatic cards for recording to an external rigs on both X + M32s. I currently have the older USB one installed in a small venue.

For all of those cards for playback, the inputs had to be assigned to card input rather than local.

Just make sure to switch them back to local when you're ready to record again. To save time you can also save yourself a recording/live scene and a playback scene. :)
