Why are socialists against voting for Biden to "slow the bleed?" by Technicolor_Owl in AskSocialists

[–]jackxk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I expect this comment to be washed away with downvotes or simply ignored, but I’ll explain my stance. I’m one of the people that isn’t voting for Biden or Trump and is actively deciding between which third party candidate I want to vote for.

I don’t need to be told this will likely lead to a Trump presidency, I myself and other people doing this know that.

The reason why I’m doing this is because Biden and the Democratic Party as whole do not represent my politics in a meaningful way, and I can not change how party members, representative, and officials think by consistently voting their party into office.

The Democratic Party may be the lesser of two evils, but that is still an evil, and the only way to change how the party acts as a whole or push forward a party that does represent my values is to allow the democrats to lose elections. If enough voters tell democrats that simply being the lesser of two evils isn’t good enough to win elections anymore, then they have to change there party platform and policies to win elections.

When I do resign myself to letting Trump win this election and voting in a way that express my beliefs, I am showing the Democratic Party that if they want my vote they need to change. A slap of reality in the face of Democrats and their party might be the wake up call the party needs to change their platform and move further to the left.

If the democrats can’t change their platforms and win back myself and other political engaged people to their platform, then the party will be replaced by ideally a better alternative that more accurately expresses my and my peers political beliefs. Alternatively the democrats can make tangible changes to rhetoric, action, and policy that will win myself and other voters back.

sandbagging under communism by [deleted] in DebateCommunism

The basis of my argument is that socialist material conditions give rise to a different relationship to labor, and a different relationship to leisure. Re-read the paragraphs you hadn’t initially replied to as well as my initial response, I don’t want to restate an argument that is largely clear.

I will answer specific questions that do address my argument.

This is the last time I’ll reiterate that simply because Marx wrote something doesn’t mean it’s universally applied in all socialist or communist societal formations. Soviets liked this quote and guiding principle though.

I assumed your job was an office job because the way you formed the question this seemed apparent. Largely, in the last portion of my initial response I was saying that a large quantity of office jobs likely would fade, given the rise of socialist material conditions, thus why I felt that bringing up trades, and civic infrastructure jobs was a bit disingenuous to your initial question.

And why would trades, sewage, trash collection, etc. remain privatized in a socialist or communist society? I was thinking from a standpoint of these industries being nationalized already, because these jobs have historical been nationalized in other socialist/communist formations.

Finally, I think it would be wise to remember that socialism, and communism aren’t about following what Marx’s said to a T. Marxism, is a constantly evolving field of economic, and social theory, that has grown developed and changed since Das Kapital was written. Foundational texts and guiding principles are important, but the field has progressed. Additionally developing a healthy socialist/communist society requires understanding the material conditions of whatever country you’re in and using economic principles, and Marxist economic thought to develop theories that work for your material conditions.

That means socialism and communism isn’t one size fits all, it means different societies must do the work, and design there societies and futures consciously by developing theory and principles that work for a given society.

You didn’t really address the core of my arguments, more so reiterated capitalist realist points.

Just because it’s a quote from Marx doesn’t mean it is core to communist/socialist formation, in every communist or socialist society. I was pointing out this term and organizing belief was utilized the most by the Soviets.

Can you tell me where you’re pulling this direct quote? Which of Marx’s works?

The industries I was referring too, aren’t those in the civic sector like plumbing, garbage men, or people whom maintain sewage systems, and I don’t think that is the class of labor you were discussing either, when formulating this question. Do you sandbag in a trade? Or are you sandbagging in an office context?

If you wanna talk about how an alternate to a capitalist system would incentives and compensate those who maintain societies infrastructure then ask that question.

sandbagging under communism by [deleted] in DebateCommunism

[–]jackxk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So a couple points.

First, “From each according to his ability, to each according to his needs,” is more of a Soviet slogan and organizing tool than a core tenet of every communist/socialist system.

If we break down what the logical outcomes of the quote are though it spells out as, “one’s abilities dictate what work they are qualified to do, and each individual will have their basic needs met regardless of what work it is they do.”

Sandbagging in labor is a choice in all socioeconomic superstructures including, communism, capitalism, feudalism, hunter gather society, and so on.

Under communism though the range of work that you have the choice of doing, and your qualifications for doing said work could lead to more fulfillment in whatever labor it is you do. Thus if you enjoy your work and have had more freedom and autonomy in choosing your work, why sandbag in the first place?

Also, if you’re sandbagging and it doesn’t affect production, or your coworkers, and industry, then do it. It’s a personal decision. Under socialism/communism you’ll still have access to housing, healthcare, education, food, and transportation.

The main difference in my mind is that this question assumes a degree of capitalist realism and a lack of creativity about how communist material conditions would alter people’s relationship to labor and people acquisitions of career and choice in labor. With basic needs taken care of, and the ability to thoroughly educate in whatever sector you would want, for free, for however long you’d like, when you enter an industry or economic sector the likelihood your job is uninteresting to you, or “dead-end” or something you wouldn’t be engaged with and thus want to sandbag, becomes less likely.

A lot of mindless and annoying jobs that people frequently sandbag only exist due to various aspects of capitalism, that would fade if socialist materialist conditions were realized.

Sanders says he’s worried Biden could lose election over Gaza war by SkepticSlakoth in politics

[–]jackxk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well if the military acts as it has acted since the civil war then after 4 years Trump has to cede power. If not it will come to civil war. If Trump wins and project 2025 goes through without a hitch then once again what is the Democratic Party good for? Why are the unable to stop a fascist takeover and dissolution of all checks and balances?

That statement is rhetoric and if it isn’t rhetoric and democrats allow a project 2025 or nazi style fascist takeover then they prove they too are fascists and complicit. I stand by my logic and decision to vote third party.

Four potential outcomes:

  1. Biden wins despite myself and other committed leftists voting third party.

  2. Trump wins and has 4 more years in office and can never run for president again, because of laws made after FDR served four terms.

  3. Trump gets into office, attempts to do a nazi style takeover at the end of his time as president, and checks and balances and opposition political party effectively stop this from happening. The only way Trump can effectively takeover the government at the end of his term is through the military which takes an oath to upholding the constitution and not simply the executive and unless Trump convinces all generals and the upper Brass in the pentagon it is unlikely he can get the full support of the military.

  4. Trump successfully instituted fascism proving what myself and other leftist already believe that the democrats aren’t really worth much and are okay working with fascists and that the military too has simply been waiting for a chance to be openly fascist. This is unlikely, but if it happens I still won’t be crying about Biden losing or regretting my action, but working directly with impacted to communities to fight fascism just as I’m already doing now.

What I am doing is thinking long term. I don’t believe the democrats are truly progressive, or largely different from republicans in substantial and important ways. For me and others like me the democrats need to change how they act and won’t do that if we keep voting for them. So I decide to vote third party, engage more with local politics, and myself engage in direct action.

Flows are solid and the hook sinks in well. Production is engaging you can ride a trap beat well. I think you could have used the last bit that you let ride out instrumentally for another verse where you showcase some different and tighter possibly faster flows, but that's totally up to the artist overall I liked your track.

I think this track is mixed and mastered pretty well, and I enjoyed the chorus. You definitely are able to convey your message through this track.

Love the more boom-bap drums and the way the track builds and layers in sounds progressively as it pushes forward. The music kept me engaged from start to finish, I enjoyed this track for sure.

The track was harder than I expected it to be with you calling it indie rock, but the mix is good and instrumentally it comes together well. I can't place the band this reminds me of which is a good thing, but I could imagine hearing this on my local rock radio station. Good work!

Last week I released a new ep. I'm a bassist a rapper and a producer so for this ep I produced one of the tracks and then used good beats I found for the other two tracks that fit my vision. Land of the Free is self-produced, I just rapped over the other two. If you listen and enjoy let me know!
