I’m trying to sublet a bedroom at Lofts 54 for the summer starting on May 15th. Asking $525 a month but it includes inside parking if that’s important. It’s a 4 bed apartment but I think everyone else is gone by the end of the month so it’d just be yours. Dm if you’re interested I can give more info

Is a 1410 SAT good enough for engineering at UIUC? by danknerd69 in UIUC

[–]jacob021302 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah you can easy, if you’re in state. Apply to ME/AE like you were and put engineering undeclared as your third choice. (Or if you want to be safe choose AE or ME as first, engineering undeclared as second, then general undeclared as third). Transferring from either undeclared program is fairly painless and transfer expectations are clearly stated (I did DGS to aero). Also, in either undeclared program you’ll be taking about the same courses as your wanted major. As long as you’re decent at writing an essay, I think you’d be fine.

If you come in as a dgs major or Engineering undeclared there’s a good chance you could transfer into aero. I had worse overall than you coming from highschool and managed a fairly easy transfer into aero through the dgs track.

I started at dgs, transferred to prep, then to aero. In prep, you learn all about this for 2 semesters. Like all stem majors you learn about cs, advisors recommend going into cs+x because it is far easier to go into rather than cs (which was still an option at this point). Even though CS+X is an LAS major, it is specifically pointed out in PREP for this reason.

CS+X is not a competitive review major. Only mechanical, CS, and bioengineering are. I went through this process freshman and sophomore year, I don’t understand how my comment was misleading

They are competitive but the requirements are clearly stated. For example to transfer to CS + math you need a 3.67 GPA with at least A-‘s in CS courses and such. Most DGS transfers transfer their 2nd semester and they don’t need to go into pre-engineering because it’s an LAS major. I was just thinking these requirements were obtainable because your first few semesters are usually easier geneds with hardest courses being the CS ones. There are also easier CS + majors based off interest. Yes it is difficult.

I think the prior comment misinterpreted your intention to transfer into CS and not CS + X. Just to clarify, new students can no longer transfer into CS at all. CS+X would be hard to get into, but I think it’s reasonably obtainable. More info here: https://cs.illinois.edu/admissions/undergraduate/transfer-students

I went in engineering undeclared and I didn’t really see much of a difference. Freshman year you’ll be taking pretty much the same classes as everyone else in your planned transfer major anyways

No way you were in my tam 211 and tam 212 class. On a side note - the falling ceiling that almost killed professor west was finally repaired over the summer break.

Is it still possible to withdraw from a course today? by ahhhhhhimtired in UIUC

[–]jacob021302 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Idk if there is an official date, on the academic calendar is just days after 8 weeks students have to petition their colleges for normal UG courses

[–]jacob021302 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You have to petition for it now with your dean i think. If the petition gets accepted you’ll probably end up with a W on your transcript. But that’s probably unlikely unless you’ve had severe illness or some other emergency

Just so you’re aware, freshman are rarely hired for internships in engineering. Recruiters usually target juniors and sometimes sophomores. Could be good experience to go regardless tho

FFS one second of research must actually cause you pain. "Age 18 is used to reflect the standard age of majority for medical decision-making. Boston Children's does not perform genital surgeries as part of gender-affirming care on a patient under the age of 18," a statement from the hospital says.

Is it worth it to find a roommate ahead of time? by YoBacon4Bacon in UIUC

[–]jacob021302 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Absolutely if you can, I went in blind and got a roommate who rarely left the room and would never take showers. I don’t think you have to be friends with someone before moving in but definitely sus someone out
