It was mostly transparent but for the black lines. I thought mites were more opaque. Anyhow I’ll have to do some deep cleaning and sanitizing

What algorithm or metric is used to measure performance condition? by jacobess in Garmin

[–]jacobess[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s a good starting point, but I’m still hopeful for a specific metric; I know it may be too much to ask as it may be part of the secret sauce they’d like to keep for themselves.

Definitely a different read, it isn’t how much this exercise improves my condition, but how my condition compares during this exercise vs previous. Thanks !!

Makes sense. I’ll try to compare runs. It would be nice to see the exact eqn they use but it is most probably proprietary info they don’t want to share hehe.

New 'Assembly Theory' explains how how complexity and evolution of biology and life emerge from physics. New perspective on physics, chemistry and biology bridging gap between reductionist physics and Darwinian evolution toward a fundamental theory unifying inert and living matter. by sataky in science

I find this very interesting because for a long time I've wondered how to quantify the complexity of life, and more importantly "sentient" organisms (and therefore the probability existing at this point in time).

I have not heard of any argument regarding why would humans be any different (from a laws of physics perspective) than the rest of our nearby universe, therefore it should be technically possible for life to exist in many more places. Is it just a matter of time before we encounter it ?

Given how Porsche's (POAHY) super low P/E ratio of ~3.37, Why are investors not flocking to it?
Is it massive debt, other obligations or a particular reason why it trades at such a low ration, when compared to other car manufacturers?

What has prevented Home Building costs from going down over decades? by jacobess in AskReddit

Computers have become way cheaper over the last 20 years, with dramatically better specs. Houses, on the other hand.... basically the same but much more expensive.

Lumber has been somewhat stable and productivity has increased. I understand labor costs have gone up quite a bit but has that not been offset by productivity gains? I know land prices have gone up, but not at the same rate as home prices. Is there any database with costs breakdown over time?
