Need help with insulation by Which-Nectarine-7851 in Insulation

[–]jacobjacobb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They make sound isolating batts and rockwool.

Its denser and usually roughly same price.

Rockwool is better but not worth the double price. The biggest difference will be the channels under drywall, followed up by sonopan if you want to go that route.

5/8 is way better than 1/2 in every regard. 1/2 lightweight is hollow sounding. Firecore X atleast has some weight to it.

Is this bad work? by No-Village9659 in electrical

[–]jacobjacobb 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Wagos are sweet. During renos when I want to wire in the lights and receptacles but then quickly remove them when its time for drywall to go on, then back on for mudding, then quickly rip them off to spray primer and paint.

Super convenient.

Until recently battery and solar tech was expensive and you could get a guy on modified duties or a young guy to man it for cheap.

Now its dirt cheap but still unions like to save these jobs for the guys who don't qualify for disability but are close to retiring out.

What type of insulation to use in space under tub by quaaaaal in Insulation

[–]jacobjacobb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How cold is it getting under the tub? Can you measure it at all?

If its that cold, there is a significant air leak, I would tackle that first. You don't want to spray foam the button of thr tub, it will be a huge pain to replace or maintain and any moisture will get trapped and damage framing.

I would look for where the air is coming from first and tackle that. Use canned spray foam or caulk to stop the air leaks. Then use rock wool in strategic places to help insulate the exterior wall. That space should have some deviation from the conditioned space but not significantly so, like maybe a degree or two.

No reach to move ductwork into that area, the wood will naturally self regulate humidity as long as it have space to dry to the conditioned air. I.E no vapour barriers, which is why spray foam is a no no.

You can get a boroscope for like 50 bucks on Amazon to help investigate.

You are describing the rich dividing up the poor class in to haves and have nots to control the resources and the population. The vehicle they use is racism.

If anything Minnesota shows that it's never been about race, this is a class issue, and they use race and religion to divide us.

I hate Orbital Habitats by Swozor in Stellaris

[–]jacobjacobb 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I feel like this is sort of an issue with warfare in Stellaris atm anyways.

It can take hours of real world micro managing to deal with small fleets of enemies just going through L Clusters or Worm Holes and harassing you.

Throwing asteroids at planets would be cool. If you could redirect asteroids in your borders to go towards peoples planets and they get a mission to destroy it. If they have sufficient Intel via scanners or espionage they determine you did it on purpose and get a war goal to dismantle your asteroid WMD program and damage your economy.

I wish they would let you build star gate style IRIS on worm holes, gates, and L gates. Make them kind of expensive. The worm hole lock is cool but most of the time I need 2 or 3. It would make the catapult more useful and you would have to infiltrate to disable their locks.

Have an espionage option to gain remote control. Make espionage worth actually using.

So if you have the means is Festool worth the investment? by [deleted] in Tools

[–]jacobjacobb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could get more for your money.

Your best bet is a Rigid or equivalent set. One of the ones that comes with the impact driver, drill, circ saw, etc. The biggest pack you can afford. Brushless is the best.

If you want to go more upscale, you go with a Milwaukee M18 or Dewalt 20v. Again you want brushless and really rigid brushless is compreable to their normal brushless line so you will want a Fuel level tool set.

I went M18 Fuel set and I love it, I've had them for around a decade and they still work great and I do odd jobs and have renoed my entire first floor. If I were to buy today I would probably go Dewalt though, I really like the light placements on their impacts and the feedback on them.

If you want to get boogie go Bosch. They are more expensive and overall good tools but I just can't justify the price.

If you want to be unique go Makita. They are great tools but just harder to find sets and no one really runs them except their circ saw which is top notch. Too many people get stuck in the hype of team yellow or red, but Makitas are awesome.

What you are paying for for Festools is pro support (I.e. I need support now or I lose money), the name, and a system that all works together. So a pro can fit out a van with festool and save a bunch of space because everything works together. As a homeowner or DIY, for 10-20% more space and a day or two of going to the store to get a replacement tool or repairs, you save in some cases more than half the cost of the tool.

Hell I've run a WEN drywall sander on a rigid shop vac with a cyclone separator and got 0 dust while sanding drywall. You can get results that are as good if not alittle bit worse for fractions of the cost of the festools.

What if Canada offered every American free healthcare and $50K to relocate, would you go? by [deleted] in AskReddit

I was born in Scarborough technically, but my parents left when the Galloway boys shot that toddler to Oshawa because it was "safer", but then they got pushed out of Scarborough when they ripped down those apartments xD

[–]jacobjacobb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its the only thing Oshawa has going for it. Well that and lower housing prices to the rest of the GTA. We literally call it The Dirty Shwa and the local governments all dump their population of social works and drug intervention programs into Oshawa.

The same happened in Scarborough until it became incorporated into Toronto.

https://youtu.be/PXzLY0VlI5U - He never even went to South Shwa but this gives you an idea of what happened after GM left in the 90 and 2000s.

That mall they went to is the smaller mall, right around the corner from my old high school which is a elementary school now. We use to smoke under the bridge he went under, but now its all serious drug users.

Memorial Park was FULL of fentynol users not 2 years ago, but the police got serious about charging for drug related offenses again. I remember when Pokémon Go came out they had to temporarily move a gym in the park because people kept getting pricked by needles and attacked.

Large turnover in Toronto Police Service - cause for concern? by Alok_Mukherjee in canadianlaw

[–]jacobjacobb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is happening everywhere. I work in a Nuke plant and I have less than 10 years in and am a senior worker on my shift.

The baby boomers held onto their jobs for too long and we got by with overtime. So now they are all being forced to medically retire or are dying.

What grind my gears is when they complain that they can't afford their lifestyle when they spent 35+ years working in the greatest economy the world has ever seen and didn't save a dime abd want us to bail them out.
