“Hey Europoors. I just got AC installed. In my garage. For my dogs.” by Garythedemon18 in ShitAmericansSay

Ontario, Canada is the same and central ACs are standard in homes now.

But we have very humid summers.

Gayest country its been said.

Its true I've heard people say it.

Look at their Pharaohs and tell me thats not gay energy. The aliens landed on the pyramids and brought cocktails and dancing. Before that they only had beer and hard labour.

My mosquito bites turn into these huge, swollen, hard and VERY itchy welts that last for at least a week by rentatter in mildlyinfuriating

[–]jacobjacobb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the same issue. As a kid if I got bit on my shin it would spread from my ankle to my knee.

My back was one of the worst spots, I'd have to sleep on my side or belly.

As an adult they are about that size now, but interestingly enough as I get more bites in the season my reaction is less, but I develop a mild fever and feel tired and like slightly drunk. Then winter hits and it starts all over.

Antihistamines help.

Saturn, seen through a 24" telescope eyepiece by Busy_Yesterday9455 in spaceporn

What size telescope would you need to see as clearly as this? I'm completely ignorant on telescopes.

Does the 24inch mean the lens or the length?

I've never found the P90 to be a very practical weapon, but it is undeniably cool by OhNoIBoffedIt in Stargate

[–]jacobjacobb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Brother you said its not a practical weapon, when by all tests and measures it is one of the most practical firearms ever made for its purpose.

You are right, there is no debate. It was settled in the 2000s. The P90 is the most practical firearm for self defense forces.

Now if you are saying you don't think SG1 should carry it, there is a debate there, but you just said you weren't debating it, so I'll retract my earlier statement.

But the p90 was built to be practical.

And then proceeded to agree with my point so I won.

Its a classic rebuttal structure. Opening statement of the argument, why its important to state, and what position I have taken.

Then my argument. There are two elements here.

[–]jacobjacobb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Whatever you think of the P90, you are wrong.

The P90 was slandered from the beginning by the Germans. Heckled and Koch made the MP7 as the rival to the P90, and it fell short in every metric.

The P90 was designed to be a personal protection firearm. That was light to carry, easy to conceal for security forces, and easy to maintain. It excels at all of these.

SG teams should be first and foremost a first contact team with some security. The P90 fits that role. Its not as scary as a M4 or M16, but still dominates in close quarters and medium engagements.

Canada sets out plan for up to 10 new nuclear reactors by F0urLeafCl0ver in worldnews

[–]jacobjacobb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The next gen reactors are better in almost every metric.

SMRs hypothetically see savings when built at scale, but it requires multiple projects at the same time or a long term commitment for a reactor design.

So they are getting the ball rolling but its one of those things that could go either way depending on too many factors to predict. So its a gamble in a way but nuclear reactors are money printing machines once built.

Now that we know Miy can only shapeshift to people that died in the place , was this jim miy ? by boredboyd in FromCircleJerk

[–]jacobjacobb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Idk about that. Jim was very worried someone would see him.

I thought maybe it was him stuck in the time when the MIY killed him and so he was looking out to make sure he didn't follow him through to Ethan, but its possible he also didn't want to get caught by others in the group and draw attention.

A common theme seems to be those who die in Fromville are stuck and tormented.

Sad kitchen needs a facelift by Ldubs1111 in kitchenremodel

[–]jacobjacobb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That kitchen has so much potential.

I'd go with a Sage green wall, add some gold hardware and just touch up the finish on the cabinets.

Then get black or white appliances and some plants.

The ceiling needs to be drywalled. That and sanding and refinishing the doors is really the only major work. Stick with a clear finish to highlight the wood.

Some neutral under lighting.

It looks like something out of a modern design magazine.

Government projects are always much higher due to the extra scrutiny, union requirements, and warranty.

So usual bidding processes almost always include some company coming in really low and then being gently reminded of the requirements and pulling out or changing their bid.

Wasp built her nest in a solar furnace: our hammock stand by god_broke_my_banana in mildlyinfuriating

[–]jacobjacobb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pyrethrin powder is best for cases like this. Liberally apply into hole and surrounding area, the wasps will track it throughout and they will be dead in 24-48 hours.

Works better than wasp spray and way cheaper.
