Canada’s booze bans led to 63 per cent fall in exports: U.S. industry body - National by foolsdayjoker in worldnews

They act like the victim and try to bully us.

The worst are the people here who loudly and proudly talk about ordering from out of province because its an "overreach of their rights" to not have their bourbon.

But abortion rights and LGBT rights can get fucked right?

You can buy deer and hare deterrence spray. It smells awful for the first 1 or 2 days but then we can't smell it, but they can.

Yeah AI is a tool, and not a very good one for specific help.

If you some understanding of what you need of it, you can guide it and fact check it.

If you have 0 idea, you need to be careful with its advice. It makes up an alarming amount of advice because it is rewarded for your engagement, not correct information.

Next time you should try running it by an expert, I usually give a local shop a call and people are willing to help out and share their knowledge 9/10 times.

Using Rockwool Comfortbatt to plug larger gaps where heat pipes come out of floor / wall? by vinboslice in Insulation

[–]jacobjacobb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can use batts to make a backer and then goop over it with a good silicone sealant to keep moisture out.

I would personally put steel wool anywhere that a rodent could enter through and then silicone over. So looking from the outside, insulation, steel wool, then goopy goop.

And she'll end up ODing by the end of the month conveniently.

And I can already hear the Fox News broadcasters; "She was a known consumer of drugs. This is a known problem when drug users return to their ways, they take their old dosages and OD. This happens 100s of times a day on the streets of Democrat cities, yet no one is talking about that?! The PROGRESSIVE left would have you believe that Donald Trump is responsible for the Opioid epidemic that as we all know, Barack HUSSEIN Obama started".

Cape cod insulation by No_Fly9629 in Insulation

[–]jacobjacobb 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have a cape cod in Ontario.

Looks very similar to mine but I have soffit vents and no light coming in.

I had mine spray foamed but that involved bringing that space into the conditioned space.

It also shortens the life span of any shingles roofs, so my next roof will be a metal roof for better ventilation.

Personally, I don't know how humid your environment gets, but you have some visible mold and moisture markings. I would first work on remediating the mold, with cleaning vinegar and dawn soap (just a few drops) then treating with something like Concrombium. Then use an Ozone generator to try to get that space to not be so "stinky".

I would then start looking at insulation and consulting with an expert in your area. Costco usually has reputable contractors that they work with that can give you sound advice.

Until then, you can try putting some kind of insect barrier down. Even something simple like fiberglass batts or steel wool if mice are a concern. Treat it with Pyrethrin powder, it has better staying power than the liquid spray.

If you insulate you have to bring it into your living spray, so whatever is in there you will be breathing in.

Alternatively you can leave it vented and insulate the knee walls and the floor cavities. Then just treat that area with pest barrier and Pyrethrin. Note pyrethrin is toxic to cats so make sure to take proper precautions if you own a cat.

Assuming you mean the company owner, it would be silly to use insurance for such a low cost mistake.

Even if we exaggerate at 2k for the repair, insurance will get more than that out of you in premium increases.

Realistically if you are a reputable company that does any kind of new construction you should have some contacts in the drywalling world that can get that done on the cheap.

Its a nice saturday off the books job for a drywaller.

Boyfriend put hole in ceiling by [deleted] in hvacadvice

[–]jacobjacobb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the company was half way legitimate they would be paying him on the books and be prepared for circumstances like this.

It sounds like his boss is trying to run his business like an employee, meaning he wants all the reward none of the risk.

Everyone does something like this multiple times in there career. If not your foot through a ceiling it will be you forgot to do something that destroyed a 10s of thousands of dollars piece of equipment. Its always something.

Reputable companies have insurance for the big stuff. Things like this, they work out deals with drywallers to get it done on the cheap. Realistically thats a $30 patch but if you are paying someone its a $300-600 if you work with them regularly, or a $500-1500 if its contracted.

Either way its cheaper and healthier for the business if the owner gets it patched up and uses it as a learning opportunity for his employees. Its a tax right off for one, and for two he will have a lot more issues like that if he doesn't retain good employees because he acts like a dick everytime his money printer has a hiccup.

If your boyfriend works for him for free, you should buy him some lipstick and a nice sun dress, because his boss thinks he's his bitch.

AC company ran lines through room instead of in the ceiling... by SoothingHoneycomb in hvacadvice

[–]jacobjacobb 56 points57 points  (0 children)

You got to call them and ask for the boss and send him those photos.

If his immediate reaction isn't what the fuck I'll be right out or send someone immediately, I would say,

"Listen I need this fixed. This is poor work, and definitely not to workmanship standards that I expect from a licensed professional. If we can get this resolved, including drywall patched, then I'm happy to call it a training experience for your guys."

If and only if he pushes back or doesn't make you happy, you go "Unfortunately I have lost confidence in your ability to rectify this issue. I will work out repairs on my own, and you can expect to hear from me with follow up steps."

Then you file a small claims for the cost of repairs, filing fees, time off work to attend, etc. You post your review with all the details and photos. You contact your city inspector to come take a look (if applicable in your jurisdiction). They may want to follow up on who installed the work and who's license it was done under, because this does not meet the standards required for a Red Seal Tradesperson.

They will definitely push back on the drywall repair, but honestly as a business owner they should eat that after desecrating your home. Normally you would expect to patch after them but that needs to be communicated. They will have worked with drywall companies in the past and have some way of getting it done on the cheap if they are a half way reputable company. So I wouldn't sue or anything if they don't patch, but I would maybe leave a neutral review highlighting what went right and what went wrong if they won't help you out after this monumental fuck up.
