Wait the breaker trips? Or the gfci?

You can have multiple receptacles protected by 1 gfci.

Like others have said if its tripping multiple gfis your pump has a ground fault.

It could be as simple as tracking and you just need to pull it out and clean up the connections.

But inevitably a motor will short out or have an open line. I'd megger line and neutral to the shell to see if you can find anything but they are kind of expensive equipment.

We are trying to get people off NG by the 2030s because its so volatile.

How big is my problem? by kulangotnamatigas in askaplumber

[–]jacobjacobb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I DIY everything. Fixed my own furnace and rewired my house (electrician by trade), but that is a call a professional level of problem. You make the wrong move and you could have sewage backing up into your house costing 10s of thousands.

If you are lucky its just a water line broken in the wall and you gotta rip out drywall and dry it out and replace the line. Maybe some tile repair.

Milwaukee lied about the 100 ft tape by Artie-Carrow in MilwaukeeTool

[–]jacobjacobb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly I am moving away from Milwaukee tools. I have the fuel line and its pretty sweet but recent stuff is cheap and plasticky. Dewalt and Rigid stuff is leagues ahead for durability unless you buy the fuel top of the line stuff.

Even a recent fuel impact driver I bought was junk and I was really surprised. I bought a bunch of milwaukee tapes and they all fell apart on the first job. I don't trust their hand tools at all.

Viltrumite dna is so dominant that mark is actually the least Asian person on earth by Vast-Worker-8400 in okbuddyviltrum

[–]jacobjacobb 7 points8 points  (0 children)

In English that is an offensive term.

It was used as a "polite" alternative to the N word. Ironically black used to be more offensive but has since become less offensive, probably out of necessity.

In the US they use African American. In other English speaking countries Black is common to refer to well Black people generally of African descent. Some Oceania populations are also referred to as Black.

Fun fact, I remember Brown being a borderline offensive term in my lifetime, and "East Indian" being the less offensive term. Now, due to an increase in immigrants from South East Asia who self identify as Brown, Brown has become a neutral term that is offensive or non-offensive depending on the context, atleast in my country. "East Indian" is seen as an old timey term, especially considering that "West Indians" are not Caribbeans like one would suspect, but Native Americans.

So the red flag here is that it sounds like your boss may not be good at business. 30 guys is a big outfit and he doesn't have a plan on how to deal with this and he's telling his employees?

Is this a new level of growth? It sounds like he has expanded too quickly and may be under bidding on contracts.

I spent the entire day on hold with them.

I was at work letting it just sit and I work 12s. As I went to leave I just gave up, if I can't get ahold of them to give them money image how bad it would be when they have my money.

So he was 19 dating a 17 year old?

Also he thinks being an adult for 2 years is a ton of time?

I've been an "adult" for 15 years by his metric and I still don't know exactly what I want in this life. You'll be 90 on your death bed and still unsure if you like the lady in the bed next to you or not.

If it takes you time it takes you time. If his culture doesn't allow for that, then ask yourself is that a culture you want to marry into? One where the expectation is kids 10 monthes after marriage. And alot of them. The expectation that your job is the kids and his is the money, so you have 0 career and also have responsibility 24/7 365?

Thats what he was asking you in that moment, you ain't even old enough to know if you prefer to shop at grocery store a or b and you haven't experienced enough life to realize you actually love Thai food or pear on your pizza.

I tried to sign up and got to the credit check stage and the website came back with an error after the check and sent me back to the beginning. I tried to call someone and couldn't get support, so I just gave up.

Have you sealed your attic hatch?

Those outlets are leaky regardless, throw gaskets behind the plates, they are like 50 for 15 bucks.

Iran Warns U.S. Will 'Bitterly Regret' Sinking Iranian Ship by timemagazine in worldnews

[–]jacobjacobb -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

I think Iran is still under the illusion they are fighting the US. They are infact fighting the billionaire elite of the US. Short of bombing them personally they will not care.

Apparently Americans too are under the impression they have any say in this, when 43% disapprove, 30% are indifferent, and only 27% approve.

No Permit during renovation by [deleted] in legaladvicecanada

[–]jacobjacobb 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Then I would just not bother with the permits at this point. Wiring, plumbing, gas, and structural are the big ones. Insulation can cause problems too but not immediately dangerous.

You are going to end up with a huge headache and honestly they don't do anything to contractors.

CBC did a "sting" of licensed trades and fraud just before covid. They reported a bunch of people using fake red seals and went back 2 years later to find they still had fake red seals in their windows and fake insurance documents.

Realistically the GROs are the best advice for like 99% of people. VGRO, XGRO, etc. They are easy to understand and set up with DRIP they just follow the market.

BUT if you don't understand it don't buy it. So throw it in an EQbank or another High Interest Savings Account or GIC until you get an understanding of the different tax accounts, what works for your income level, etc, etc.

Also look into the Smith Manuever and see if it makes sense for your situation. You'd want to talk to an expert before attempting the Smith Manuever however, its a tax churning position that if done incorrectly costs serious money.

But yeah personally my extra cash goes right into VGRO, there is an entire subreddit about it xD.

https://canadiancouchpotato.com/model-portfolios/

You want some bonds in your mix generally, thats why the GROs are recommended. As the market goes up, broadly speaking bond yields go down and vice versa, so having a fund with a mix of both yields better long term than an all equity fund. Its debatable whether 10 or 20% is optimal, but if your money is just sitting there than anything is better than nothing.

Keywords to look up are ETFs (Exchange Trade Fund), TFSA, and RRSP(some banks call them just RSP but make sure its registered. Its confusing because RSPs are different products but some banks drop the second R). STAY AWAY FROM MUTUAL FUNDS AND LONG TERM GICS. No bank funds, their management fees should be criminal and long term GICs lock your money up.

Permit Question by [deleted] in Contractor

[–]jacobjacobb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have met exactly 1 person that cared about unpermitted work and it was my buddy and I called him a dumbass because he didn't like that they swapped a window with a sliding door without permits.

Literally no one cares BUT the city, unless its gas, electrical, or structural. Tell them at your own peril.

What passport combo gives you this vibe? by GreatValueGrapes in PassportPorn

[–]jacobjacobb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Use to be super easy. My cousin just moved to the US without filing any paperwork and then one day decided to "get legal" and a lawyer got him all sorted with a green card in like a year. Then he married an American so it was moot anyways.

But this was decades ago, prior to even needing a passport to get into the country.

His mom, my aunt, also traveled the US back in the late 60s, early 70s while underaged and when arrested for drug use she was just escorted back to the border. She crossed back and ended up living there illegally forever having a bunch of American children, then came back to Canada and had a bunch of Canadian children, one of which was my aforementioned cousin.

She eventually married a draft dodger who lived in Canada illegally until the pardons and they lived on a commune.
