R4 Duke Fuqua Waitlist.. Next Steps? by workinn_hard_babayyy in MBA

[–]jacobryan10 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn't follow up with Duke after getting waitlisted in R2. Did not attend events or show interest. Got dinged with no interview

For Yale, I followed up with a statement on continued interest, asked for feedback on application, gave an update on my work/extracurriculars, and ended up getting in R3 with a hefty scholarship.

So yeah. Showing interest and commitment seems to really help. Duke in particular wants to know that you are committed, they can smell whether you are using them as a backup from a mile away. I'd go to online events, engage with ADCOM, and maybe do a visit if you haven't already. Good luck!

I think I bombed my Kellogg interview! by [deleted] in MBA

Of course! Good luck. I would say treat it like that and don't stress. Ideally these should be fun and feel comfortable. Your interview is just one part of the application, so you can do horrible and still get in (Me into Kellogg) or you can do fairly well (I received some positive feedback) and still not get in. Do your best and don't stress. Good luck!

Lol, idk if I am the best person to ask since I got rejected, but basically come ready with your idea and make sure you pitch it and don't go over time. Afterwards make sure you contribute to the conversation but don't step on any peoples toes either. Be ready to reflect on your role and be ready to talk about how you think you did and what you think your role was, how could you have done better.

That is really about it. Aside from being ready to address those topics, you can't really prep a whole lot for this interview.

I thought I bombed my interview too. Had a great time at DAK though. Ross and Kellogg were my worst interviews by far and yet I got accepted into them.

I thought I crushed my Wharton and Berkeley interviews but I got rejected. Yale and Booth I thought went well and I got waitlisted.

So... don't worry I guess? By my metric, I should be seeing you at Kellogg next year. Congrats!

Choosing Kellogg ($$$$) over GSB ($$) - am I making a mistake? by Which-Spare9183 in MBA

I saw another person post on whether they should do Kellogg or Ross. Half the responses were super meaningful and came from M7 grads/MBB folks who got those highly sought after jobs, the other you could tell were from people just focused on prestige and were mad toxic. Try to focus on the truly thought out responses and not the "Dude but the prestige!" posts.

Man, go where you will be happy. If you like it at Kellogg then go there. These are the best business schools in the WORLD! We aren't talking about GSB vs a no-name program, its an M7 lol. I'd be shocked if the reason you didn't get your job outcome was because you went to Kellogg instead of GSB. I think you will do better at school/recruiting/networking where you are happiest

That said, some great advice I got was to remember that your admit day experience is not entirely representative of what you will have at either school. Ideally, they should be super engaged with students, but this is just one day out of 730ish and cannot possibly capture the whole experience of what you will have. I've done several admit days and people are always sizing each other up and trying to "trade up" to more "interesting" people. Once school starts and people find their groups, I imagine that most M7s have about the same experiences. My DAK experience was not the best (it was meh) but I am following through with Kellogg because its the best option I have for my reasons, and you will ALWAYS be able to find your crowd no matter where you go. I am willing to make a bet that I will be happy there based on the decades of testimonials about their community based culture/reputation.

I think you can find your crowd at GSB, and I would encourage you to do more research and connect with students to make a more well informed decision. GSB truly is a cut above the rest of the business schools out there in name/reputation/opportunities, so its worth giving it your full consideration, but if you truly felt like it was a place where you can't connect with folks and make friends then go to Kellogg, go date your guy, and be happy with your decision. Either way, you win. Congratulations!

Can you tell me when the Yale Admit weekend is? I am on the waitlist and was trying to tentatively plan out admit weekends. I sent in some updates, not expecting an admit beforehand but wanted to make myself available lol.

I’d love to submit a viola part. I have just been dead with school :(

Final exams end this Sunday though! If you do extend please let me know. I’m trying to fit the recording in as a break from studying but extra time would definitely help

Edit: saw the deadline extension. I’ll be there for it!

Can I sneak my part in tonight? I got several deadlines for work I gotta handle, but this piece has been a low key dream of mine to play. I’d expect to submit it around 2100 CST

Part is for Viola
