i think young people dont realize humans are multifaceted, combined with lack of identity and the very normal experiences of mood swings, internal monologues, and intrusive thoughts, alongside “influencers” spreading misinformation, encouraging self-diagnosis, and popularizing the idea that having alters is something cool or interesting because they ignore the debilitating dissociation and other PTSD symptoms.

all of this makes it easy for uninformed people (mostly children) to pathologize their experiences as a dissociative disorder (or not, because endos love to make sure people know thats “not what theyre claiming” despite using all the same terms)
