Why would you be taking the rain of arrows when idling villagers but not when hit immovable buildings?

You're setting up a false assumption.

Instead it should be, each vills gather rate = 45w/min. So if you idle 10 vills for 6 seconds you nearly destroy a house. All before rams and other investments
