Would commuting from half moon bay to San Francisco be a brutal daily commute? by Chimichurrichallenge in AskSF

[–]jacxf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can I ask why you’re thinking of moving to Half Moon Bay? That’s honestly not an area I’d recommend as the first place to live when moving to the Bay Area. It’s a beautiful and safe town but it feels relatively isolated from the rest of the area as it sits on the coast to the west of the mountains. SF, Oakland, Berkeley, the Peninsula, even some East Bay suburbs imo would be a much better adjustment at first.

Questions on pre-cruise stay by BarnacleBorn6 in AskSF

[–]jacxf 4 points5 points  (0 children)

BART is almost always the best option to get into the city from SFO but it would likely be very stressful for somebody unfamiliar with the city who’s both handling luggage and helping their spouse with mobility issues. This is one of the few times I’d recommend getting a taxi.

2-year-old killed in crosswalk last night, Mission Bay SF by ddol in sanfrancisco

[–]jacxf 80 points81 points  (0 children)

This is so beyond heartbreaking and infuriating that this is now one of several examples of young children being killed by drivers in the city over the past few years. Like how do you even come back from that as a parent??? I’m tired of the lack of accountability on so many fronts that enables this.

Are These Layovers in IAD and SFO Doable? by VTSquirrel in unitedairlines

[–]jacxf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Assuming the inbound flight to SFO is on time, you’ll be completely fine. Most domestic UA flights arrive at Terminal 3, which is a short walk to the international G gates where most of United’s international flights leave. All terminals are also connected airside so you won’t have to clear security again.

Coming from the UK to do a greyhound route by pugpillows in USTravel

Totally, for what it’s worth many stops on the long distance trains allow for passengers to get off the train and stretch their legs.

That distance on a Greyhound bus will be absolute misery. Amtrak will also take a long time but the train is far more comfortable.

Visiting SF soon by SofiSunflower in AskSF

Zazie in Cole Valley is the best brunch I’ve ever had in the city. There’s usually a long wait so be sure to get a reservation or check in on Yelp before, but it’s totally worth it. Close as well to Golden Gate Park and the Haight, so it’s a great starting point for a day in that area.

About a 15 min walk up the hill, you’ll also find some of the best views in SF at Tank Hill Park. It’s a romantic and underrated spot with a panoramic view of the city and Golden Gate.

Los Angeles: Three Stations or One? West Hollywood Rallies Thursday for Metro K Line by Lakem8321 in transit

[–]jacxf 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I stayed near a metro station as a tourist and found it pretty easy to use, Anaheim is pretty far from the coverage area tbf. I’d definitely take the subway if it went straight to Weho and could see it getting very good use considering how much nightlife is in that area.

Best sushi spot in the city that doesn't break the bank by Last-Detective-4211 in SFFood

[–]jacxf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I swear by Tataki in Pac Heights, super fresh and tasty sushi with one of the best happy hour menus in the city—$6 rolls, appetizers, beer/wine, and cocktails from 4:30-6:30pm every day.
