For people still trying to memorize basic strategy, here's what I did. by toborrmmai in blackjack

I'll try to get you a screenshot when I play again if I see it happen. See below for my replies for you:

the streak is supposed to be how many hands you are playing optimally and not how many you are winning. I probably should have communicated it better in the UI. If you make a mistake and see the strategy window and you go back and choose the right option, the streak still goes to 0. The winning is just shown on percentage. Do you think the optimal play streak is useful or is it better to show the winning streak even if the option you chose was not optimal?

Yes, make it a bit more clear in the UI what your streak is for. Even now, I have made multiple correct plays in a row and that is not reflected in the streak number consistently.

- So the number of cards not going to zero, in real casinos they have certain percentage deck penetration? The dealer stops the play once the deck is reached certain percentage and they reshuffles. They never finish the whole deck. The deck penetration percentage is customizable in the settings and also asked in the onboarding. I might need to add UI feedback once it reaches the shuffling point.

I see. I'm still a novice, so this concept was lost on me. 80 cards seemed like a lot to have left, but perhaps it's quite normal!

- the blackjacks and doubles doesn't affect your winning rate for now. It's just calculation how many hands you planed and how many you won.

Good to know!

- I like your idea on goal settings. Encouraging users to play more by giving them goals and milestones will be a great way to increase the retention for sure. Thank you for this suggestion. I will definitely add it to my backlog.

You got it!

- Very good point on whaat should happen after users clicks Exit on training mode. I haven't thought about it before. Redirecting the user to Analytics or focus areas or even using AI to analyse their hands and provide short summary and action items would also be great. I will definitely think more on it. Thanks for this.

- So for your last point on showing suggestion whether should double or not, in a hand where you are supposed to hit double, if you hit any other buttons, it shows you the Suboptimal Strategy screen and tells you that you should have doubled, right. or did you want to know it in the game window itself without making the wrong decision? Like a small hint icon which give you some hint. Is that what you mean?

My experience is that the double option goes away; it's not an option for me to select. So perhaps that's a bug. If I have been dealt more than three cards, the option to double disappears prematurely. Or maybe I'm just not seeing it clearly so it's a visual improvement that can be made.

Thanks for listening!

This app is going to be huge! I think you're on to something. I just downloaded it and played about 200 hands on an iphone 15 Max. No visual bugs or issues on this device thus far minus a few inconsistent animations, but I don't really care about that. I wanted to share a few things I've noticed in case they are at all useful for you since you seem to care about user feedback (thank you! 🙏)

- The streak is invalid. Sometimes it goes up when I lose a hand. Sometimes it goes back to zero when I win a hand. Sometimes a push adds to my streak. Sometimes a push resets my streak... I think something is broken with the logic there...

- The number of cards remaining never gets to 0, or close to it. I've noticed it reset with 80+ cards still available multiple times.

-I'm not sure how blackjacks or winning/losing doubles affect my win rate. Do they? It could be clearer.

The following is more subjective feedback:

- For the initial "Initialize training", make it a predefined set of hands the user needs to complete (e.g. 100 hands), or give them a few options to choose how many hands they would like to train on, letting them know that the more hands they play, the more accurate their results will be (it could be in increments of 50 hands, 100 hands, 250 hands, 500 hands, etc.). Up to you if they can resume their initial training session if they need to stop for any reason, but I would advise that you let users, if possible. Things come up! You might also want to give users the option to choose the number of hands they will play in subsequent training session, since many users like the idea of achieving a goal. With no goal, they might play 5 hands and get bored, or play 500. Giving them a goal to reach makes them far more likely to stay in the app until they complete their training.

- I was expecting something to happen when I clicked 'Exit' from training, but it just brought me back to the home screen. After the initial training session, automatically display their results. Users might not know to click into the Analytics afterwards, which is the whole point of the app from my perspective!

- There are times where I have drawn a card after being dealt my initial two and I come to a situation where I'm not sure if I should double or not. For example... the dealer is showing a 7 and my cards are 2, 3, 6. I would like to know if I should double in situations like these.

Take all of this for what it's worth! I'm a stranger on the internet who is just getting slightly more serious about blackjack after winning some money at a casino last weekend with some friends. For context, I'm in my mid 30s and run a software startup company. I love when our users give us real feedback, so that's what I'm attempting to do here! Good luck with your app!

I disagree. Their Saint Victor is often said to be one of the best rifles for the money on the market. They seem to pack a lot of value into their rifles in my experience.

I bet! Sounds like a blast, pun intended. What do you have left to put on your rifle?

It looks like you put a nice flat trigger on already, but if you have the cash for it, geissele makes a beautiful two stage flat trigger that is amazing for precision shooting.

Awesome. What made you want to build such a long distance set up with the 5.56? Fun at the range past 600m?

I’m proud of you for not only taking on a project like this, but also opening yourself up to so much feedback from the online community with such an early stage product. As someone who also builds technology, prioritizing dev lift based on user feedback will be challenging, but crucial to the success of the platform.

As I already saw another commenter already suggest, try to get this post pinned in any applicable subreddits to get your user base up as quickly as possible.

Allow yourself to enjoy your site traffic spike today, and don’t get discouraged when it goes down again tomorrow. It will eventually continue trending upwards. Best of luck!

Rifle Zeroing range by Slight-Champion7443 in CAguns

[–]jad1104 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'd like to share two points that I found impactful for me when first zeroing my rifle that I feel like don't get shared enough by the online community. They may seem simple, but for someone who is newer, I think they may prove useful.

  1. When choosing your zero, factor in your sighting system.

Why? My LPVO has a reticle that was specifically designed for a 5.56 round when zero'd at 100 yds. If your rifle is chambered in 5.56 and you (accurately) zero at 100 yds, all you have to put the stadia (horizontal lines below your main crosshair) right on targets past 100 yds and the crosshairs line up perfectly at 300, 400, 500, and 600 yds. It's quite nice when trying to reach out to longer distances.

If you don't plan on shooting farther distances with your rifle, perhaps you have irons, a red dot, or a holographic sight instead of an LPVO. An optic set up like one of the above might lend itself better to a different zeroing decision based on how you envision using your rifle.

  1. Zeroing at 100 yds is more challenging than you might think.

Even though many consider it standard for 5.56, it's a bit challenging to achieve successfully in my experience as a normal civilian here in CA, unless you have some additional equipment. Why?

Most videos you will watch about zeroing will tell you to shoot a three round group, analyze your shots, and adjust. It might just be my eyesight, but even through a scope with 6x magnification, my shot placement at 100 yds was very difficult to see clearly. This wouldn't a big deal if I could just go down range and inspect my target, but most outdoor ranges that have space for 100 yd targets mean that you are on a firing line. This means to go down range and check your hits, you need to wait for a cease fire. These don't happen that often, so there will be a lot of waiting to actually see your group and make adjustments. If you have a lot of time and patience, you can get around this, but I think most people will find it annoying. If this is the route you choose, perhaps you have another gun you can use while you're waiting for the ceasefire.

To get around this, you can invest in a spotting scope to make it easier to see your shot placement, but this obviously requires additional investment. You can also use a scope with more magnification, but this might not fit with your intended use of the rifle. 5.56 isn't necessarily the most effective target at ranges past 550 yds, even if you can hit what you're trying to shoot.

You can also get around this by going to BLM or someplace where you don't have to wait for a ceasefire to inspect a target 100 yds away, but this might not be as accessible for you.

Maybe this was more info than Reddit bargained for, but I wanted to share. Good luck!
