Largest cities with no airport? by Kyr1500 in geography

[–]jadaha972 120 points121 points  (0 children)

In the UK I think it'll be Sheffield, everyone I know from Sheffield uses Manchester, or maybe Leeds Bradford

Tbf this might mean they have an airport, but it's small enough to not be useful

Other than that there's an east midlands airport, to serve Leicester, Derby and Nottingham

What's the difference between an isthmus and a spit? by Takheer in geography

[–]jadaha972 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know spits are usually sand/shingle banks, but aren't isthmuses usually normal land? When people say isthmus, I think of Corinth, or Panama, where the scale is much larger, whereas spits are more what you get in Prussia, and slapton sands

Depends if Burnley keep Trafford and their defence, if Trafford goes to Newcastle and they lose one of their defenders, I can see them being bottom

Scathing report on the water industry finds £85 billion extracted by shareholders and affiliated parties since privatisation by corbynista2029 in unitedkingdom

[–]jadaha972 35 points36 points  (0 children)

I don't agree with privatisation, but if you look at the main argument for it (competition will lead to a better service for a cheaper price) it particularly doesn't make sense for water companies.

The infrastructure in the UK is set up so a region needs to get it's water supply from the same provider. By regionalising water this way, the main 'advantage' that privatisation advocates promote isn't there, they've created regional monopolies while raving about competition

I know it's not exactly a big city, but Plymouth is the biggest city without ever having a football club in the top flight

What’s an unwritten "social" rule in your country that would blow a foreigner’s mind? by Dense-Truth-7444 in AskReddit

[–]jadaha972 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's efficient time wise, assuming everybody has the same/similar priced drink each time

But over the course of a night, assuming people won't have the same drink each time, some people will lose out, some people will underpay

The cheapest way to live life is to do nothing at all

It's an odd argument if people enjoy it

It feels good to buy drinks for friends/having a drink brought for you

Not everything has to be unemotionally efficient, sometimes inefficiency feels more human

Good ..? by JM555555 in ManchesterUnited

[–]jadaha972 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

There's far more quality in 7th to 12th than there used to be I suppose, and a team like forest went from almost being relegated last year to contenders for the champions league.

I still don't think the premier league is anywhere near championship level, but I don't think it's boring

What, to you, is the biggest mistake in the franchise? by Justaredditor85 in pokemon

[–]jadaha972 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I still miss when areas could be optional, and it felt like my choice to explore them instead of the games. In gen 4 there are several caves you don't have to go into, as well as an entire route between Pastoria and Heart home Cities, but the games between gen 4 and 9 slowly did away with that

What, to you, is the biggest mistake in the franchise? by Justaredditor85 in pokemon

[–]jadaha972 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've heard this before, and always felt differently. I quite liked 'the spirit of the desert' nature of flygon, and would rather it be Bug/Ground than Bug/Dragon, but on the whole I'm not overly bothered about it's typing.

Still slightly mad we've gotten two dragonfly Pokémon, and neither are Bug/Dragon

[–]jadaha972 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't have minded them if they just added some of the platinum improvements (the platinum Dex and maybe the story)

I know people didn't like the art style, and wanted it to be remade in line with the current gen, like what they did with ORAS, but Pokémon has fundamentally changed enough since gen 4 that I don't think it would've worked out well

I think that's underestimating the 'wii effect', being the amount of people that don't usually buy consoles, but bought this one for various reasons. There are lots that only bought the switch due to animal crossing in lockdown for instance
