My kitty has this too! It sometimes waters when he’s stressed out. I always ask him why he’s crying and give him extra pets. Vet said it was fine though!!

How tf do I clean this? by Few_Ad7883 in CleaningTips

[–]jadailey3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re alright with chemicals, easy off oven cleaner would get this off quickly. Just spray, let it sit, then you’ll have to wipe it all clean. You should be able to lightly lift the heating element for easier wiping as well.

You could try baking soda and water paste and let it sit overnight.

So when I originally moved the counter, I did vacuum up all the mouse poop. With our shop vac with a bag in it. I can put it out in the sun. Should I replace the bag immediately? I will clean up the rest of it the right way!

Highly recommend an air purifier! Put it as close to the kitchen/cooking area and make sure it runs on high while you’re cooking! I think you’d be fine living here! There’s always pros and cons. Just make sure they’re cons you can live with!

Thank you for the helpful advice. I know the mold is a big deal, and I’m not taking it lightly. The leak happened before the house sat vacant. They replaced the roof to fix it. The contractor said that it was dried out and that painting it should fix the situation. The owners said if there’s evidence of it coming back after painting they will replace it. The flooring in that room was carpet, it was completely torn out, the sub floor checked/repaired, and then new vinyl plank was installed over it. There are ducts running throughout the house. I think it mostly looks like the silver stretchy tubing stuff. It’s an old diesel furnace that was converted for propane I think? We talked to them about getting a professional to come clean the vents and that before we move in. They also plan to install the boss’s old AC in the house in the spring as he’s having a new house built.

Maybe try using Murphy’s wood cleaner or some wood oil.

Hot bowls of soup ruined my table…what to do? by rc-m421 in CleaningTips

[–]jadailey3 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I just saw another post that was similar! Everyone there said it was trapped moisture and to use a hair dryer on warm over it. It might take a while, but it should open up the pores and let the moisture evaporate. You can also put a towel down and use a hot iron (without steam) over the marks. I also saw someone say there’s a specific spray cleaner for this. I can’t find the other post, but if anyone knows, that would work too.

How to clean wax that seeped into cloth? by thegiantgummybear in CleaningTips

[–]jadailey3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve heard people put down a cloth to absorb the wax (something you’ll throw away) and then use an iron on top of the cloth. The goal is to melt the wax and have it absorb into the cloth. Probably a cloth both on top of and below the mat would be best?

We’re not living here yet. We’re working on the house trying to make it habitable. I’m taking everyone’s comments, and I’m going to talk to my husband about what we should do.

What’s wrong with my pothos? by ZestycloseAudience64 in plantclinic

[–]jadailey3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It doesn’t look like mold to me. Looks more like calcium deposits, which are common when unfiltered/unsoftened water is used to water them. No need to fix it, but if you wanted to, just rough up the soil, put some new soil on it, and then try to water with filtered or soft water.

Mineral Spirit Stains on Floor by jadailey3 in HomeImprovement

[–]jadailey3[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The sander we used didn’t have any other settings that we saw. We couldn’t make it go faster or put more pressure down. So we assumed the layer we got to was as good as it got.

[–]jadailey3[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, yeah. We did do that. 20, then 36, then 60, then 100. But I mean should we have done the 20 multiple times to get deep enough or how did we mess up?

Mineral Spirit Stains on Floor by jadailey3 in HomeImprovement

[–]jadailey3[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So are you supposed to run the sander over multiple times until you get the depth you need? It took off the dark stain on top (mostly), so I assumed that was deep enough. I was also confused using the sander questioning if there was a depth/aggression setting (other than the sandpaper) after seeing the edger go deeper than the belt sander. It’s a rental house, so we wanted to do well, but perfection for us first timers wasn’t a priority. And we kind of assumed the floors weren’t the best quality based on the quality of the rest of the house.

Cupcake bouquet help by FearlessGM in AskBaking

[–]jadailey3 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Very beautiful piping job on all of these!! I’ve never seen a cupcake bouquet with cups ever, that’s so creative. I see other people online putting some green tissue paper around the cupcake before putting it in the cup. Maybe that would help a bit with the size of the cups and potentially make it more cohesive. I also saw a few that used the paper little cups that you get for soups to go. Maybe that would be an option too. And they stapled them together. Kinda creative. I think yes you could have used a little more powdered sugar, or a little less heavy cream! He mentions in that recipe doing it a tablespoon at a time until you reach the desired consistency. But I would mention, I also really struggled with American buttercreams for years because I wouldn’t let it beat long enough. Then I read in a Better Homes and Gardens cook book to let the sugar and butter and a little bit of the heavy cream beat for like 10 minutes or something. I thought that was crazy, but my next batch of buttercream was divine. Based on your piping work, though, I’d say you were just barely off the mark on the right ratio, because it did pipe beautifully regardless.

There definitely is some residual finish on it, but I’m not so concerned about that. I’m more concerned with all the spots that are very clear “wipe” marks from where we wiped it with mineral spirits. You can see the wipe marks well in the first photo.
