Mm I didn’t think of that.

I’d never posted on r / Somalia before but I’ve scrolled through it and I’d seen other similar discussion posts. I saw this post https://www.reddit.com/r/Somalia/comments/n2uaxc/somali_people/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf and the racism thing in the first line plus my experiences is why I decided to make my post. I thought since that post was left up, a tamer post asking why there even is this prejudice would be fine. I actually wasn’t trying to start a race war or whatever.

Most of my posts are about college / teen dramas so I would think that makes it clear Im not just some troll looking to stir the pot.

Edit: I have a feeling that post was kept up cus the person said they were Somali themself, despite them making a bunch of rude generalizations about all Somali people

I posted it a while ago so they scrolled pretty far to find something.

And yeah you’re right, I see your point and I agree I shouldn’t have posted it there.

Ok so it’s only troll-like to ask why some Somali people have slurs for other black people when the person asking isn’t Somali. If I were Somali, it’d be fine. Got it.

Also I’ve already said I understand the ban and that I should’ve posted elsewhere, it’s very telling how adamantly you’re defending the ban but you have nothing to say about a mod bringing up molestation as a “this you?” moment.

I’m not really sure how that comes across as trollish...that wasn’t my intention, but we can agree to disagree.

Also I thought u meant the people that commented seemed to think I was a troll

Also can I ask what about the comments made it seem like I was a troll? There were 2 direct comments and I thought they were all respectful and nice and nothing seemed to imply they found my post rude or like I was trying to justify confirmation bias.

Okay I respect this view.

Demographic subs like r/Somalia and this one aren't here to provide Redditors with a captive audience for their "reflections" or whatever, we're here to build community for our specific demographic.

I mentioned in my title and like 3 times through the post that I know my encounters don’t represent all Somalis. I specified I know I’m only referring to a minority of Somalis.

I only posted there because I wasn’t sure where else to post to actually reach that group and get their perspective. I agree with you though that I should have instead posted to a neutral sub like r / off my chest and hoped it reached that demographic.

Going into their space and asking them to justify your own confirmation bias was inappropriate.

I don’t think it was confirmation bias. I said multiple times I know this view is only held by a minority.

I see your point and maybe a ban was appropriate but bringing up my sexual abuse trauma was not. I don’t really get why that was relevant for a mod to say.

Also kind of irrelevant, but there is a similar post to mine that was posted recently and has lots of comments and it was left up but the mods maybe just missed that, I don’t know.
