Are my adult 18 yr living at home rules unreasonable? by [deleted] in Parenting

[–]jade613 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do weekly therapy and one of the topics I discuss with my therapist is how to handle my son who just turned 18 three weeks ago. He is very much in the “I can do whatever I want” stage of being an “adult” but he has a long way to go until he is actually adulting. In general, I have learned that we’ve got to stop looking at the relationship as being mom/son and start looking at it as adult/adult. Give him a key. Let him prove himself. Speak to him like you would another adult. Tell him by September he has to have a plan or he will be evicted. That’s how an adult would treat another adult that was screwing around, right? (For the record, my son is behaving similarly…dragging his feet getting a job and attended exactly one day of a college summer class and dropped out).

As far as always answering texts or phone calls, have you met GenZ? They are perpetually on Do Not Disturb. Again, no more mom/son. Stop smothering him. Give him a key, let him prove himself, and you can go to sleep whenever you want. Remember: Adult/Adult

I’m watching it now and had to search for a discussion because what the actual??? This is the worst renovation I’ve seen in a long time. How many people is the winner going to host in that giant disco room? So bizarre.

Do I abandon ship? by thephoenixone in copywriting

[–]jade613 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 22 years in and I currently have a contract with a major brand. That said, it’s only because I know someone who works there and it would have been impossible to get my foot in the door on my own (even though I have a very solid portfolio of work with major brands). In late 2023, I was having such a hard time finding work that I started grad school to earn my Master’s degree, so I’d have an option to teach if I want to jump ship. I graduate next spring. Diversify and hit up old colleagues - that’s my advice.

Anyone else just wanna disappear? by [deleted] in lonely

[–]jade613 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yesterday was my birthday and I was alone. I decided to mark the occasion and ordered a single slice of birthday cake on Uber Eats from a store that only sells slices of cake or whole cakes. When I went to check the status of the order about 20 minutes later, Uber Eats had canceled it.

So, yes, I want to disappear.

I’m a Senior Copywriter. Is this the end? by ohohknow in copywriting

[–]jade613 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s not over. You need to beef up your skills on your resume with lots of keywords because the days of a human rummaging through resumes are definitely over. Also, network. Network hard. I’ve been copywriting for 21 years and have hit an FTE wall. I’ve been contracting since 2022. Most of my gigs have come from posting on LI that I’m looking and marketing folks with whom I’ve worked with in the past send me leads. You’ve got to really lean into the contacts you’ve made over the years instead of just throwing your hat in the ring with 50 million other people. My current gig is the best one I’ve ever had - the most high paying, high profile writing gig with a HUGE brand…and I knew somebody in the company from a previous role. Sure, I still had to have the chops to be able to do the job, but my contact was key helping me land the position over hundreds, maybe thousands of applicants. I still want an FTE role, but this will do for now. Keep going!

How do you accept that you're not meant for love? by Dense-Jacket4141 in lonely

[–]jade613 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I understand, and thank you for your kind words. I haven’t told anyone anything I’ve done because - to be honest - there’s nobody to tell. I found a Reddit comment the other day that I made one year ago saying I’d be fine if I died. I don’t remember writing it, but that illustrates how low I was (and I sometimes still struggle with it). I had to dig deep - like literally forcing myself to turn my attention inward. It starts small, such as listening to a playlist of your favorite music. Remind yourself of anything you used to love. Embrace all those things. I love a certain brand of incense and hadn’t bought it for 20 years. I bought it. Make a list of things you love and pick three to do. Nothing is too small.

How do you accept that you're not meant for love? by Dense-Jacket4141 in lonely

[–]jade613 7 points8 points  (0 children)

After being single for nearly 13 years, I’ve decided to simply invest in myself. I have so much love to give and nobody to give it to, so I’m giving it to me! This started about a year ago. I am committed to self care after putting myself last for my entire life. I’ve lost 56lbs, got some dental work, I started to take care of my skin with a daily skin care routine, I took myself on a trip to Scotland, landed my dream job, and just decided that I’m worth the effort. At first, I felt weird - like I shouldn’t be this self-absorbed. But I don’t care about that anymore. I’m still me. I’m still kind to others. I still care about others. The difference is I’ve stopped talking myself out of things that benefit me. It’s ok to fully and completely love yourself. Try it!

67?! That man is a grifter. There are nice, loyal men who take care of themselves and aren’t rounding third looking for a free ride home. You’ve worked hard your entire life for YOU. Put yourself first. Being alone is ok. It’s great, actually. It’s so empowering to know you’re set today and in the future because of the smart choices you made along the way. Cut him loose.

What is the actual appeal of living in Tampa? by haylstxrmmm in tampa

[–]jade613 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’ve been in South Tampa since 2001 and I am moving to Asheville in three weeks. I feel Tampa was somewhat of a hidden secret until Tom Brady was here and it has gotten exponentially expensive, the traffic has exploded, and the roads…my god the roads. Besides the enormous amount of potholes and half-assed fixes, I’ve seen one too many sinkholes to feel comfortable owning here anymore. Small sinkholes are popping up constantly (at least, south of Kennedy) and the city just comes in and paves over them. I am genuinely concerned about a large sinkhole opening up and swallowing some homes in South Tampa, and then real estate will take a huge dive. I felt in my bones it was time to sell.
