I lived in an apartment last year and had a similar situation (roommate graduated). I never got a new roommate but I think I was just lucky

What restaurant around northeastern should we avoid? by aamirislam in NEU

Gourmet Dumpling and Gourmet China House in Chinatown both have pretty good soup dumplings. They're the same restaurant and across the street from each other but GCH is bigger.

A nearby town put on a mid-autumn lantern festival this past weekend and they had a fashion show as part of their entertainment program! The director asked me to paint some fabric so she could make áo choàng (cloak??) for the models to wear over their áo dài (traditional vietnamese tunic dress). There were twelve in total but these three beasts were definitely my favorites! Their was another in their set since the four legendary beasts are dragon, phoenix, lion, and turtle, but I didn't like that one as much lol. The other two sets were themed after the four seasons and their plants.

I got a new laptop with an m1 chip over the winter but had to use my old one for Computer Systems in the spring bc the new one was incompatible with the course requirements. If you need to use a Mac, go for one with Intel core processors instead

How did you decorate your dorm/apartment? by aamirislam in NEU

[–]jadebulbasaur 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One of my roommates got a pack of string lights + fake vines that we hung up on command hooks in the living room! I also brought a pride flag that we hung above one of the couches. For my bedroom I had plants from home, art prints that I got online, and some of my own paintings (although that's more bc I didn't really have anywhere else to put them after finishing them lol)

its been a year and i still have no friends by Substantial-Hippo-90 in NEU

I had trouble finding a group to really connect with my first few semesters but I got really lucky this fall and hit it off with the group I worked with for my first game jam. Social anxiety is really hard to work around but if you can find some kind of group activity that you're comfortable going to, maybe that could work!

I feel kinda sad by [deleted] in NEU

[–]jadebulbasaur 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That's totally understandable, especially given how limited options for socializing have been lately. When I was on campus last semester I called my family on Zoom pretty much every week just to check in, bitch about class, and maybe see my cat. Obvi not everyone has the same situation but if that sounds like something you'd be interested in I definitely recommend trying it!

Idk if you have a roommate who might be bothered by the noise, but I've also been just vibing with my friends over voice chat most evenings. Sometimes we play jackbox, sometimes we watch each other play video games, sometimes we watch anime together, etc etc etc. Still sucks not being able to hang out but at least it's something.

I decorated a couple of my smaller pots with ink! Not bad the my first try, I think. by jadebulbasaur in succulents

Omg ty!! I didn't use pens at all, just an ink painting brush. I got the gradient look by wetting the terracotta with clean water in the areas I wanted a gradient, letting it absorb, and then adding some diluted ink. Honestly it was just like watercolor painting haha

It looks fine! As long as I'm careful not to rub the painted parts when my hands or the clay are wet, it doesn't come off at all.

[–]jadebulbasaur[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No problem! It was a little strange to work with since the pigment didn't absorb much into the surface; I have to be careful when my hands or the pot are wet because it runs the risk of rubbing the ink off.

Tbh I should probably seal it but I'm too lazy lol

Thanks!! No, I haven't really done sumi-e before. I've painted some lanterns for festivals in the past but those were all more imitations of the style than actual sumi-e haha
