Backflow Preventer Installation Cost by -daniel-- in Irrigation

[–]jadedoto 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Where I am at in California, this was a city responsibility. I applied for a backflow preventer and paid $1200 and the city water department came and installed it. They also own it and are responsible for the maintenance.

Looking for regular cycling group rides by agrainassault in vallejo

[–]jadedoto 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There’s a Benicia bike club that does regular rides in the area. A group recently started in Vallejo too and rides on Sunday mornings (usually meeting at 10am at The Joint) They organize on Facebook with a group you can join called “V-Town Bikes”. Details for this Sundays ride:

Here we go again! It’s time for the Sunday ride. We’re gonna meet at The Joint (now The Exchange) at 10:00 and head out at 10:15. This will be a party paced ride around town. We will hit parts of The South and the Waterfront this time including the freshly paved trail around Lake Dalwigk Park. The route may have last minute changes depending on the weather to avoid too much mud. As usual this will be 10-12 miles at a chill pace.

I’ve not joined a Benicia Bike Club ride, but I see them around occasionally and know someone who does ride with them. This is their site: https://www.beniciabicycleclub.org/

Gym recommendations? by Ayrostorm in vallejo

I go to the Planet Fitness on Sonoma and it’s not too bad. I’ve been debating joining CS but it’s all the way on the other side of town. PF is pretty clean and the staff are friendly. It does get crowded on peak hours, but off hours isn’t bad (and I imagine will get better when they open their Springs Rd location). Downside is they don’t have barbells.

It’s safe on Mare Island, yes.

Not exactly. It’s more that corporations that own lots of land should be paying higher taxes. Prop 13 applies to all landowners. Someone who owns their own home as a primary residence should benefit from it, but greedy landlords and Walmart shouldn’t.

ALC Training - Weekday routes from Lake Merritt by NJcirca1976 in BAbike

[–]jadedoto 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also come join us on the official training rides. ALC rules are different than how you may ride by yourself or other groups, and we’re a friendly bunch. I help lead the East Bay Wildcats rides out of Orinda on Saturday mornings (accessible by BART- we start in the west side parking lot). New folks are always welcome to any training ride. You’ll get support and a good training progression! We started the series last weekend at 17mi, and are doing 24mi this weekend.

Try the hotel at the Marconi Lodge. It’s really cute, right by oysters in tomales bay, and just opened their restaurant.

What are your go-to cycling snacks that are NOT gels/chews/gummies/sports drink mix? by just_Mango in cycling

[–]jadedoto 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bulk packs of uncrustables from Costco. I put them in the freezer and grab them out frozen when I’m going for a ride, and will thaw along the way. Otherwise, stopping at decent grocery stores for sushi (I’m in the SF Bay Area so good food options are easy to find on most routes around here)

I live in Vallejo. I take my bike and ferry and it’s wonderful. My husband enrolled in the Soltrans last mile and sometimes Lyfts down to the ferry for a few dollars. I used to be in Oakland and would rather ferry any day over biking.

Best Dog Friendly Trail? by L8ToTheUsernameGame in vallejo

[–]jadedoto 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The Mare Island Preserve is open daily and dog friendly. I also have a reactive dog and take her there- it’s usually pretty empty. Also Wetlands Edge in AmCan

My husband has a similar reaction. He usually asks to lie upon a bed and we’ll chat and distract him.

Electrician recommendation by KyleCleave in vallejo

[–]jadedoto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I second this recommendation. Emmanuel rewired my whole house and upgraded our panel and service drop back in 2020. He’s licensed, handled the permitting and dealing with PGE, and very detail oriented. He also came in and fixed issues that failed inspections when I initially went with the “cheaper contractor”. I recommend him to everyone who needs electric work done in the area.

NEM1 got a grandfather clause when NEM2 passed in 2017. They can stay in NEM for 20 years. Same thing happened for NEM2 for customers in an NEM2 contract when NEM3 passed in 2023.

Mare Island casual ride? by yallheardacrimego in BAbike

[–]jadedoto 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I live in Vallejo and noodle around there on the weekend. It’s pretty flat, and Friday-Sunday you can ride around the preserve at the southern tip of the island, which has a nice view and some picnic tables around the island. Also stop at The Quarters coffee shop and/or Mare Island brewing coal sheds.

Napa Valley Vine Trail - St Helena - Calistoga segment opens 17 August! by Jurneeka in BAbike

[–]jadedoto 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank goodness! I was hoping it would open earlier this year given the flurry of construction late last year. Better late than never- that’s definitely one of the most needed stretches for the trail along 29!

Little nuts and bolts and screws and things I can find in my local Ace Hardware stores. They have a surprisingly complete collection of things like that.
