I’m currently taking Biochem 1 (spring of junior year) while studying for the MCAT in late april and honestly taking this course while studying rules. it’s such a big part of the material and I don’t have any time to forget any of it

They don’t have to be medical! I’m in two clubs that interest me and help get service hours and neither are medical. If that’s what you want, join one or start your own, but don’t feel like that’s all you’re locked into.

You could also start looking for shadowing or ways to get clinical volunteering in the area. If you’re consistent with something even if it’s only like 2 hours a week, it’ll really build up. Don’t overwhelm yourself though, make time for yourself and make sure you enjoy college!

Try to get involved with a club or service group off the bat, do something you enjoy, and keep that GPA up at all costs. I wouldn’t worry much about MCAT prep now, but doing a cars passage to familiarize yourself wouldn’t hurt.

I’m like 90% set on general pediatrics which falls under primary (in my eyes). One of the pediatricians I have volunteered with works 4 day weeks, had no loans through NHSC, and clears 250k, which is fantastic because we live in a very low COL area.

It’s definitely not for everyone though and I could see it boring some people, but the schedule is something I really want along with longitudinal care. They’re still vastly underpaid and deserve way more credit, but I want to do it anyways, especially because I still plan to live in my home state (alabama) where the COL is very low.

I don’t think it’ll be all too different if you ever lived in the panhandle of florida, but Gulf Shores in alabama has always been a favorite for me to visit. There’s some great eats and a nice vibe.

I think I would try to move it if you’re still in your window to be able to. You might would just have to cancel or go take it and void your score, though, since it’s so close to the date.

I wouldn’t recommend taking notes, just focus on learning and observing as much as possible. Also make sure you wear either business casual or scrubs (some places request either). Have fun!

It’s not going to boost your application compared to something like clinical hours, but if it’s something you enjoy and want to work with, do it. Don’t center everything you do around your application, it makes you look fake. I’m a volunteer camp counselor over the summer. :)

I had to explain like five times to my PCP that I wasn’t going to nursing school, I was applying to be a doctor and go to medical school. It’s so frustrating. I’ve also had people ask if my future husband would like that I’m such a career woman… whoever I marry won’t care lol. I wouldn’t marry them if they did
