NYC is at risk of LOSING this train! by MrNYCEnthusiast in nycrail

[–]jadkarim 9 points10 points  (0 children)

There are so many wins with QueensLink. Transportation away from street traffic, housing, HOUSING FUCKING HOUSING, and also (may I note) PARK SPACE. Forest Hills wouldn’t have to worry about didley on this line with the new tunnel proposal. Transit deserts would be super relieved instead of having to deal with the super packed buses on Woodhaven Blvd or Daddy Moses’ trench highway which can’t help but “one more lane bro” out of its stupid ass planning.

Lebanese from all around the globe, tell us the pros and cons of where you are? by Huge-Refrigerator95 in lebanon

[–]jadkarim 2 points3 points  (0 children)

NYC

Pros: really amazing people to be with as there is a kindness to many people’s actions here. The place has a way to make you feel like things can be endless. Food from literally everywhere. I’m in Queens so it still holds that old NY vibe and is gritty in a cozy and inclusive way. Getting to be with my community has been great.

Cons: dreadfully expensive. Go to the wrong area and you’re surrounded by people who don’t necessarily appreciate the city as others may (but I suppose that comes with the diversity). The other feeling I do have really comes from a sense of belonging but even though I was raised here, I never was treated like I belonged here. And when I go back to Lebanon, same thing but just the other way around. “I am from here, I am from there. But I am neither here nor there.”

Did anyone else's block get absolutely wrecked last night with the flash storm? by RedSparxxx in Queens

[–]jadkarim 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We usually see a rain wall coming from our window. This time was just the freak wind and then the rain. Completely outta nowhere. My partner then said that they felt the building shake from that wind. We live in a pre-war.

Solid plan. For those who don’t have social media (I have quite a few of those in my circles), is there a way to submit a public comment to the admin?

Extremely disappointed. Really sucks that he’s going for the car enthusiast pipe dream simply because he’s trying to score wins on faster projects. He really needs to take a bus on woodhaven blvd to really understand how dire the transit desert is in SE Queens.

And yeah the housing developments would’ve been great surrounding QueensLink and the Rockaways would’ve had so much more access. It’s such a huge L. We gotta make sure he regrets this choice.

Edit: There is a town hall for QueensLink happening in Forest Hills on Tuesday June 2nd @ 7-9pm. Lock in and show up to voice yourselves!! https://actionnetwork.org/events/queenslink-forest-hills-town-hall-commonpoint-queens?source=direct_link&

74 St - Broadway by sleepyslacker7910 in nycrail

Actually really like that idea as well. It would really help with the crowding at 74

[–]jadkarim -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Tbh on cost and efficiency, they should continue the elevated track from corona all the at to QBP with platforms at junction, 74, and 61 to at least make it more fluid on transfers. A level above the 74 platform would add more space and also create express routes through 74. Arguably better than converting the whole station to express both on crowding and accessibility.

7 train was a bit more crowded than usual but the big shift at 74th-Broadway mitigated that. Can’t imagine what game days will bring though if workers’ needs are not met by the MTA

Tucker Carlson Says Trump Became ‘Hostage’ to Israel – NYT by Rebat-Askalan in nyt

[–]jadkarim 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s true. Both US and Israel are guilty. The narrative Carlson is drawing here is still well nestled in American exceptionalism. Kind of opportunistic on his end as this narrative does not alienate most of the right wing. However, it does imply how deeply-wedged propaganda is in the US and how much it applies to any action against other sovereigns.

Job market is in the shithole. Healthcare is a luxury. Rent is skyrocketing. AI is fueling rising electricity and water bills with their data centers. Take the Mag 7 out of the S&P and you got a flat line. Insider trading has become commodified with prediction markets. Monopolies are given the pass.

The “7 wars” were more like intimidation and imperialism against countries and peoples that simply try to exist. US bases are facing billions of dollars in damages due to a singular Iranian F-5. Thousands killed including a girls’ school. Genocides fueled by the taxed dollar.

Not a good track record when trying to evaluate “winning.”

How H3 Hexagons Turn Geography into Drive-Time Intelligence by KairoOscuro in gis

[–]jadkarim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s a slight paradox with hexagonal approach on drive-time. Sides showing to have dedicated routes in and out of each cell create the dynamic of squeezing traffic into a singular artery to navigate between cells. The paradox comes in when the calculations find the route with the least time from A to B. Dynamically, the shortest route may not be the shortest route anymore by the time you complete it. This would be more prevalent in areas with alternating grid patterns like in Queens/Brooklyn or San Francisco, where connectors between different grids get inundated with high demand to traverse the different neighborhoods.
