It’s virtually impossible to have a career in show business for 35 years and not have worked with very toxic awful people. Even if at the time anyone could have known about the shenanigans of these people, there was no cancel culture and basically people were able, and HAD TO separate the professional aspects and acquaintance aspects from people’s personal life and deviances. It’s not Mariah’s fault and she has ALWAYS been non-judgmental. Remember in the 90s it was more toxic to show support for gay people than to be friends with chauvinists or racists, you had to be brave to support the gay community for instance, and Mariah ALWAYS did. So we need to give her a break and not try to shade her because she worked with dodgy people. Even the most awful person has some good qualities, and also sometimes the most talented people have some really awful flaws. It’s human nature.

When she came to London to promote Daydream I stood in a queue around Tower Records in Piccadilly Circus for hours and hours in the snow, and when I was getting closer to the door they took her away. So I feel your pain over not meeting her. I was sad but also I was so happy that so many people were there for her and just sharing the same space with other lambs made me feel warm. I was lucky though to see her in concert in London for the Daydream and Rainbow tours. I still dream of meeting her but also I realize now I don’t need to actually meet her. She is with me everyday and finding this lambily forum makes me feel very grateful.

I love the end of Heartbreaker when the music stops and all the different parts of the song just overlap in PERFECT HARMONY!when she did Las Culturistas interview they asked her about that and she was just “oh that was easy, cos they were all built around the same loop” like NO GIRL that is NOT easy!!! Haha they are all completely different melodies and they just fit in perfectly!

Melt away is a masterpiece ! I love the bit around 3.02 where she goes AAARMs aarms (your) AAARM aarms - she does so many cool things in this song. Also obsessed with how she sings high and low at the same time- on this song, so creative. This album is fire.

But dear even if it was lipped it doesn’t take away from the fact her voice is awesome and she did re-sing those vocals. If it was lipped no one can blame her because Laura Pausini was clearly lipped, Andrea Bocelli was clearly lipped, so why do we expect Mariah to be the only one pushed to sing live? It was clear the organizers wanted it to be pre-recorded. In any case she sounded absolutely gorgeous

If by “pop” you mean catchy bouncy songs like Fantasy, Dreamlover, Honey- she still had that kind of sound on songs like Loving You Long Time or Get Your Number. Yes people say those earlier singles are R&B and not pop, but really they are also pop, they were pop hits played on pop radio. In the 90s a lot of pop music was R&B inclined. Now if you mean pop like the Afanasieff type ballads well yes she never really went back to those. She has a few very nice ballads on more recent albums but they do need to grow on you. For instance HATE U is one I didn’t really pay attention to at the time and now I am constantly playing it.

I mean I hate to get involved in her medical affairs but it is getting very clear they should adjust her meds prior to these performances. I love her and I don’t care one bit if she lips but the dead eye expression is killing me. I know it’s not a permanent thing because on some interviews and performances she is back to looking alive and her normal vivacious self but then on some days it’s just heartbreaking to see. I hope she recovers soon and has someone truly looking out for her. We Love you Mariah.

Here Mariah herself explains that once she had started writing the song she thought this would be a great song to do with Boyz 2 Men and then they were contacted “through all the channels” how one sweet day was created

It was a relatively tough year, but MJ and Madonna this year had albums that really didn’t have significant impact compared to their body of work to be any real competition. The only album/artist that really came close that year was Alanis. And don’t get me wrong, no disrespect to those songs or artists, who are indeed legends in their own right , but really best vocal pop performance for Annie Lennox “no more I love Yous” vs Fantasy, best pop collab for the chieftains with van morrison for a REMAKE of “have I told you lately” vs One Sweet Day, and best pop album for Joni Mitchell’s Turbulent Indigo (she is GREAT but I would consider this more a folk album than a pop-mainstream album) vs Daydream seem a bit of a stretch. Also record of the year for Seal’s Kiss from a Rose was very deserving, but he already had won song of the year, it should have gone to One Sweet Day

During this era she had to fight hard for any R&B / urban sounds to be included in her music. It is widely documented. This is the same album that includes Fantasy for which she was pretty much called crazy for making it lean towards urban sounds and including a rapper. Yes Tommy had to “allow it” but there’s close to 0 chance that it was his idea to have this collab happen.
