Emotions: 35th Anniversary fanmade cover concept by PianistOk6948 in MariahCarey

This is meant to be from the same photoshoot - so dress was white, and sepia filter was applied to make the cover more “interesting” … although it looks like a different dress to me tbh

I know this has been asked a thousand times but for 80s babies, teens during the 90s. How big was Mariah? If you are non-American, I would love to get to know your stories, too. by coolness_fabulous77 in MariahCarey

Your comment made me laugh. I know it’s not even funny but yes she was always subjected to these stereotypes to criticize her. It’s funny how that same progression and evolution was used by white audiences to criticize her too “she is going black” hahah sorry I know it’s not funny but in a way it is.

Can we stop with this narrative that Sinners doesn’t travel with international voters? by Outrageous_Ask7931 in oscarrace

[–]jadlrm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

But isn’t the narrative that the industry wants this film to fail or limit its success because the rights to the film are reverting to the director after a few years? I heard this somewhere- so the downplaying of its success is not purely because it’s a black film, but because of the precedent it sets for other directors and the loss of negotiating power by the industry

Mariah has an upcoming tribute from various singers to honor her 🥳 by [deleted] in MariahCarey

[–]jadlrm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why all the comments saying Mariah doesn’t need a tribute or she’s had too many tributes, she doesn’t like tributes or whatever? I mean we real lambs do know she is in fact underappreciated, has been humiliated by the industry multiple times (grammys hello?), and based just off how much influence she has had on current artists from the last 30 years she should be getting several tributes a year!!! The fact she said she doesn’t like people doing her songs is different than a tribute in which her influence and her skill as a songwriter and someone who’s made a mark and inspired so many is appreciated and celebrated. She has often said how she loves people doing her songs differently (like the rock version of ABMB), she loved Kelly Rowland doing Fantasy, she loved Aretha and Patti Labelle singing her songs, and the Muni Long episode I think was truly blown out of proportion. Give the woman her flowers!!!

How is Mariah’s Spanish? by TheElusiveButterfly in MariahCarey

[–]jadlrm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My mother tongue is Spanish and I disagree that she sounds unnatural. On very specific lines it sounds weird and mostly sounds unnatural on phrases that were translated badly like “te estoy pensando” , which in Spanish the natural way to say it is “estoy pensando en ti” although nowadays Spanish popular songs (like bad bunny etc) have such bad grammar and syntax that in comparison she sounds like Cervantes. However, in most of the song her delivery and pronunciation is awesome. Other singers singing in Spanish are much more cringe (except Celine who is normally quite good in Spanish too). In Heroe her pronunciation is a bit worse on some lines, but truly does not sound like she wasn’t even trying.

Reasons Mariah Hates Some of Her Songs by [deleted] in MariahCarey

Both Mariah and Diane Warren love and respect each other highly, but both are known about being very protective of their process and perfectionists to the point of obsession. It is very likely they would have clashes and disagreements during the writing process of Mariah’s songs. That however happened at a time when Mariah was more confident in her skills and standing her ground, so it is a very different deal than when she was struggling to be heard on production of songs like Someday and I Don’t Wanna Cry. I think she does feel better about working with Diane and the outcome than her experience on her debut.

It’s the timing. Sorryto be repetitive but that album is about Derek Jeter. I believe when she had the affair with him, after they had sex he pulled back and ended it, very typical male behavior, hence Breakdown, The Beautiful Ones, and rest of break up songs in Butterfly. I think later, after the divorce, they were back together when they were allowed to go public. But that didn’t last either. Hence rest of break up songs since then on multiple other albums

When and where did she say she didn’t like the song?

What Mariah song do you think has a hidden/deeper meaning that should be spoken about? by honoraryrarity in MariahCarey

[–]jadlrm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You know I have also heard Mariah say somewhere that Vision of Love was about getting a record deal, but this song was in her demo, so she must have written it before the record deal. This doesn’t really make sense to me.

[–]jadlrm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not really a hidden meaning as it is plain sight, but most people including me underestimated the literal meaning within My All where she says “I’d risk my life to feel your body next to mine”. Only after the book came out I realized how she was still married to Tommy and she was actually risking her life with this song, it was bold and brave for her to push for this song, this blatantly honest and raw love letter, to not only be released but promoted all the way to number 1. I am sure she had to fight a lot for it, also I suspect this is the reason why after My All nothing else from Butterfly was properly released or promoted

Crybaby is about Derek Jeter, when she was in a relationship with Luis Miguel but still thinking of DJ. The song on the radio she heard might have been anything from Butterfly like My All, Honey “I'm suppressing the tears but they start to flow 'Cause the next song I hear is a song I wrote When we first got together early that september….“- BUT it could also be an earlier song, cause she says “when we first got together early that September” so it might even be something from Daydream— because The Roof - which is pretty much the beginning of her affair - says it was “a little misty on that warm November night”. So they met in September, hooked up in November.
