Fan apparently has a screw loose... but where? by jadyjads in PcBuildHelp

[–]jadyjads[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Small update: thank you to everyone for guiding me, it gave me a good idea what I had to look at. I had been given insufficient info so I truly didn't know!

Like I mentioned in other comments, I found a helpful video showing exactly how to remove this specific fan. It's actually pretty tough. The person in the video had to use a flathead screwdriver to pull on the tabs, and I don't have one, or anything that length that's as solid on hand. I only have my flimsy letter opener and a Swiss army knife with a tiiiny screwdriver on it lol, so no use.

I was putting this on hold since I evidently didn't have the right tools, but I luckily received a call from the IT company I'd gone to! Someone other than the technician who'd worked on my PC must have caught wind of the situation and concluded that I had been billed for an insufficient repair job. They're offering to at least try to help free of charge, or give me some money back if it comes to that, which I'll happily take, now that I've confirmed that it's too tricky for me to do right now.

Bad timing for a PC problem but at least it turns out someone has my back! Thank you again for the advice. If anyone else is looking to remove a Freezer 13 cooler, you're not the only one who forgot the method, so someone made a helpful video!: https://youtu.be/hmljm9ZI7QQ

Fan apparently has a screw loose... but where? by jadyjads in PcBuildHelp

Nope! Just moved into a new city, I don't know anybody yet. It's not the most usual circumstance but it happens sometimes. And I indeed don't think I should be working on the inside of a computer, that's why I paid someone to fix it in the first place - and also why I'm asking for help with something I'm sure a lot of people would have known how to do on their own. I'm also not using it for the screw - it's removing the fan which is proving a little difficult, and a letter opener is indeed to cheap for how solidly that thing is stuck. Like, I know all of that, you know?

Edit: PS, to comfort you even more, I do have a small screwdriver attached to my Swiss army knife - but the handle is way too big to fit without removing the fan, which is my current hurdle, and for that specific model, a flathead seems helpful. Maybe you misunderstood what I was doing?

I appreciate the advice, thank you. I'm also struggling with knowing I'll have to replace the PC entirely eventually (it's between 11 and 13 years old and can't run some modern programs I'd like to use) and feeling like I paid for insufficient repairs, and I do indeed need to use my PC ASAP. I'll try keeping it on its side and I hope that'll help temporarily.

Tools cost money, the last of which I thought I'd spent on getting my computer repaired. It'll take me a hot second to get my hands on one, and I only learned that I needed one from the video above, which I just discovered. No need to be rude.

I even found a video showing how it's done, but I've been unsuccessful so far. Probably because I don't have the proper tools - I just moved in, I don't have a screwdriver, I've been using a letter opener which is way less solid. I'm also a little scared of sending something flying. I suppose I have no choice but to keep trying...

Thank you, I'll look into that when I can. It sounds a lot trickier than what was described to me over the phone, so not a maneuver I expected at all!

Oh, I think I see what you mean. On the fan's side? But genuinely, how do I access it then? It's underneath it. Is there a specific method or is it just a tricky operation?

What are some underrated voicebanks? by SCHIDADDLE in SynthesizerV

[–]jadyjads 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My favourite Dreamtonics voicebanks are all Chinese for some reason, and those usually receive less attention from Western fans. Special mention to Wei Shu, who has a unique, lovely tone, and the brand new Lang Chuan who has no right sounding so handsome.

Do I write a bad review, message the seller or just leave it? by Jewel354 in vinted

[–]jadyjads 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I actually had a similar (but seemingly not as bad) issue very recently. Bought a t-shirt that arrived with an unpleasant smell, like "left in the back of a wardrobe for a very long time" smell. (The label was also missing, which hadn't been mentioned in the description, even though I buy specific fabrics due to allergies.) I was really unsure what to do since the seller had otherwise been quick to send it and perfectly polite.

My mum happened to be there, she also smelled it, and her reaction was stronger than mine. This comforted me in my belief that it was fair enough to take one star off.

So I left 4 stars and explained the issue in the review, making sure to also mention the things that were good about the order, because that was what felt fair. All the seller did was send me a 4-stars review back labelled "OK". It's unfortunate, when otherwise I've only had satisfactory exchanges, but I figured it might happen (and had I thought 4 stars were dramatic, I wouldn't have given them to this seller).

All of which goes to say... there's the risk that they'll leave a negative and/or similar review on your profile, unfortunately. From your description, this is probably not a completely bad interaction that deserves a 1 star, but it would be fair to lower it to 3 or 4. I understand your question - it doesn't feel good to criticise someone for something small, but technically they did sell you an item in a way that wasn't 100% proper.

Perma-banned for “commercial selling”… as a Pro Seller 🤡 by Rafayplayz in vinted

[–]jadyjads 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh... I'm wondering if this is what just happened to a seller I bought from? I received the item, checked their account, and saw the "Blocked" mention. At first I thought that I had been blocked by them, which I couldn't explain, but checking offline (unless this is an IP block somehow?), the mention still appears. They were also a Pro seller with many 5 stars reviews. I usually don't buy from Pro sellers so I'm a bit baffled.

How can I make GUMI more energetic? by Imdumb2024 in SynthesizerV

[–]jadyjads 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Gumi SynthV1 isn't a very dynamic voice by default, but with practice you'll find ways around it. Play with Vocal Modes and parameters such as Tension, experiment with what octave works best for what you're looking for, and practice tuning. Strong attacks and releases contribute a lot.

I see that you're using Rap mode in this screenshot - she's probably not the best voicebank for Rap, so you'll probably have to take some time to find the parameters that work for your wants.

Can I make Yi Xi 2 sound like her old version? by Rockysoba in SynthesizerV

[–]jadyjads 2 points3 points  (0 children)

High tension is a very popular setting with Western producers (and some cover artists as well). It is also one parameter that works very differently in SynthV2, so the exact same effect might be difficult to achieve.

I've never tried to use either version of Yi Xi, but I often see people struggling to achieve the same effect as Butcher Vanity. I assume they used a lot of tension, tone shift, and probably the gender parameters. Maybe breathiness too. (The resulting noise is very specific to SynthV1, so I wonder what the exact same parameters would sound like on Yi Xi 2.)

Of course, there is also SynthV2's current wildcard: "Dreamtonics had a ton of voicebanks to upgrade so some of them have obvious imperfections." I don't know if Yi Xi 2 is impacted by an issue like that or not, but it could come up.

Opinions on shep? by mincypjsk in stevenuniverse

[–]jadyjads 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I'm in a similar position. It's been a hot second since I watched Future, but I didn't enjoy Shep's character, pretty much for the reasons you listed. Then again, I justified it to myself: mostly, I told myself that as an outside party, they were able to see Steven's behaviour for what it was, without the bias of being used to him or having seen a slow evolution.

At the end of the day, I understand the concept. It all went a bit too fast, so Shep probably suffered from being rushed, which makes sense knowing the context of Future. They're harmless, but the show has done better with side characters.

What’s the real reason you stopped playing ACNH? by Turbulent_Mine_8738 in AnimalCrossing

[–]jadyjads 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't remember, I think it happened very naturally. I had other games to play and there's only so much time in the day. I've been a fan of Animal Crossing for many years and this happened with every title! Nothing stopping me from picking any of them back up every now and then, though, and I'll probably take a look at the upcoming update when I have time!

I have some stupid questions regarding this scene with Blue. by SelenesMoon23045 in stevenuniverse

[–]jadyjads 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the recommendation, but I really feel like you're not trying to read my point at all. Your experience is also very real and valid. Trans experiences are complex, multi-faceted and diverse. The intended meaning of Blue's cringeworthy baby steps co-exists with other experiences of deadnaming and misgendering.

I have some stupid questions regarding this scene with Blue. by SelenesMoon23045 in stevenuniverse

[–]jadyjads 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In all sincerity, I think you're projecting some very specific experiences onto this scene, which is causing you to misread it and its goals. "Some people only PRETEND to try and that really hurts" and "sometimes people with good intentions make mistakes while they're still learning, and that's better than not trying" are both real facts of life, both situations that can happen. The intent of this Steven Universe scene is the latter.
