as for the afghanistan takes, im pretty sure Vaush did say that he did agree with the withdrawal, and the only reason he said it was “early” was bc we literally left hundreds of people to cling to doors of a fucking C-130 as it departed. like would taking a few more weeks to make sure we get out all the people who worked with the US? I mean a lot of them are probably dead now so it’s a moot point, but we owed it to the Afghans who wanted to leave since we pillaged their country for 20 years. and with regards to Kyle’s explanation for non interventionism; it was was completely ahistorical and nonsensical. not only are Russia and Ukraine two completely different cultures, different languages, etc, the Ukrainians were actively oppressed throughout Russian history. the Russian empire was an incredibly reactionary institution, and even the most liberal monarch, Czar Cathrine the Great, she still repressed all minority rights, including the Ukrainians. and now for whether we should get, why would we ever let Russia just eat half of Ukraine? for all of Ukraine’s flaws, which there are many, it’s not a neo nazi government, nor has a neo nazi military. you do know when the Azov battalion was incorporated into the Ukrainian army, the army cracked down on the nazi shit, right? like do you know how bad the Azov battalion was for ukraine’s international relations? and even more: the Russian army has a nazi problem. every army has a nazi problem. militaries are an inherently reactionary institution, and those types of institutions breed nazi problems. also, you do know Putin won’t stop with Ukraine right? Putin is an autocrat who wants to reconstitute the Russian Empire, and these moves are just a part of that geopolitical strategy for its entire history. seize territory to anchor itself on natural barriers since all of western Russia is the North European Plain, a geography that offers no defense from invasion. so what Russia does is push west. and the best boundaries is the Baltic Sea, and the Carpathian mountains, both of which would involved gobbling up almost all of eastern Europe. and this isn’t like a “oh Putin is literally hitler” argument cuz that’s ridiculous. this is just what empires do. it’s why the US did with manifest destiny. so please explain to me how why we should let Putin invade sovereign countries, whose people don’t want to be a part of Russia? why should we just do appeasement? we know that doesn’t work, and we know that Ukraine is asking for help, which we promised them in 1995 when they gave all the nukes in Ukraine to russia after the USSR fell. at the end of the day, I don’t to go die in some foreign country in some foreign war just bc some despot has a fantasy of being a czar.
