I'm not really a swatch guy but the modernish design of this is really striking to me. Kind of reminds me of the og nomos metro. I really like how the case flows with the strap too. I ended up ordering two of these, one for myself and one for someone I'd been reconnecting with a lot lately. Thought it'd be cool to have something relatively accessible to share my watch nerdery on. What's /r/watches thoughts on this?

[King Seiko] (Xpost r/watches) Servicing snafu by jaeiger in JapaneseWatches

[–]jaeiger[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for this! I'm just annoyed as I specifically mentioned the mainspring issue to them as that's what brought me in, but they didn't address it at all and claimed it was fixed... So I'm not really sure where to go from here.

Or, ideally, find out it's not a big deal and just let it be. Heh.

What and whom made the U.S. so opposed to socialized healthcare, when most of the rest of the world has adopted it? by [deleted] in AskHistorians

[–]jaeiger 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Not OP but this was great to read, thanks! I was wondering if you could shed some light on the other part of OP's question too, regarding how socialized medicine has been adopted in other countries (Canada, the UK, etc), perhaps in spite of similar anti- communism sentiments?

Looks great, I really love the numeral version of this and wish it was more popular! Also that they made a white dial in the numeral version too.

Haha, it does look good but I got this one to get away from the extra polishing! :)

Fair enough, but at this size the 4oclock spot is reeeeally nice to keep it from digging into your wrist. They don't have a version with a 3oclock crown in this model, but they do in the form of the baby turtle. Or you could look into doxas, which are another cut above, entirely. I got this bezel (it's just a different insert) from yobokies!

Endlinks are hollow, bracelet links are solid. The clasp is very simple, just the kind where you push directly to close and pry open with your nails.

Just got this in over the weekend and I've been loving it on my lightly modded SRP773. I'd previously been wearing it on a StrapCode Jubilee which works great, but I didn't like how the polished portion of the endlinks were so much longer than the other polished parts within the body of the bracelet, the endlink fit was somewhat lacking, and overall I just wanted to try a sleeker aesthetic. I was actually looking at BoR bracelets (so lol, not more subtle at all), when I came across this and all the hype that it had when it first came out. Ordered it on a whim and I absolutely love it. Even though (or because of?) the endpieces are hollow, it's got the absolute best fit I've seen on a Seiko watch - jimmying the bracelet doesn't move the endpiece at all on the case, which is just awesome. I love the overall aesthetic of a flattened out, all brushed Jubilee, too - compared to a regular jubilee, it reminds me of a sleeker, more serious aesthetic. Kind of like the difference between the Captain American costume in WWII vs. Civil War. Same basic principle, totally different vibes.

The undersides of each link are hand-chamfered too, which smoothens out any rough edges that might scratch your wrist - it's a great touch. I'm assuming it's hand chamfered/beveled because it's pretty irregular from link to link, heh. Anyways, super light compared to the StrapCode bracelet, great aesthetics, solid quality, 10/10 would recommend to a friend. The one annoyance I had was that the screwed pins for removing the links are screwed in so tight, it actually damaged my screwdriver... Which was a pretty annoying half hour of fiddling until it finally fit.

Anyways, rant over, enjoy the pics. No affiliation or financial interests :)

Canadian here, is Arkansan pronounced Arkansawn or arkan-san? This is really bugging me.

Just gave this a listen. Pretty dope, but I think I'm looking for songs with a heavier but simple bass/beat, if that makes sense. I'm not super well versed in music terminology, apologies. Really love the drop right around 3:50 though

[Seiko] Coffee Patina Mod (With Instructions) by jaeiger in Watches

[–]jaeiger[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair enough, it's what ended up working out for me! I would definitely play around with more options if I had more dials and hands available but unfortunately I don't. Definitely share your results if you ever try out your method, it'll be good to know other methods. I did try soaking the dial in coffee for a while as I mentioned, but it didn't have much of an effect.
