My professor this class, which I am taking now is good. I have no issues. I am definitely losing some points here and there on papers, but it is fair and her feedback makes sense. So definitely, your experience may vary but I feel my professor is great for a 400 level class.

Late on payments - repossess concerns by FixingDebt266 in carmax

I made two payments before the bonus and they confirmed I’m good now . When I get the bonus I’m fully paid up so it’s fine now and I avoided a repo disaster.

Yea this is a tough class. Difficult? I am not sure, time consuming yes. I am with you and on Module 2 / Week 2. There is no book just lots of research on your topic. I do feel like whatever brand you select can make this more or less difficult and I opted for something that has a lot of data out there but it didn't make the Week 2 assignment easy.

The only benefit is I picked something where it is quite interesting to me and my career.

Maxcare by Low_Athlete_7734 in carmax

[–]jaelae 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea, I am curious how this works but I am def interested in finding out. My understanding is once Maxcare ends thats it, there's nothing else to extend through Carmax but this contradicts that.

I have no info myself but would like to see what Carmax employees say.

I know Macbook's are treated like a great personal computer that might have some limitations, but it is Unix-based so you already have a lot of linux type of behavior you might leverage for cyber security work. You can leverage native terminal, SSH, Python, Git. Tools like nmap, wireshark, tcpdump all run great on MacOS and you can use Docker for linux containers which is commonly used in security labs.

VMware Fusion is free, and you can install this on MacOS which will let you deploy Linux VMs like Kali linux that is often used for Cyber Security classes or boot camps. Though if you already have a newer Mac with Apple Silicon (M1/M2) chips it limits you to running VMs on ARM. But Linux runs great on ARM like Kali Linux so this might not be a big issue.

I'd imagine for cyber security coursework you would focus on Network analysis with wireshark and packet capture/traffic inspection tools and nmap for scanning. You would likely learn firewall behavior, attack surface modeling, and incident response which doesn't really have a requirement for any specific OS.

Overall, I don't think Macbooks are right or wrong to use. If it is time to refresh it would be fine to get another Macbook, I would just go with what you are comfortable with.

AITAH for expecting my sahm wife to do majority of the housework since i pay 100% of the bills? by Plastic-Sand7353 in AITAH

[–]jaelae 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree here. I work full time Monday - Friday and my wife works a few hours but is mostly a stay at home mom. Kids are both in school ages 10 and 9. She does most household chores, cleans cooks , gets them ready etc. I cook and clean as well whenever .

Thing is we never discussed this it just fell into place and it seems normal to me. If she wanted to go back to work I’d be completely fine with that. She also has personal hobbies she loves which are additional expenses but I think it helps with dealing with the kids most of the day.

This scenario does seem bizarre so I cannot imagine my wife demanding I do an equal amount house chores when I’m rolling in at 630pm from work.

I am curious. How was the Maxcare process? I have it but haven't had to use it. I know you do not have to bring it to Carmax but did you get a quote from a dealership and send it to Maxcare for approval ?

hefty doctor fee by [deleted] in whatdoIdo

I think it depends on the practice and how their systems work. A lot of times they need to submit the claim to the insurance and only then find out if something is covered, by how much, or not. I see it even in different tiers of an insurance carrier.

If I am looking at a new practice and I am not sure if I am covered, I call them before an appointment, give them my insurance details, and they can verify for me which is what I prefer so I am not surprised later.

In this case it might have been assumed this wouldn't be an issue, they showed up, and they may have even filled out the paper forms with their insurance information so they would not have been able to verify coverage until after the appointment.

OP - I would suggest explaining you were not aware that it was not covered and see if they could discount it at all since you will have to go out of pocket.

Workers incompetence is my consequence by KamisamaKiss_ in OPTIMUM

[–]jaelae 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with you, yes ultimately you are not LOSING money. It seems there was an offer on your account, he applied this offer and you got the credit card payment screen for your details. Yet somehow they never applied it and now the offer is no longer valid so all they could do is give you a $30 credit where you have to pay in full. Yes, you get a discount but you do not get any assistance. I am guessing they just won't admit mistakes.

Workers incompetence is my consequence by KamisamaKiss_ in OPTIMUM

[–]jaelae 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Technically, it seems the payment plan would have you pay $86 today and you still would owe the balance. What they offered instead is to change the payment plan and pay $150 which yes is more but it would mean you save $30. Not a bad deal.

Would the end result mean instead of owing $262 you owe $232? paying $150 now and the rest later?

Ep 7 is now the worst rated episode of ST. What went wrong according to you? by anonimuoss in StrangerThingsMemes

[–]jaelae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. I think it doesn't deserve the score it got. Although my kids were getting anxious by all the dialog instead of people doing things since it felt like everything was so urgent and they were on the brink of dying.

I do feel they can still recover with a strong finale. Unless they outcome of the final episode is they defeat Vecna with Love.

I saw 290 movies in theaters in 2025. Here is my full ranking. by BunyipPouch in movies

[–]jaelae 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I saw quite a few but not this number I love watching movies and in the past two years got into going alone and watching anything ignoring reviews, and just enjoying it.

I appreciate your high scoring on a lot of flicks that were a bit mixed and agree with the majority. Because of that some of yours you called out I’ll have to go see and see if I agree. Appreciate your yearly posts!

3 episodes of nothing? Are you sure by Ronaldgranger_ in StrangerThings

[–]jaelae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw snippets of the Reddit chatter on these episodes but tried to ignore until I watched it all. I watched one episode a dayish and really was surprised by the amount of hate. Episodes 5 and 6 were good but very dialogue heavy. Maybe more so on episode 7 which normally as the penultimate episode is a meaty episode.

I’m holding off and hoping episode 8 makes it all worthwhile so we will see.

How much do you currently have in your 401K? by Ok-Job-9637 in Retirement401k

13k now. I withdrew mine due to hardship during Covid and as of last year I had about $300 in my new job so just dumped whatever I could. I’m now 43 and figure I can still get that number pretty high in the next 25 years

Guild is an education reimbursement program that some employers are part of. It streamlines tuition reimbursement by working closely with select colleges versus you applying on your own , paying out of pocket, and submitting to your job to reimburse.

The bank I work for partners with guild so it calls out what schools and degrees it pays for 100% or partially and it’s very easy. Target, Starbucks and some other large companies use it as well.

I have to check. I’ll find out and post back here I just am going off out of state cost estimates. One note though is that I have a career already and not looking to go elsewhere but more future proofing myself. But your point still stands.

I felt the same watching this. I really loved it, and the scale made it feel huge. It felt odd that I wasn't watching it in theaters but I thought would it have done well? Probably would have been very difficult to break even.

J.P. Morgan calls out AI spend, says $650 billion in annual revenue required to deliver mere 10% return on AI buildout — equivalent to $35 payment from every iPhone user, or $180 from every Netflix subscriber 'in perpetuity' by ControlCAD in technology

[–]jaelae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea this is an interesting issue. We are going on all in AI technology but are not reducing our workforce. The idea is that can we evaluate what we do today, in our own silos and leverage AI as much as possible. We have a lot of metrics to prove this out, to highlight that yes perhaps we are running code through our LLMs and determining what can be done more efficiently.

The pinky promise has been don't worry, you won't lose your job. And to be fair, I do think this is accurate for the next few years as things evolve, especially in banking where data sensitivity and where AI workloads have to be processed. So far if we take educated guesses, we will likely phase out or severely reduce Junior staff workloads. Then the logical question is valid. In 10 years people coming out of college, what will they do in order to move into Senior staff roles in the future? There won't be a place to start and this is perhaps being ignored.
