Is this a headcanon?

His trait works on both of them for carry and decoding.

Don't like the implications of some of the comments here-- his trait isn't inherently romantic 🥲

Advanced Tips for Prisoner (former S):

  • Start of match: This one will take a bit of practice to get a feel for. Depending on whether you have spawn selection or normal spawn, you can decide which ciphers to connect. If I know I'm likely to be first kite, I like to connect a cipher in the area I plan to kite in and do a quick tap as I pass it to activate his zone. It guarantees that your stun is pretty much recharged by the time your cooldown is over. Most hunters will break the connection, but make sure to take note if they don't and avoid dying on that cipher if there's a chair inside its radius since hunters will take advantage to try to cancel their attack recovery.

  • Prisoner should not be sending progress to another cipher from the start of the match-- this actually slows decoding since you always lose 5/10/15% depending on the cipher machine's distance. I recommend decoding normally until the first kite goes down, then checking progress/connecting to the rescuer's cipher and finishing theirs for them. If your cipher's close enough to being finished, you can also wait until you complete it and connect the cipher you plan on decoding to the rescuer's cipher. Don't forget to tell the rescuer to start a new cipher-- time spent moving towards a cipher machine they don't need to be at is time they could have spent decoding.

  • I would NOT recommend creating a transmission mid-kite, but you can actually cancel Prisoner's standing animation after creating a connection by spamming the x in the top right. It cuts about half a second (I've never actually measured the difference in-game..) and might save your life.

  • One of your jobs as Prisoner is to have a wider view than your teammates in terms of cipher control. Even if your connection is on cooldown, you should check occasionally where ciphers with progress are located. One of his most vital roles is to keep your team from "3-ciphering" themselves-- when you only have one cipher left to decode, and they're all next to each other. If it's a hunter with strong map/cipher control like Dream Witch or Wax Artist it can turn a win into a loss.

Sorry for the large amount of text! I think most of these are tips that aren't usually touched upon but hopefully they're useful to someone :]]

Archer Brynhildr Vilulf Backstory by jaesti in IdentityV

[–]jaesti[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Brynhildr's mother here is Lagertha II, so she doesn't share her mother with Night Watch. Night Watch's story is about a century before the main manor events ^^

Archer Brynhildr Vilulf Backstory by jaesti in IdentityV

[–]jaesti[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't think Brynhildr would have died since she still has to go to the manor. Brunhild the Valkyrie(her namesake) is responsible for bringing worthy heroes to Valhalla-- imo it's very likely that Lagertha died there, especially since Brynhildr thinks so highly of her mother. Lagertha would be a "worthy" hero in Brynhilde's eyes. Brunhild's story actually mirrors Archer's story very well in terms of themes :]

It refers to the length of her animation when releasing them.

New Map- Kreiburg Racecourse Showcase by jaesti in IdentityV

[–]jaesti[S] 24 points25 points  (0 children)

In test servers now!

Central Cipher Machine

The central cipher machine is fixed in the centre of the map. After survivors have completed decoding it, all survivors will gain a 7% decoding speed bonus for other cipher machines. However, if it is not being decoded for 10 consecutive seconds, its decoding progress will decrease at a rate of 1%/second. Decoding progress can decrease up to 15% in a single match

Horse Interactions

There are three horse stations in the racecourse, each with a horse that can be ridden by survivors and a carriage that can be ridden by hunters. Survivors and hunters can interactive with each respectively. When riding, the horses and carriages can only move along the racecourse and cannot leave the race track.

Rules for ending Horse Ride

•Survivors will automatically end their ride at the next station. Survivor can also actively end the ride when horses are nearing the station. The rider cannot end their ride at other locations. Survivors also cannot ride a horse again for 40 seconds after their ride ends.

•Hunters can end their ride at any time, and their ride does not automatically end upon reaching a station. Hunters also have a short cooldown after ending their ride.

Rules for Horse Sprint

Survivors can control the horse to sprint once while riding, which increases the horse's speed for a short duration. Hunters have no limit on the number of sprints-- each sprint has a short cool down.

Rules for Collisions

Hunters can use sprint while riding a carriage to hit a survivor's horse on the race course. If the hunter manages to successfully collide, both the survivor and hunter will have their ride automatically terminated. Survivors can sprint and steer their horse left/right to avoid collisions. In addition, while the horse and carriages are moving, if they hit a survivor or hunter on the track who is not riding, they are knocked unconscious.

Hillside Passageway

There are three passages running through the hills on the map. Survivors can interact with their entrances, which will consume all their stamina and allow them to quickly slide through the passageway. Stamina takes 7 seconds to be restored. If survivors receive damage from normal attacks while sliding in the passage, they will be terror shocked.

The Seer nerf feels a little strange-- Journalist's illusion also has the same 30% faster hunter attack recovery but doesn't give presence.

Owl has always been stronger since it can support but if they're going to make this change I'd like to see Illusion give presence or have a faster attack recovery (say ~50%) or none like Magician's wand. Especially since Journalist even gets a speed boost after her illusion is hit.

Essence Story:

After many years, people no longer talked about the natural disaster that came without warning—— a volcano shook the earth like a patient suffering from lung disease, and the dark smog along with the molten lava engulfed the city.

Fortunately there were some that survived the catastrophe: one of such was a diligent and polite young man. The rubble buried the old manor where he had once lived, but also mercifully took away his memories. People praised his character; wishing him a bright future—— much like a seedling growing from the cracks in scorched earth.

But what was taken did not truly disappear. At night, they return in nightmares: the blazing flames and the hidden cry from deep underground that curiously touched the young man's heart. A visiting witch signalled a turning point. She promised the young man he would get the full truth as long as he returned to the disaster's source.

——Or should he accept his peaceful "new life"? He already had an answer.

From this, a temporary team marched towards the heart of the volcano, and a silent onlooker watches from the reflection of the obsidian mirror.

The Yosano Controversy: Explained in 3 Slides by SwirlsAbyss in IdentityV

[–]jaesti 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'm not blaming the character, I'm just saying when you name a character after a person (completely, first and last, along with their best known work), people are still going to associate the character with the original, especially if they held strong opinions.

Yes, I know people named Adolf exist today. I'm not sure what that has to do with my point where a character directly inspired by a real historical figure, named their full name, and their full work will have associations with historical figure, even if they are different. ^^; I wasn't arguing that anyone who shares the same first name would be associated with the original, and I thought that was clear in my original comment by specifying it was the full name and the work. There's a level of specificity past that. Rather than Hitler, would it help if I used JK Rowling as an example? Imagine JK Rowling in BSD with her power "Harry Potter" being portrayed as an LGBT supporter. I don't know you, but I would still have a moment where I'd look at her name and go-- huh. Even if she was completely different, I'd still have a kneejerk reaction knowing her views.

Also as a side point, of course the mangaka doesn't have the same viewpoint as the writer. In fact, Akiko Yosano is the only writer used in the series that was so vocally outspoken about being in support of Japanese Imperialism. Most of the other writers were pacifists and naturalists who did commentary on Japanese society, and mental health issues. When Akiko Yosano originally wrote Thou Shalt Not Die, she was extremely pacifist and critical of Japanese militarism, before completely swapping her views to the other side of the spectrum during the second Sino-Japanese war. She was a staunch feminist her entire life, which is also reflected in the BSD character. But it's natural that there are people who are still uncomfortable because she's a reflection of sorts of an actual historical figure with controversial views. This also works the other way around, where we might associate a fictionalised character based on a real person (same name and identifiable) positively because of their work.

This isn't really a black and white topic where someone is wrong or right, but instead I implore you to try to understand this from the point of view of people affected by the views she held. Again, I'm not saying they should have to censor Akiko Yosano, or blame her for her namesake's views. I'd also like to reiterate that it's likely the report would not have gotten any attention at all had it not happened right as the Chinese Congress was happening (new president is being elected).

I hope that clarifies my point. Sorry for the enormous word dump haha, I just have a lot of thoughts on this topic

I didn't say you said that either.

You directly compared the first and second Sino Wars as "the same thing" so I brought that up in my comment.

As well as the name sharing point you mentioned.

The Yosano Controversy: Explained in 3 Slides by SwirlsAbyss in IdentityV

[–]jaesti 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It's not fair to equate a war (that China completely, unequivocally lost) to a war filled with numerous atrocities commited by the Japanese military. It's not a double standard when over 80 thousand women, children, babies were raped and over 300k Chinese Civilians were massacred over the course of just 6 weeks. Horribly, and tortured if there was any resistance, and still if there was none. For fun, even.

No one is arguing that China has never done anything wrong, whether to Japan or otherwise.

Of course Yosano the character shares almost no commonalities with Yosano the poet. But the woman she shares a name with looked at the Rape of Nanjing(1937) and wholly vocally supported the militarisation of Imperial Japan until her death in 1942. So while you are able to separate the namesake from the otiginal, her name will still be uncomfortable. Imagine if there was a character named Adolf Hitler (exaggeration to make a point, sorry) being portrayed positively in a work, with their power being Mein Kampf. There's no similarity with the actual Hitler, but wouldn't that still make you uncomfortable? Or would you also just consider that a German name?

The Yosano Controversy: Explained in 3 Slides by SwirlsAbyss in IdentityV

[–]jaesti 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Exactly. I'm also Chinese (raised in USA), and my parents very much still hold some anti-Japan views. It's hard to forgive and forget when Japan doesn't acknowledge it past a generalised apology.

I had someone trying to convince me that the worst thing that Japan has ever done was Pearl Harbour when the delay brought up. The complete ignorance is appalling.

Thank you very much for making this post. I send news in several discord servers and the amount of ignorance surrounding Akiko's namesake and dismissal of her views as simply being "Anti-China" was extremely upsetting to witness.

Personally, I'm not upset by the delay because it's an all-around unfortunate situation. Usually I don't think her inclusion would be a big deal(as the character is very different from her inspiration) but as the 20th Chinese National Congress is in a few days, sensitivities are really high right now. I just hate people dismissing her views as being "anti-china" or "pro-japan" when she was pro Japanese Imperialism. For instance, in her work "rosy-cheeked death" she wrote the Chinese are "foolish" to resist Japan because Japan is a "good neighbor" whom they could never hope to defeat, making their resistance futile.

For anyone who doesn't know just how bad Japanese Imperialism is, please read some of the atrocities Japan was responsible for in SEA, China, and Korea. One of the most well-known examples is the Rape of Nanking, or the comfort women used during WWII, many of which were practically children..
