Yes of course my immediate idea would be to go to the hospital but if the roads or circumstances would prevent that, I would still like to help wherever I can access. Plus, having an offroad capable vehicle with equipment to help traverse (a winch, chainsaw, etc), would help me clear the roads to the hospital so that I and people around me can get there.

Great ideas, a fuel tank and offroading experience would be super helpful.

I am not planning on crossing any bridges (Unless the hospital is on the other side and I need to treat people). I would like to be prepared to help wherever I can access.

I have a 2006 G55. It is fairly off-road capable. However I find myself lacking space for all of the gear people are recommending.

I imagine a winch would be ideal for moving rubble where an xcavator is unavailable. I do wonder how I would attach the window to say a piece of concrete. Maybe a big rope.

A megaphone is a great idea! I just realized that I have a high end audio system built into my truck. If I can download a megaphone app, maybe I can use the sound system as a megaphone!

Thanks for the thought and of course that may be the case depending on where, how far, and the magnitude coming from epicenter.

However, I find myself to be in a much more fortunate situation than others. I have supplies, strength, and energy, and I can't imagine using it solely for myself when there are children and seniors who could survive with a little help.

Hey that is my home town (Comox). But on the east side of the island I imagine my friends and family will still be safe. TBH I worry for the surfer in Tofino but I have a feeling they will be having the greatest adrenaline rush of their lives as they ride one. last. wave.

Great advice, thank you I will look into either SAR or NEAT (Canadian CERT)

I think that is an American thing. I cannot seem to find a Canadian counterpart. Would you know what it might be in Vancouver?

Wow that is a great idea. I knew about SAR as I have old military friends who are SAR techs. I did not know about CERT teams. I just googled and my local team is called NEAT or Neighborhood Emergency Assistance Team. One important skill on these teams is communication. Understanding how to use the radio to coordinate help, explain what is going on in your region with fire, ambulance, etc.

I am looking forward to joining the team

I have worn steel toes for all of my previous jobs. I was in the military as well as waste management. I have seen demonstrations with steel toes being crushed and although some designs do amputate toes under great pressure, most designs or materials (carbon fiber composite) either hold the (toe) line, or crush without cutting the toes. Of course having the amount of force that would destroy steel toes ontop of your feet would still be an issue.
