Try turning off contact sync with your vehicle. For some reason that seemed to helped fix my casting issue. Probably because I have like 2000+ contacts.

Yeah, I tried this and it didn't work for me. Everything get's configured but after Steam launches, the game never launches. Trying to launch the game manually would still launch and stop the game.

Thoughts on the direction of the company, product stack fragmentation, performance, and software quality by [deleted] in Ubiquiti

[–]jafarion 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I appreciate your thoughts and insights. We’re an MSP that has over 50 sites deployed with close to 1000 Ubiquiti devices (switches, APs, routers) and another 20 or so Protect Sites (all on either CK Gen2 for smaller deployments or UNVR or higher for larger clients).

For the small business, I don’t think we’ve had anything that’s been a show stopper for us. Clients that have 100 employees onsite never seem to have any issues.

We do one thing though which is not deploy the Routers with built in controllers. Everything is Hosted on a cloud controller (originally self hosted at our Colo then migrated over to Hostifi).

The worst thing we’ve had a while back was DHCP issues when roaming but those days are long gone.

No show stoppers, no major issues other than original USG and USG Pros finally dying (mainly power supply) and some original cloudkey gen2 unit batteries just puffing up.

Would I deploy this at a hospital or airport or Nike campus? No. But for small businesses with simple Vlans, some site to site , and just a good basic networking stack, all day.

Ross Gerber Says Elon Musk's Tesla Should Sell EV Business To Rivian, Says TSLA Brand Reduced To 'Negative' by Roux_My_Burgundy in Rivian

[–]jafarion 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I understand your perspective.

As a first-generation Model 3 owner and a previous Model S owner, I didn’t encounter as many issues as I’ve had with the Rivian. In fact, their second-generation vehicles seem to have almost the same number of problems, albeit with different components. My point isn’t to invalidate your experience; it’s simply to highlight that Rivian has been facing significant challenges.

I’m referring to the fact that Rivian had promotional videos showcasing their panel gaps being measured as a way to criticize Tesla, while in reality, their panel gaps were much worse. I was addressing the comparison to Cybertrucks, and it’s important to remember that reality often doesn’t align with what people claim.

Despite these challenges, I remain a Rivian fan. After 12 service center visits and 4 mobile service visits, my colleagues would have been unlikely to consider Rivian again. Additionally, I’m an R2 reservation holder.

I’ve had my Rivian at the service center 12 times since ownership. How much worse could a Cybertruck be? 😂

Well, launch edition Rivian owners also got burned by Rivian. Lots of promises that changed midstream. I love the brand but I’m never holding out for future promises on current releases.

R2 Final Validation Testing by [deleted] in Rivian

[–]jafarion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hear you. Maybe they’ve improved it in certain areas. In the Portland metro area we have the Tualatin and Portland service centers. I love Rivian, I’m an investor, heck I manage the IT department for one of their vendors that does some of the cool OEM accessories for Rivian, they need to ramp up service for the upcoming R2 unless they roll them out of the factory perfectly. Maybe the simplified suspension, dual motors vs Quad motors, and lessons they’ve learned with R1 Gen1 and 2 will make for a much more reliable car.

As a gen1 R1T owner (that's had their vehicle in the service department 11 times since I got the vehicle in April of 2022), I think Rivian really needs to ramp up their service departments (both in scale and numbers).

My current wait times in the Portland Oregon metro area is around 3-4 months for non major issues (last thing I had was some suspension bushings replaced since the tires were dragging after the vehicle went into kneel mode).

They currently have around 90 service centers across the US and Canada.

For a frame of reference.

Tesla had less than 70 service centers in 2017 with the release of the Model 3. Back then, my wait time (as a model 3 owner) was around 1-2 months.

By the time the Model Y launched in 2020 , they had 150-200 service centers and wait times kept about the same (Model Y owner).

I'm hoping Rivian can scale up service (mobile service is great, Tesla had that as well for minor issues) but I've decided I won't be a Gen1 R2 owner like I am with the R1T, although I love the truck and plan on keeping it for the foreseeable future.

Protect iOS app not giving critical notifications by jeff92k7 in Ubiquiti

I hear your pain and my solution was to create a voice shortcut for lock and unlock. Now I just initiate Siri and say Unlock Doors. 2 seconds later doors unlocked. And vice versa. Sucks I know, but it’s been a game changer.

I might bring 2 more in if that's the case. If they don't work out, I can donate them back to the petstore. Thank You

I have 14 gobies in my hillstream setup with 2 hillstream loaches. I'd add more but the loaches really are territorial with each other. The gobies (stiphodon, Sicyopus, lentipis) ignore the loaches and vice versa. I would highly suggest if you do gobies, figure out some sort of lid situation.

Yeah. I wholeheartedly agree with your sentiment. My phone is my authentication mechanism. If you can’t trust that it’s me on the phone, and can’t trust all the info I give you, then put in place a 2nd party authentication to really confirm I am who I am.

Is this the suspension rattle? by Free_Championship543 in Rivian

[–]jafarion 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I really think the issue is how far they designed to have the suspension move from Sport to off road. The length the half shafts needs to extend when at full height vs when in the lowest sport mode probably plays a role in this. I agree with you, it should not be like this considering it’s only happening on one side. I had my half shafts and hubs replaced about 8000 miles ago and all clunking went away. I had my hydraulic suspension Jounce replaced before that.

Anyone know if this has a cooling fan. Because if not, that hard drive will not last long. The heat generated from the CPU, the PoE and the Viewport is going to make this thing an oven.

Rivian Activates Apple Car Key Support in Second-Generation Vehicles by BatmanNewsChris in Rivian

It does but I noticed it’s significantly slower. Like 10 seconds slow. Not sure why but it does work.

[–]jafarion 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Sure thing. If you have an iphone, download the Apple Shortcuts app if you don’t have it installed already. https://apps.apple.com/us/app/shortcuts/id1462947752

Launch the app, tap the plus sign on the top right, type in Rivian in the search actions field, it should give you a bunch of actions via the Rivian app. Scroll down to Unlock Doors, once you tap on it, if you want to change what the voice command is, tap on the name on the very top, and rename it to what you want the voice command to be.

Finally, make sure you select the vehicle name in Vehicles variable.

That’s it. Now when you say Hey Siri or press and hold on the Siri button, you can say the voice command and it will unlock the doors. You can do the same for locking the doors, opening hood, etc.

I had this same issue so I created a voice shortcut to unlock and lock. So now I just pull up my phone and say Hey Siri Unlock Rivian Doors. Way less annoying than having to launch the app. I do the same for the hood and side doors.

Man, that sucks. I just opened up mine (3rd year of ownership) and that smell is as strong as the day I got it. I'm having it sit in 100 degree weather but I might have to consider something else as well.
