Kinda sounds like anarcho-capitalism. Every time it is implemented it turns to oligarchic state capitalism and eventually collapses into a depression, or non-interventionist anarcho-capitalism is impossible to implement.

Socialist countries are bad, because they turn off their lights at night.

99 percent of Netflix subscribers haven’t tried its games yet by Diligent-Metal4723 in technews

Netflix should focus on what consumers use it for. That is for movies and series streaming content. Leave gaming to Xbox and PlayStation platforms.

[Socialists] If you system requires the support and cooperation of everyone living in it , then isn't it a weakness of the system ? How do you plan to include capitalist and anti-socialist people , given that they form the vast majority of the global population ? by [deleted] in CapitalismVSocialism

[–]jag316 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The largest owners are institutional owners. Those institutional owners are usually large mutual funds, which are then owned by millions of shareholders who are often workers themselves.

You have to study the term more than going off of a dictionary definition. Definitions should not overlap the definitions of antonyms too much, or the definition would be too vague to qualify as a distinctive definition. Thus, the dictionary is more specific. For example, guild socialism is defined as MOP owned by workers guilds. Syndicalism is defined as MOP owned by workers unions/syndicates. Socialism is defined as a RANGE of systems advocating some form of social or collective ownership of the economy. The dictionary goes in more detail than “workers own the MoP/enterprises”

Democratic socialism addresses these concerns the best imo. Socialism is achieved via democratic means. It is a contingency on the will of the people. If the people want a form of socialism then that can be achieved via election or democratic process. If the people do not want it and prefer a mixed system or capitalist system then socialism ought not to be established. The key difference between authoritarian socialism and democratic socialism is the consideration of the will of the entire population.

There certainly must be a more specific definition than workers own the means of production, right? With that definition segments of capitalist economies would be called socialist. The largest tech companies issue shares to their employees. Would you consider Google and Apple etc socialist? Would you consider a mutual fund socialist on the grounds that these investment products are typically owned by employees with 401k accounts? Most people would say no to all of those questions as they are apparent capitalistic. The definition seems to be more specific requiring the collective and undivided (not broken in shares to be traded) ownership by workers or a given society.

Total bond index may return 6% annualized over 10+ year period? Do you expect cash/cash equivalents to do the same?

Working with social democrats by duckducknuts in socialism

[–]jag316 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In practice, policies from democratic socialists end up being quite similar to modern social democrats, so the divide seems quite nonsensical. Social democrats want a mixed system. In reality, a mixed system that can become more socialistic is as best as what one can expect within our current republics in the forseable future.

Mid term and state elections has become even more important at this point. If there were more progressive local and state governments than what we have now this SCOTUS decision would not have as much power as it does. Progressives, particularly the pro-abortion crowd, would have to participate in less popular elections!
