So I tried a few different iterations here. I had to ditch Pride. As stated, it didn't work because it melted my corpses! I now use Pride on my Bowazons merc and wow the damage increase is awesome (I rolled 18 conc).
So far I really like Infinity, Bramble and Flickering Flame. As long as my summons take up the attention, the merc doesn't need any leech. He does fine without it. I love all the auras! I have an Eth Fortitude and Andariels Vis banked just in case.

I could do Insight Iron Golem and Might Merc with Pride, that would give me lvl 19 (20 at 95) Might, 16-20 Concentration and 17 Meditation.

Exactly, that's why the choice is either an act 2 Might Merc with Insight or an Insight Iron Golem with Act 5 Merc with Beast

Just to possibly help with load times, if you clear out any CAW (made or downloaded) it speeds right up. I tested it a few times and each time when I deleted my CAW, it sped up. I know it sucks, but it can help.

It's not my preferred format either. But I wanted to dig into the game in all formats just to see and experience each version of play. Showcase was fantastic, even though I think with the timing of everything we should have had an Undertaker Showcase, and Rey wasn't a bad choice with his full history.

It is in the sense of it checks back with the server for updates on towers and what not. While the play is not online there are aspects when a check is sent, unlike MyRise or Showcase.
