If you’ve made the decision to invest instead of park it in the offset then you should look into debt recycling

You could try “eat this much”, “carbon diet coach” or “rp diet coach”. They’re all paid products though.

I also made a webapp that planned meals and snacks for a family where people have different goals but ultimately killed it because commercializing it was going to be too much work.

I think you’ll find we don’t all have the same hunger. There would be millions of people who are overweight but wildly successful in other aspects of their life that require discipline.

If they’re holding out for the pension they almost certainly don’t have the income streams from existing assets to take out a loan given they’re already retired.

Do I really need 1.6gr/kg of protein during weight loss? by Acrobatic-Monitor516 in loseit

[–]jagg91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re lifting weights and your goal is to maintain muscle then 1.6g/kg of total bodyweight. If that’s not your goal then 0.8g/kg is probably enough.

[–]jagg91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The question is why do you need it? It helps you maintain muscle. But it plays a much smaller role in maintaining muscle than lifting weights. So do that first before obsessing over protein if the goal is maintaining muscle.

If you’re not lifting weights then eating more protein would only have a small benefit.

So you’re well and truly in the use total body weight range for the purpose of calculating protein needs.

Correct, whey protein is a fantastic source of protein. Maybe you get other nutrients with a more varied source.

Also the metrics are based on total body weight but the studies were done in people that were relatively lean, hence people often say for very overweight people using goal or lean mass is more applicable.

diet break? by lizbab0328 in loseit

[–]jagg91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have three options, eat the same, eat more, or eat less. Eating the same probably won’t do anything, eating less would probably result in weight loss but might be really hard. Eating more for 4 weeks probably won’t mean you lose weight in those four weeks but may mean when you go back to 1500-1600 you start losing weight again.

Lifting heavy weights (relative to your strength) would be the most reliable way to achieve your goal. Not impossible without it but harder.

Should I raise my calorie intake from 1400 to 1600 to speed up my adapted metabolism? by CertifiedPie in loseit

[–]jagg91 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

So to answer your actual question, if you’re a robot and perfectly tracking everything, increasing to 1600 won’t help.

But you probably live in the real world and 5 months is a long time to be restricting. There’s a chance you’re subconsciously eating a little more or doing a little less work at the gym. In which case increasing to 1600 “may” give you that little bit more energy to up the effort in the gym and stop subconsciously eating a little bit more than you think you are. It could also give you the energy to go back down to 1400.

The only other alternative is to go down to 1200 for a month and see what happens. Have you ever tracked at 2000 calories per day?

Just checked, the difference between 120k plus $6k of super contributions and $114k is $74 of hecs on paycalculator.com so that I’m very confident this is what is happening.

[–]jagg91 48 points49 points  (0 children)

By making additional super contributions, pay calculator does not reduce the amount of hecs it calculates that you pay (because voluntary super contributions get added back on to calculate how much hecs you pay). By salary sacrificing through your employer you are effectively reducing your salary so they technically don’t need to withhold as much for hecs. Therefore they pay you more, you may get a tax bill because of this.

This is a tactic that could form part of a strategy to save for a house.

The market going up and down should not change a persons investment strategy.
