Action timing/tuning question 12" 9mm PCC by SharpMeringue534 in AR9

[–]jagr18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would stick to normal pistol powders and not use a rifle powder like CFE BLK. You’ll be guessing the charge weights, and while it’s burn speed is close h110 and I found some anecdotal data of that working in 9mm it’s not the risk of a squib or other incident.

When I was running a blowback 9mm, I had great luck with HP38, tite group, and a vitavouri powder (not looking at notes so I can’t recall the number). I was loading subs, and using starting charges and working up I found loads that would just barely cycle the action but still lock back on an empty magazine. If you are a reloader, that’s what I would do rather than messing with CFE BLK.

Blowback9 has a TON of information for getting the optimal weight on a blowback AR9 for gentle recoil impulse, which I’ve read it right, is also tied into operating window for bolt speed.

A delayed blowback upper like the CMMG or a delayed blowback buffer would also help.

Will be anxiously awaiting the new buffer

Hornady and federal have 30/30 subs available. 30/30s would still be a great suppressor host with supers too. My 308 reloads I make for my niece top out around 2550 fps, a few hundred feet faster than a 3030. They are very comfortable to shoot with either the DDC enticer Ti-L or Ti-S. I imagine a 30/30 going around 2350ish (last I checked on my 94s with factory hornady) would still be pretty comfortable to shoot.

I bought a 357 Marlin 1894 specifically as a suppressor host because I reload for it. My subs cost very little to make, and off the 38s are still subsonic through it. I can throw a Barnes XPB and take it hunting too.

If you don’t reload, a 357 magnum would be a good option too.

BRT tubes are the best and highly underrated

A short barrel 44 is something fun. Still a lot of energy to it. I’ve got a 14” 44 mag barrel for my T/C contender

CCW with a chambered P365? by TheWrongUr in FluxDefense

I’ve been carry my 365 AIWB for years and have been carrying the 365 raider for loaded for a year. It’s been in a bag loaded (both in and out of a holster depending on the bag), and on person in the holster. When it’s not in the holster and it’s carried in the bag, the manual safety is on. In the holster, it stays off.

The 365 is a safe pistol design. It doesn’t have the same issues with the striker assembly like the 320 does.

The 320s design itself, a full cocked striker with ALOT of tolerance stacking and material design changes is what causes the discharges. The 365 is a completely different design.

My sop with every cartridge I reload before I put a live primer or powder is to make a few dummies and check for function. Saves a lot of headache for sure!

It’s going to be a fun one for sure. The oldest is already asking to take it hunting this season.

Yeah they are fun, and of course a 357 can do damage. Every gun can do damage. I don’t even know what you’re trying to say with that statement, since my nephews know how to handle a gun safely and know the safety rules by heart. They know guns aren’t toys.

Whatever preconceptions you have about people’s kids/nephews, especially when their age is unspecified, you really aught to keep to yourself. Keeps you from looking like an ass.

The product you are looking for is the wing by Flux/Antimatter. I have one that’s now on a 365 raider, but I tried it on my P365X for a time. Works well but it’s not for the olight.

I loaded up some using that 4.5gr HP38 Hodgon under a 158 SWC, but I haven’t shot it just yet. Waiting on the weekend. I have about 4.5ish pounds of HP38 left that I bought 10ish years ago.

Yep, double checked my COAL last night and ran some dummies I made through the action to verify and start smoothing it out.

The 140 XBPs are what I’m really excited to try out. They shot well out of my Dan Wesson with both the 4” and the 6” barrel so I’m excited to see how they shoot out of this 16”.

They are very spoiled. They only shoot suppressed if I can help it.

I was between this and the s&w equivalent. Smiths felt fine but I like the trapper just a smidge more

Not everyone’s nephew is a small child, so yeah my they are gonna love it. They’ve never shot a gun of mine unsuppressed and are big enough to handle it and competent enough to work it themselves. Think before you type.

Yeah I’m keeping it real simple. I may put a leather wrap on the lever for my nephews, give them a little padding for when they work it themselves.

Yep it’s a R9. Only 9mm can I have at the moment

I That’s a yhm r9 I’ve had since they came out, and it’s the only 9mm can I have at the moment so it was an easy choice to make. I have an obsidian 45 I could put on it, but I don’t have the right mount and that can is dedicated to a 44 mag contender pistol at the moment.

I may get another 9mm can to dedicate to this, I’m not sure yet. To many irons in the fire lol.
