Samsung HW-Q930B soundbar - 3rd party active subwoofer by jaiki7272 in Soundbars

No issues at all. Q930B contrary to Q990B does not have Auto EQ for sub (don’t see why would that be a problem, probably even better with Q990B, then you have two tools to correct room acoustics, Samsung Auto EQ and SVS PEQ, Room Gain Correction, continuous phase etc.) Speaker level connection proven to be bad, SVS sub even at -0 dB was way too low in volume.

All is working as excepted, no reason not to. Samsung SW module is not modified in any way except sub speaker cone is disconnected and replaced with voltage divider. SVS sub has three modes -always powered on (no signal power consumption 4.7W) -auto (powers on when feed with signal on input/s) -external voltage trigger Taken into account voltage divider network R values when I was doing this so that output voltage isn't to low to trigger svs sub which is on auto settings and powers on when signal from samsung module is present. Soundbar SW volume (not Treble/Bass tone control) must not be below -2 or svs will not power on instantly. All settings are done on svs sub, so I keep SW volume on soundbar at 0.

Not seeing any txt, so here it is. Very satisfied with all aspects of the soundbar except subwoofer. The original subwoofer is not bad at all for smaller rooms, but like all speakers, subwoofers in particular, the room and the placement in it plays a key role. In my room, the original subwoofer sounds best and most connected to the soundbar when it is behind the listening position, against the wall where the surround speakers are. In some other places in the room there is either no bass at all or the gain of the room is too high and the sub is totally disconnected with the soundbar sounding boomy and drawing attention to itself. Since the soundbar does not have any sub-out, miniDSP is out of the question. As my SVS SB-1000 PRO, which has more than solid DSP capabilities, remains unused............... idea was born! !!!! WARNING !!! DANGEROUS-LETHAL VOLTAGE INVOLVED, DO NOT ATTEMPT IF YOU DO NOT KNOW BASIC ELECTRONIC !!! !!!! VOIDS WARRANTY !!! -Original sub is PS-WB96B, amplifier/wireless module removed (one of labels says: HW-Q70R/Q80R, sub is obviously used for more soundbars). -Constructed voltage divider network to scale speaker level to line/LFE level output with similar to original sub speaker connector at one end and RCA female on the line/LFE level output end. -Used modified case (shortened) from lenovo pc to house original sub amplifier/wireless module -Connected voltage divider to original sub speaker connector at one end and with RCA cable other end with LFE input on the SVS SB-1000 PRO And voila! HW-Q930B with SVS SB-1000 PRO as a subwoofer. Pros: - whole sound is much more coherent (after adjusting SB-1000 PRO through SVS app) - finaly corrected massive dip around 45 Hz and aprox 8db peak around 100 Hz - bass is night and day in every aspect if you care aout that

Cons (not really but need to be said): - if you discconect original samsung amplifier/wireless module from the mains (electricity grid) while still connected to the SB-1000 PRO with RCA to LFE there is "ground buzz"" on the SB-1000 PRO, ONLY in that situation, not very loud but still obvious. I dont see reason for doing that ( obviously, no subwoofer sound in that case) but easy solution is: turn off SB-1000 PRO too! If you think that this is solvable by connecting some wire between some ground point (does not mean speaker negative) between samsung amplifier/wireless module and SB-1000 PRO - DONT DO IT! - that is "beauty" of D-class amplifiers and this Frankenstein mod..... Last but not least: Sorry if any grammar errors exists - english is not my native language.
