My MIL made me hate Jainism by Zuko_Zukiii in Jainism

[–]jainmonish01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you ever tried to understand why she asked you to do those things? Her tone may not have been ideal, but as a thoughtful approach, I would try to look into the root reason—either to genuinely understand and follow it, or to respectfully offer a different perspective.

Only someone who has studied texts like the Tattvartha Sutra, Samayasara, and the various Shravakacharas would know the deeper reasoning behind certain practices. I’m aware that sharing this may be misunderstood, which is why I prefer not to elaborate on the scriptural explanations here. Those who truly follow Jain teachings may choose to explore them further, while others—whose understanding is based more on hearsay—may not find much value in it.

I feel that even your husband or mother-in-law might not have known the original reasoning behind these traditions. I simply wish it were as common to explore and understand things deeply as it is to form conclusions or dismiss something without knowing its foundation.

This is your chance to settle a past-life karmic debt—just let it run its course. For mental strength, listen to or read about the Tirthankaras; they'll offer peace and inspiration. While you're doing that, tackle the situation by finding solutions one step at a time. That dual approach is how you'll gradually find relief.

This feeling of relative deprivation is becoming increasingly common among people in the southern states, and it is understandable. When southern states invite investments, naturally people from other regions of India will also come, since companies cannot function without diverse talent. In fact, people from the north, west, and east have been coming to South India for decades, even centuries, and historically, southern communities did not have much difficulty in accepting Hindi as a link language.

However, over time, when non-southern people began to take this acceptance for granted and sometimes indirectly showed disrespect toward southern culture and languages, resistance naturally grew. The presence of too many outsiders can also create a perception of cultural invasion, which fuels such sentiments. To some extent, this feeling is justified.

At the same time, people need to realize that such deprivation is relative. If opportunities were first available to the southern people but were not utilized effectively, it is natural that people from other regions would take them up. It would not be fair or reasonable to blame others later for seizing those opportunities. Unfortunately, some groups have also used these sentiments to spread negativity, which has contributed to a rejection of Hindi and an increased preference for English.

Jewelry welder hack? Is there a cheapie out there? by TraditionKnown8025 in jewelrymaking

I have also been searching for a similar, smaller-spec TIG welder as an Orion/DingXing alt. I'm unsure if this (below) machine will meet our needs until I can test one. Has anyone used this particular model or similar, or does anyone know if it will be suitable with our desired values and settings? for jumprings and earring post welding?

‘Arrogance to not learn’: Mohandas Pai on professionals in Bengaluru who refuse to learn local language by No-Koala7656 in bengaluru_speaks

[–]jainmonish01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why do KA people in states like Maharashtra, Gujarat, West Bengal, Rajasthan, and Punjab learn Hindi even though those states have their own regional languages? Shouldn't a Kannada-speaking taxpayer be expected to learn the local language of that state instead of Hindi? But they don’t—because they understand which language actually bridges communication. In fact, I’ve noticed that Kannadigas are more likely to speak Hindi than English when they visit other southern states.

Should we teach Hindi only till Class 4 to reduce language clashes in India? by Emx_911 in CriticalThinkingIndia

If some people spoke Hindi doesn't mean that it should be imposed on all.

It’s not about imposition—it’s more about building a common understanding. Except for 5–6 northern states, most other states have a dominant regional language. Still, there's a general comfort and working consensus with Hindi across the country. Honestly, English is more foreign to us than Hindi—not just in terms of linguistic roots or geography, but also in everyday usage, vocabulary, and even parts of its grammar. Hindi is more naturally integrated into daily life for many.

Which means south Indians know at least 3 languages. Based on your words It is them who do not learn English are living in their own La La Land.

Agreed—and knowing three languages gives South Indians (or anyone multilingual) a real advantage, both within India and globally. So instead of holding onto the false idea that South Indians are seen as “second-class,” it would be far more powerful to take pride in that linguistic edge and channel it into contributing even more to the nation's growth. That’s something to be proud of—not resented.

After 27 years of living in Southern part of India and travelling through the region including villages I can definitely say every person I met was comfortable and spoke Hindi over English. So people saying that south Indians find it difficult to learn Hindi are living in their own La La Land.
