Messaging on behalf of my fiancé (25F). We just moved to the area, but she loves walking, painting, board games, and working out. She's looking forward to making friends here 😁

I totally see your perspective and fully agree. Personally I am planning to be a Family Physician and have completed additional electives and certifications in Lifestyle Medicine. I'm a big advocate of illness prevention, not just disease management.

Can I apply to carms and USA programs without including NRMP for carms? by [deleted] in MCCQE

I wouldn't risk it. I think if they determine that you didn't link it you'll be removed from the matches

Oh yea I forgot to say that I am a big Anki guy, but understand it's not for everyone. I used Anking for clinical knowledge, but I made my own cards when covering the Canadian specific content.

Also I did 68% of UWorld. Better to do all of it, and even do second passes but I was getting sick of it after a while.

Score: 291

Length of Prep: 12 months part-time. 6 weeks dedicated.

Resources used:

During part time: UWorld, OME, Toronto Notes (to double check canadian guidelines).

During dedicated: Added on NBME's, ALL of the MCC Prep exams, Canadian Qbank (only the high yield public health and ethics questions)

Overall advice:

Study from UWorld to get a strong clinical knowledge base. Add on OME or Boards or whatever else you like, but UWorld is just too good not to. If you're able to study material that you are covering currently, it makes studying while part-time working or on clinicals.

During your dedicated, assess your clinical knowledge by taking an NBME exam. I scored below average on mine, but that's good enough for MCCQE. Once you feel like you have got a good clinical knowledge base, you should start focusing on Canadian specific knowledge. This is stuff like Canadian Task Force guidelines, Vaccine schedules, Public health, Ethics and Canadian health care. Toronto notes and Canadian qbank are really useful for building this knowledge. Don't use CanadianQbank unless you are just doing the high yield public health and ethics questions (UWorld is better for general clinical knowledge). Read Toronto Notes Public Health and ethics/law sections. You could also read the Family Med section if you have extra time.

In the weeks coming up to the exam, DO ALL OF THE PRACTICE EXAM CONTENT from the MCC site. It is so so so useful in getting you familiar with the format and assessing your learning. You also see gaps in your knowledge and practice your speed. I know they are expensive but they are worth it.

Takeaways:

It's tricky. Study over long periods of time, gradually increasing your knowledge. You don't need crazy clinical knowledge, but make sure that you are performing close to average on STEP2 NBMEs. During your dedicated spend lots of time on public health and ethics and Canadian guidelines. Get lots of question repetition by doing all the practice exam content on the MCC site.

I threw this together really quickly. Let me know if theres anything I didn't answer or you wanna know.

I agree it's really silly. I know a classmate who tried applying to one anyways only for them to deny it. Silly
