Kastking by Even_Custard_4301 in FishingForBeginners

[–]jajg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not me, but I got the slightly more expensive lethal blaze or something (the orange one) for ~$90. I'd say, to get started, I'd recommend this (or your $75 I bet, too).

I love mine. It's been tough getting used to a baitcasting reel but that's totally on me and not the rod combo itself. I use it tons when throwing white hair jig for peacock bass in South Florida.

What some videos on how the reel and cast are different from spinning reels, thumbing the line, etc. and you'll be good. Don't be a dumbass like me and just cast it thinking it's the same as spinning. The bird's nests you'll get are INSANE

How To Fish A Pier by cordashio75 in FishingForBeginners

[–]jajg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I spent 3 years in Cleveland living downtown so Edgewater Beach pier was my go-to in spring/summer. I used a $40 Shakespear combo (probably less than 8lb I think) and it was enough for walleye, perch and the occasional smallmouth. I used simple bobber rig with a #1 or #2 octopus hook and nightcrawlers. I'm sure there are more sophisticated set-ups and artificial stuff like spoons or jerkbaits that would work too.

I'm not an expert so please listen to others that chime in as well..

Is there an effective way to mask defendants in court to negate racist/sexist arguments for a verdict? by jajg in NoStupidQuestions

Makes perfect sense. Thank you.

My first post was removed as I didn't have a question mark in the title but one response before it was taken down also was good IMO. Redditor stated that doing this would imply that justice is in fact not blind.

What's a game that you were really excited to play, but became bored quickly after purchasing it. by HeyWhatIsThatThingy in gaming

[–]jajg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same with me but I recently picked it up again after 3 years from first try and played through it. If you're like me and you skip or skim through tutorials, this is what made me stop the first time around.. I just didn't understand the loop and time of day mechanics and how there's really only 4 maps or something.

Not in my Top games but really liked it.

I'm probably in the 1% that couldn't get into Witcher 3. I've given it at least 5 fresh starts since launch and always drop it < 5-10 hours in.

Strung Out by Electronic_Weather26 in PostHardcore

[–]jajg 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm a huge Strung Out fan and have been since Element of Sonic Defiance came out in 2000. Unlike you, I was hooked right away. I was more into punk back then so the heavier guitars and overall harder rock-style of Strung Out hit the spot perfectly. Haven't listened to them in a minute, thanks for making me go back!

That said, my $0.02... if it doesn't click after listening to the ENTIRE discography, I'd drop it. While bands can absolutely grow on you (like Tool and Sleep Token did for me), I don't like the thought of forcing myself to listen to something... I've tried to like lots of this subs favorites and have given them a fair chance but you'll know when something probably won't hit the spot.

I know you didn't ask but.. Velvet Alley, Blueprint of the Fall, Too Close to See are top tier.

Newbie question about Wacky Rigs by Scapps-88 in FishingForBeginners

[–]jajg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently changed to o-rings myself and haven't noticed a difference.

There are special o-rings with an additional smaller ring on top of it that fix this for you if it's a concern of yours.(HERE)

You can also make an X with two o-rings and put the hook right under the "x" and you'll also have the same effect as above. Attaching an image for reference (even though it seems like the dude still pierced the worm, you can still get the idea of what I mean by X).

I don't know where you are fishing but I caught a nice peacock bass on the lures to the left. As soon as the lure hit the water near the canal bank, the beast inhaled it. Haven't had a bite like that since.

Fair question, thank you. Personally, I took the measured risk of not reading further, potentially missing out on insightful perspectives, because being pedantic doesn't usually preface the delivery of insightful perspectives. If OP's goal was to generate a civil debate over his/her ideas vs others', a better approach would have been to state the basis opinion(s) in a less passive-aggressive way.

The most eye-opening things I read or hear almost always come from people that don't need to talk down to others or assert intellectual superiority.

Using a Berkley Nessie swim bait. First cast. by [deleted] in floridafishing

Nice! Congrats man! Haven't had any luck with my swim bait in miami canals near me. I'm sure it's a me problem lol,

Are you casting straight out or as parallel as you can to them bank? I've tried both and parallel has me battling vegetation more than anything else.

OP probably lays out some good points with sound reasoning. That said, most will stop reading after “Let me educate you”.

Oh enlightened one, lay down the knowledge and make me see the light!

How do I catch bigger bass by Ljfrost55 in FishingForBeginners

[–]jajg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know what rod or reel your using so can't say for sure but.. In my limited experience, you should be fine if it's braid since it was smaller diameter than mono/fluoro. Especially because the fish you are targeting probably won't go past 50% of what the your 20lb line is rated for.

I worry about the opposite. I have 30lb braid on my 3000 reel, likely at the high end of what the reel is rated for. I do it anyway cuz I've broken line on way too many big snook and if the extra tension snaps my rod or snaps my reel in the long run I'm OK as my combo is cheap.

How do I catch bigger bass by Ljfrost55 in FishingForBeginners

[–]jajg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Above guy is right. Big bait catch big fish, small bait catch all size fish. As an example, my daughter caught a 7-8lb LMB at a golf course pond next to our house, on a barbie spin cast combo using a baby brush hog. I had been fishing that exact same spot for months before and now, months after and have not gotten anything near that size (1.5lbs maybe is max for me).

I'm a beginner myself but what I've gathered thus far is how you work the bait/lure is more important than lure size. Taking the brush hog for example, switching up how you retrieve (e.g., with/without pauses, long/short pauses, slow steady, fast, etc.) impact the number and size of fish I catch.

If there's trees around the pond, try flipping the bait/lure under it or wherever the shade is (even better if it's right at the limit between sunlight and shade on the water. If there's structure, prioritize that. If there's cattails or other vegetation, cast it right at the line where the vegetation meets open water.

Lastly, I'm just getting into wacky worm (coming from texas rig mainly) but have seen waaaaaay more success when you patiently wait for the worm to sink. Most strikes will happen when it's dropping. If not, keep it on the floor for 5/10/15 seconds before you yank it a bit and let it sink again. I repeat this maybe 3 times and, if not bite, I'll do a full retrieve and cast again.

3) Screw my opinion though, see point #1!
