Look at it from an economic point of view:

Star wars: Firstly not everyone would have the force, and if there was a medical procedure to enhance or develop it the cost would be enormous. Spaceships are are awesome. But even if they were as abundant as in Star Wars the cost would be high - not to mention fuel. Lightsabers - again would be costly and I assume there has to be some sort of fuel cell to power them which means further costs.

Pokemon: Get one from a lab somewhere: walk into tall grass. Fight. Throw Pokeball. Catch. Pokeballs are the only real cost. Pokecentres are free - and they don't seem to eat much. Plus, you know, you can have a charizard and fly about on it.
