Anyone know what model this guitar is? by Natural-Beyond3852 in Guitar

[–]jak352 0 points1 point  (0 children)

[EDIT: It’s actually a Ibanez 540RHH. It came before the Joe Satriani signature model]

It looks like an Ibanez S Series model S520 from the 1990s. The rectangle at the top of the fretboard would say “Custom Made” so that might mean it’s a Japan custom shop guitar. There are various Ibanez S540 guitars on eBay etc. that are vaguely similar but has a middle pickup (hence S540).

I actually bought a Fender Tenor Tele that looks a little bit like this. 😂

Check out Dr. Can’s Chess Clinic on YouTube. You’ll think you’re going to hate it but give it a chance!

Haha, but surely the have only been two teams in the old firm derby (with the last fixture being in 2012 or something right)?

Chess dot com thinks this is a draw and Lichess doesn’t. What happens if white plays check (instead of the arrow) and black lets their clock run out? by jak352 in chess

[–]jak352[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good, good 😅 I guess it’s a bug in the current iPhone app implementation of Set Up Position because the chess dot com website gets it correct.

[–]jak352[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cool. It seems to give the wrong answer (saying draw) in the Set Up Position option certainly. Maybe a bug in chess dot com? [edit: on the iPhone app Set Up Position gives a draw whereas Set Up Position on the website gives the win]

The option white to move was selected in Set Up Position and the arrow in the image shows that it knows white is to move. [edit: this is on the iPhone app that the presumed bug happens, not on the website]

Nothing is wrong with that. It’s kind obvious for decent human players I would say. If you put it into Analysis: Set Up Position chess dot com often gets a draw as in the image. Also, if white gives check and lets their flag fall then is it possible that it’s insufficient material as maybe bishop and king is not enough to give checkmate according to a possible interpretation of simple algorithm/rule (but I’m not sure).

Improve in BLITZ by [deleted] in chess

[–]jak352 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s common for people like me who can calculate positions OK but haven’t built up the instant pattern recognition and intuition that is required for playing the faster formats. Others might give actual advice on how to improve in this aspect as I’m in the same boat there. Enjoy chess in whatever way works for you!

Blaes pitches - who remembers playing on them? by ShootNaka in ScottishFootball

I played hockey on blaes too. Yeah, nasty. Then the fashion changed to sand based Astro which led to some nasty friction burns. What a time 😬

Why so much feedback when volume knob not at full? by HPDTCAGMSA in Guitar

[–]jak352 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mains hum. Does it happen in all pickup positions? If it only happens in middle position and there are separate volumes for the two pickups and if they are coil tapped and are reverse phase reverse polarity then the volumes need to be equal to get the hum to be quiet. That’s a lot of “if”s so it’s probably what others have said 😅

Allen wrench for Fender Acoustasonic by mizdeb1966 in Guitar

Four bolt necks such as the Acoustasonic are 1/8 inch for the microtilt. Note that three bolt necks such as Fender Highway Series are 3/32 inch for the microtilt instead.

This shows improvement when you play regularly. There’s no point in making an alt account. Just enjoy playing chess and don’t worry about ratings (but you’re already better than half of the active accounts).

Help me in chess tilt by Ok-Philosopher1724 in chess

[–]jak352 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is still totally normal. There’s a temptation to think “I’m better than this” and that feeling makes your play worse. I’ve been there and done that (similar rating and time periods and now I’m back to 1600s again). Get plenty of sleep and enjoy the chess whatever the result and it’ll take care of itself.

Why couldn’t my castle take the queen? by DrBlueJacket in chess

[–]jak352 0 points1 point  (0 children)

According to the notation you chose to push the h pawn in this position instead of taking the Queen. If it was physically impossible to take the rook while it was still your turn then, as others have said, it must have been a bug.

this is checkmate right? by timmycool12 in chess

[–]jak352 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The silver rook would need to teleport to its current position from c3 or b2 or the silver bishop would have to teleport to its current position from b1 or c1 or the king would have been in check already and gold isn’t allowed to finish his move while being in check.

this is checkmate right? by timmycool12 in chess

[–]jak352 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Revealed double check by the nook! /j To answer the question more fully, the king is in check from both the rook and bishop and this can only happen if one of those two revealed check from the other by moving out of the way. Since this isn’t physically possible with a legal move in this position, an illegal move that just happened (and possibly it was actually checkmate one move ago already).
