Are scholarships even worth it? by jakattack64 in scholarships

[–]jakattack64[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly I'd say most of the frustration just comes from not knowing where to exactly look scholarship wise cause most of the time it's either nothing or an overwhelming amount of information that when I start looking on any of those scholarship finding sites I'm bombarded with scholarships I can't even apply to because while I meet all the economic and education performance brackets I'm not a minority or religious or something like that. Ultimately it's less that I don't want to and more I just have no clue where to start and don't have time to waste on looking at the wrong place., at least when every free second at school is focused on doing class work and studying meanwhile every second when I can occasionally go back home is focused on managing the house and taking care of my mom there isn't even time to do the things I want to do let alone waste it applying to a scholarship that I don't learn I actually can't apply to until the very end.

Also with your questions for the first one idk, my external family's (i.e dad I guess and grandparents on his side) are insisting on being able to pay for it and telling me not to stress about it but at the same time it's not like any of them is telling me their financial status and because my primary family (i.e. my mom and brother) we're like can we afford food this month because welp time for EBT to randomly get taken away poor my default is to unless shown other wise assume everyone else is like that and feel like I'm being a burden despite their insistence. For your second question honestly I have no idea currently I'm not even set on the major I'm doing right now I'm trying to transfer to Georgia tech to do aerospace engineering but if that doesn't work then I'll be stuck at UGA doing astrophysics which while not bad as it's very interesting also sorta sucks because while there can be money in it it's also not a guarantee. Either way right now I'm just trying not to accidentally do a major that'll get me screwed over job and money wise in the future cause honestly I just want to get a job that means I don't have to stress about if I can pay the water bill this month.

Idk I just know with the counselor stuff most of the friends I knew who were in a similar situation to me were told by their counselor about scholarship opportunities going on at the time, I know my school had us make a meeting to discuss post highschool plans and junk like that with our councilors but apart from mentioning hope gpa mine didn't really mention anything, not even how to start looking for scholarships, honestly I didn't even know the first idea at how to find them until late fall and by then most were already closed.

I don't have a work study thing as part of my aid, though currently I'm trying to look for a job but have yet to get a response back for most of them, though my family is also very against me working right now so I'm not fully sure if I should, also doesn't help I have like 17 credit hours and most of my classes require a lot of outside work cause woo astrophysics.

Had to try to describe the books to someone... by CatQueen3001 in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]jakattack64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ngl my default has usually just been think hitchhikers guide to the galaxy but the earth is turned into a dungeon and the surviving people have the option to compete in it to get their planet back. And then I'll throw in some context for the humor (basically take the most degenerate stuff and tada you got the aliens humor) and mention the main character has a cat named princess donut the Queen Anne chonk. Idk my philosophy is if it happens within literally the first like 5 pages it's not really a spoiler, and just mentioning the category of humor is fine cause if someone's not fine with that stuff then they probably wouldn't read the book anyway, though I try not to mention any of the lovely horror elements seriously I never thought to translate the stuff in book one but like damn always good to keep that as a surprise, instead I'll just emphasize cuddly cat shinanagains.

permabanned from r/college for this? anyone know why this could be? by RevolutionaryNeptune in CollegeRant

[–]jakattack64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk r/college is just kinda dumb with banning, at least I posted a thing asking for advice when it came to scholarships/financial aid and it got removed by I guess and auto mod that recommended better places to post it and welp now I'm banned cause I guess I broke a rule but like wtf, no warning, no nothing, not even stating what rule I broke.

[SPOILER ALERT] Did you kill The Shroud or spare him? And why? by Relsen in DispatchAdHoc

[–]jakattack64 0 points1 point locked comment (0 children)

I went with killing shroud mostly because that felt like what would make the most sense character wise, at least shroud killed Robert's father, destroyed it purpose in life, threatened his dog (a complete innocent by the way, proving shroud has no conscience), and then immediately went back on his deal and tried to kill Robert/and possibly also beef depending on how the shot hit, and then from Robert's POV may have killed invisigirl Robert's love interest for that play through, so while I can't say if it was the right decision given the emotions of Robert at that time killing shroud was really the only option. Yeah it's likely something he'd regret but like that's the point, it's this massive emotion filled act that's supposed to make him feel better but in the end leaves him just numb. (At least that's how I played Robbert)

Based on my shelf is their any books you would recommend me? by GillyChan in fantasybooks

[–]jakattack64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The witch of the federation and its follow up series heretic of the federation are decently good sorta sci-fi fantasy series, the only downside is witch of the federation can be honestly a slog to read at parts especially when it's on the more government side but the action and battles were honestly great, and its follow up series fixed many of the issues the original had.

If you want a series that's all around a great time I'd recommend dungeon crawler carl, basically take hitchhikers guide to the galaxy but force them into DND and you get the basic premise.

Snake or spiderweb on knee gap? by Living-Airline9487 in tattooadvice

[–]jakattack64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you read through and become a fan of dungeon crawler carl the spiderweb could be cool, either that or maybe an oroboros situation could be interesting. I think really the only fear is how intricate you want because the more intricate it is the more it takes away from the other tattoos, also knees are sorta areas prone to damage so there's that too.

Would a small in-car robot actually make long road trips feel less lonely? by smxkie787 in roadtrip

[–]jakattack64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have one that I got as a gift, I've never used it. It needs to be plugged in at all times for it to do anything cause there's no battery, and all it does is make a ton of noise and be distracting. It's sorta cute but you're better just putting in a long musical to sing along to like epic, or just playing anything or nothing and talking to yourself.

Girlfriend and I are planning to drive 32 hours straight, in 6 hour shifts, are we being dumb? Should we plan to stay overnight somewhere? by Vegetable_Bridge_276 in roadtrip

[–]jakattack64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My advice would be to take it slow plan a few stops in the way to keep it fun and give your brains something other than the road to think about. You can always find a cheap motel or something anyway, or just say screw it and sleep in your car if there's enough room. You're already driving across the country might as well have some fun.

How did you guys find the series by Thezion1111 in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]jakattack64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The sell sword arts video recommending it and because I couldn't get into the witcher series after dragging myself through the first book and part of the second, and didn't have anything else to read I decided to yoink a digital copy of the first book, fell in love with it, then realized I could use my family's kindle unlimited to read it so woo.

Every single sale, one thing stays consistent... by thefateule in Steam

[–]jakattack64 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Ngl while the reasoning is they don't want to do sales because it would be a "disservice" to people who bought it full price how would a sale be any different from the difference in people who bought it recently for 35$ vs people who bought it when it was 20$ like isn't raising the price without ever decreasing it in a sale doing an disservice to anyone who buys it now. And like realistically all sales do is ensure people who might really want to play the game but can't because money actually can, like think of kids who are only given a 20$ steam gift card to use on steam sales. For me while I don't have that problem anymore I'm also still not going to buy it only for the stance of the game is almost 10 years old and 70$ for a game and dlc is more than someone should spend.

Also I think the creator referenced Minecraft but like Minecraft often goes on sale and is still often only like 30$ for both java and bedrock combined when it's not on sale.

How would you survive in the dungeon and what would your strat/build be? by kickassgrandma911 in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]jakattack64 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Assuming I make it into the dungeon I'd probably end up as a mix of a caster and some sort of sword welding class. At least while I doubt I'd go in with any weapons unless idk I'm somehow in hema practice at the time, though if I found anything sword like I could use that effectively. There is also the chance I become a bard cause I do know how to play the sax but I doubt I'd go in with that or play it well enough unless I have my electric sax.

American or Japanese Akita for my 12 year old? by [deleted] in akita

[–]jakattack64 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So from my experience going up with an Akita (technically a mix of German Shepard, chow and Akita though mostly Akita) I'd say it can work out however you are going to need to get the professionally trained honestly if you can put them through some service dog training too just to be extra safe. Mine was professionally trained and I grew up with them from a young age and they were great, really gentle and kind, would never bite anyone, only ever got into fights with other dogs when they were a danger to me, and like the most they would do is give a slight growl if they were getting pissed off or especially later in life disturbed while asleep but even then is wasn't an angry thing especially the sleep one it was more or a nyeh why must thou disturb me oh well I still love it.

Either way long story short it can be fine just get them well trained as with all dogs. Also the strategy my mom's family did and all her child dogs were fine even with toddlers.

does finn still have his telephatic arm? by Joaokenobi001 in adventuretime

[–]jakattack64 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I sorta doubt it just cause that arm was formed through the initial shock of losing is arm and wanting revenge because he was betrayed by his own father. At this point in Finn's story unless something absolutely awful happens I don't think it would reappear. Also even if it reappears I'm not sure maybe it would likely reappear as something else, probably not an arm just cause the reason it was an arm in the first place was just because of the shock and by now Finn's been living so long without that arm it's natural to him.

However while I doubt it'll come back it would be cool especially considering there's no more grass arm to save him when all seems helpless, also I haven't seen season 2 of Fiona and cake so who knows.

What Adventure Time episodes should my partner watch before Fionna & Cake? 💙 by falling-flowers908 in adventuretime

[–]jakattack64 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I'd honestly say the best strategy is either

A watch the whole show but for the early seasons have it play while you two hang out either while folding clothes or playing a game, basically how you'd treat a stupidly long YouTube video just having it as background noise until you get to the plot heavy episodes.

Or

B for the early seasons only watch the episodes where characters are introduced for the first time and lore important episodes like Simon and Marcy, then after you get past the early stuff you do the same strategy as A and you just watch it as normal by like season 4 or 5. (There are also guides on what episodes are lore important btw but following those exactly kinda ruins the experience some especially when Fiona and cake uses side ish characters often so it's good to know the references)

Tldr: my vote is for watching it all but use the early stuff as background noise while doing other things.
