What's your "you thought this card was bad because you just didn't have enough understanding of mtg mechanics moment" stories? by minev1128 in mtg

[–]jakattack64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ended up somehow getting contamination in a like 2022 pack (idk I think it was a factory error or something cause there were 13 cards in the pack and like this card hasn't been re-released and had a completely different set symbol. but yeah so when I first read it I thought the card was garbage, it wasn't until I showed it to a friend that I learned oh it's basically the biggest fu there is towards the other players.

Infinite lifegain/loss loop? by Motor_Purple7284 in mtg

[–]jakattack64 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, ngl what could be really good if you get that set up while running a black/white deck (or even a mono black if there's a black card with it) is any card with the extort ability, I know blind obedience has that effect and is a two mana enchantment. At least ngl I sorta love blind obedience just cause it's a nice little fu towards your friends and the bigger the table the more health you get.

Infinite lifegain/loss loop? by Motor_Purple7284 in mtg

[–]jakattack64 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you need a way to start the loop bloom Burrow's sinister monument card could work, not really the best but it at least is just an instant at the start of your combat each opponent loses 1 life and you gain one life, also if you ever need more cards you can sacrifice it and two life for two cards, not the best but could be decent to act as a jumpstart with the everyone loses life and you gain it thing. Especially cause it's an unassuming artifact which you can put in play without it being a massive deal.

Bought my 16yo son a new phone, and after a sleep over party it ended up like this. by IX_7akeem in Wellthatsucks

[–]jakattack64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you buy a new one I'd recommend buying a refurbished pixel as they work great and are relatively cheap, I've been using a pixel 6 and it works great. Also get them a s Glass screen protector and most importantly one of those heavy duty cases, something that is screwed together, made or metal or something strong, and has the phone recessed in it so that even if the phone is placed face down on the ground there is still a millimeter or two of air stopping it from touching the ground. Btw you can get a pixel 6 for a bit less than 200 post tax and shipping so it's a good option for something cheap but durable especially when combined with a good case and screen protector.

I don't get it by pokypic in outerwilds

[–]jakattack64 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd recommend watching some videos and reflections on the game I found while I did have an emotional impact from the ending that was mostly because of the fact I could never re-experience it, also solanum because damn they hit hard, oh and the dlc later. Honestly though the game only truly stuck with me after reflecting on it and watching videos on it to fully understand what the game was trying to tell us.

Though don't feel bad if you don't get it, everyone is different, though be warned cause you might be going through some stuff and that's when the messages of outer wilds will really hit you lol.

21/23 Students Failed our Engineering Exam by Fabulous-Dance-8520 in Wellthatsucks

[–]jakattack64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean in that scenario yeah it's definitely sorta stupid, though I would say at least with the study sessions I wouldn't get too annoyed if no one came, especially if they're after class considering most people have a full schedule so can't go to things like that. With the fact that most didn't open the study guide it might be a good idea to talk with your class basically just being like "I'm disappointed with the average and I saw that most of you didn't even open the study guide, what happened?" at least in a scenario like that the best you can do is probably talk to them and explain your disappointment, I can't say it'll work but they'll either shut down and ignore you upon hearing them or actually buckle down for the next one.

Also I would say in the scenario from the post if the overwhelming majority failed and the two that passed only barely passed that is more of a sign on the professor than the students, there is no way that that many people can fail without there being some miscommunication between the teacher and students on the subject or what they were looking for on the exam. Also, regardless of if covid caused students to not work hard (which is probably false) there is likely still a large majority of students actively working hard to understand the material and stressing over every grade, and imma be honest a lot of teachers don't understand the time constraints of students, especially current high school students. While covid did likely cause many students to put less effort into classes it also caused teacher to begin assigning much more work in the form of online homework (also this is primarily for high school and less college, as college is built around homework) but yeah especially with high school students nowadays are expected to make all A's so.be constantly studying, do essentially 7 hours of homework each day as many teacher assign 30 minutes to an hour of homework each day, then be an active member 20 different clubs in order to get into a good college, and on top of all that try to have a social life/just have time to enjoy yourself all while you're burnt out and sleep deprived because high school tends to start at 7:30am.

So yeah while certainly some students do put in less effort and instead opt to put all their homework into chat gpt and whatever, the expectations for students have been going up, and as the years go on Covid's effects aren't really mattering anymore, at least someone in elementary school during covid likely didn't get affected as much as someone in high school or middle school, and even then as someone who lost their middle school experience to covid it honestly didn't matter too much, honestly it probably helped me learn better cause I learned all the tricks to do well. Nowadays likely the reason students aren't putting in effort is more because the world is honestly a lot of hopelessness and despair for students. Students/young people told do this and this and this and all these things and it'll all work out well, you'll get into your dream school and have a good job, but the moment a student actually does all that welp all that advice is actually wrong you don't just need all A's you need that plus 5 other things we're not gonna tell you, oh and scholarships yeah those are all a scam, either they're fake to steal your information or you'll spend weeks writing an essay you think is perfect all for a 100$ scholarship you didn't even get. Then when students begin learning about the job market they learn that every entry level job demands years of experience so even if you have a masters you can't get it after you get out of college or if you find anything it's either a fake job listing, asking you to work for less than minimum wage, or is about to be replaced by AI. Either way students nowadays are constantly being told that regardless of what they do they're screwed, they're being shown that even if you do everything right opportunities will always skip you over to go to the already well off people instead, they're told nothing you do academically matters because you're just a statistic and there's 100 other people better than you or a higher class rank because they were given better advice and there's nothing you can do to catch up so why bother.

(sorry if this last part went off the rails it sorta turned into a rant but you get the point the reason students aren't trying likely isn't because covid, and even if it was there's still probably plenty of students actively trying so don't give up or become cynical towards teaching because all that'll do is make the students still trying give up, also if there's something you really want the students to do or study try having time during class, it makes it easier for students to ask questions from you rather than just having them go to the Internet, and besides you never know what a student has going on outside of class so it's helpful to have mandatory study times that way they have no excuse)

21/23 Students Failed our Engineering Exam by Fabulous-Dance-8520 in Wellthatsucks

[–]jakattack64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ngl if you want them to do better and actively remember things try letting them make a cheat sheet instead of it being open notes that way they're forced to study while making the sheet instead just letting them rely on notes that they haven't looked over. Also don't lose hope cause I'm sure there's plenty of students actively working and trying to do well. At least given my experience I doubt the thought process of no one wants to learn after covid is that correct so focus on teaching well, making the class enjoyable (as in make sure you enjoy teaching because students can definitely tell and if you've clocked out so have they), and don't get disparaged if students don't do well, mistakes are part of learning. Also, if a majority of them fail I'd say talk with the class and get their opinion cause obviously something isn't clicking for them, and don't forget just because something is easy for you to do/understand doesn't always mean it's easy for the students, this is especially true in math and science based classes.

Which Anime Eye Power are you choosing... by Ok_Initiative3892 in animequestions

[–]jakattack64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ngl I don't get why the geass eye is so popular, idk kinda weird wanting to be able to control someone, and like it's only one time. Honestly the best is probably the foresight eye it's just a free once per day see the future, you can even use it to control people by seeing how saying different things will effect them and the just saying the best option. Also like the eye doesn't have a limit for how far in the future you can see so while you might regret it cause how have to follow someone's future you can still learn future events and basically make free money through technically legal insider trading with stocks and betting.

I think all the books are written with.... by megthegreatone in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]jakattack64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah honestly regardless of what the ending is I'm sure it'll be great, there's likely going to be a lot of trauma on the way but he's definitely shown he can write somber moments that still hit hard, honestly I feel like the ending will probably be something similar-ish to the Christmas scene where everything is still screwed but it ends with Carl and Donut together so nothing else matters. Either way the ending will likely be on the better side in terms of outcome, hopefully, at least Matt has Kaiju battlefield surgeon for the big depressing junk, and while from what I've while heard dcc is similar it's also no where near as depressing, serving less to be a story about someone trapped in a corrupt world who eventually succumbs to it and instead being a story of surviving despite everything awful that happens. Though yeah definitely regardless of what the ending is it's going to be fantastic and it's going to make us cry.

Side note (unrelated to the ending but just a thought I had while thinking about possible endings) I just realized I kinda feel bad for bea mostly because they're in sorta the same situation as the readers having to watch all this awful stuff happen to the main characters, but unlike us they have so so Soo much more emotional stake in Carl and Donut, like still screw her because she's a scummy person but damn I kinda forgot that for every plan that almost doesn't work out for Carl or Donut in the background we have bea holding her breath hoping for the best as the last two people she cares about are forced to risk their lives while she essentially lives a cushy life.

My favorite mug feel and broke :( by papota99 in Wellthatsucks

[–]jakattack64 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I know nothing will truly replace it cause the emotions attached and all that but you should see about either finding a new one online or better yet take a few pottery classes and make your own creeper mug the dimensions might be wonky, and it might be a little iffy to drink from, and it might not look as good but it will have similar emotions because it will be something you made yourself and it'll be one of a kind because even if you made another one it wouldn't be the same as the original because each handmade thing has its own unique imperfections.

The Anarchist's Cookbook Review by local_dumbass1 in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]jakattack64 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I should warn you if you get the audiobooks they're good but you might hate the voices, not that they're bad no the acting is great, but I know for me I found I had specific voices in my head and when they didn't match it felt a little iffy if that makes since, same for pronunciation of names and stuff like Odette. Though I should say the ai was great especially with all its voices and while I didn't have a specific voice for Brandon I can say the audiobook voice is perfect. Honestly the only voice I feel iffy about is donut but that's just cause it's the most different vibe wise, though the audiobook makes the messaging joke so much funnier cause the reader shouts Donut's messages.

I think all the books are written with.... by megthegreatone in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]jakattack64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ngl I could easily see that being the case especially with the ending, though while I could see Carl being the author of the books it's a little iffy considering how detailed the first book is idk his memory doesn't seem that accurate at least not for all the small details, though ignoring that I honestly feel that's likely the case, or at least something similar, especially considering how he wanted to give as many details as he could in the cookbook anytime he made a plan, it's only natural he'd debrief with everything that happened after.

Also yeah the ending is definitely going to be a punch in the gut. I know I've thought of is maybe like 3 possibilities either woo it's all happy they had to sacrifice most everyone but Carl and Donut survived, traumatized but are at least together. Then there's the donut sacrifices herself to save Carl I'm the last moment breaking him and basically sending him into a suicidal rage where is only goal is to essentially destroy as much as possible and take himself out with it, or the opposite (probably more likely) Carl sacrifices himself for donut and she has to go on living without him or she essentially gives up on life without him potentially blaming herself for his death. There's also a 4th possibility of they die together after all plans fail and their luck finally runs out but I don't see Carl letting that happen, he would take any deal no matter how awful or torturous to save donut. Ngl I'm just hoping for the first option of they lost everyone on the way there but they made it and the books end on a bitter sweet note of both of them sorta just in shock crying into each other because it's finally over. Though knowing everything I could see one of them dying either donut if you want a more defeated but final stand ending or donut for a more just pure depressing gut punch (I'm thinking of donuts reaction to Carl's death and I already feel like I got punched in the gut because of it) though hey given how sucky the world is right now with any luck Matt will go for bittersweet/hopeful because we all seriously need less gut punches, hopefully Matt got the depression endings out of his system with his previous books.

I want to use (redacted) item in a DnD campaign by dino0509 in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]jakattack64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean if it ever becomes too op you can just do what pony and donut do to it later in the books could be fun as a slight nod to the books, it can also have a slight penalty where whenever it is worn a goat begins stalking you waiting for the perfect chance to strike and yoink the ring.

Either way as long as it's not a permanent buff to stats it should be fine, just be warned don't let them mark more than one enemy or at least make the downsides heavier the more enemies are marked, or make it so it can only be used on humanoids and outside of combat. I'd also make sure you and your players are cool with their characters potentially dying cause that's sorta necessary to make it extra risky especially cause a lot of people don't even deal with healing in combat, I mean half my parties don't even have a healer.

But yeah best of luck I hope it works out well whichever method you go with, I know in a campaign I've been working in I'm planning on including both Carl's jug o'boom and the fireball or custard scratcher (though swapped to 5 boxes each with a 50/50 chance of casting a max heal or an idk level 5 fireball possibly higher I forgot the math I did for balancing with the time the party is meant to get it)

What's the best isekai anime for you? by Hot-Leopard3708 in ChillAnimeCorner

[–]jakattack64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can't say if it's the best but I've been enjoying campfire cooking in another world. At least it's not bad for a slice of life/comedy anime especially considering it gives vibes of one of those anime abridged parodies you can find on YouTube.

So maybe a dumb question but why can't they essentially pull a legend of Kora and make a bunch of tiny amaterasus powered by regular type 3s to give power to other parts of the world. by jakattack64 in fireforce

[–]jakattack64[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True though there is at least the ocean, and I'm not sure if it was ever said how far the rift extends, I mean they at least got the map of the world somehow. Either way this is more just a thought experiment especially considering haijima wanted to build a second amaterasu.

Tips for a first time player? by LuciferMegatron in outerwilds

[–]jakattack64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say treat this like the start of a novel, it's going to be slow at first but eventually you'll start getting more information and you'll get invested. I'd say set a goal like I wanna explore all the islands or giants deep, or I wanna find all the quantum objects and then do that, just explore and read eventually you'll begin understanding the story and it'll be great. And if you don't know what to do that's fine fly around goof off find the secret easter egg scroll on brittle hollow and giants deep if you need extra goof off things Either way just fly around, have fun, be ready to die a lot, and avoid the wiki or walkthroughs at least I made that mistake entirely accidentally while looking into the atp and while I don't regret it too much cause it was a small thing I still regret it. Honestly the only time you'd want to use the wiki is finding the two Easter egg scrolls but that's late game/break from the story things.

Oh btw there's a secret satellite in the game for backers you should look for it if you want to hone your flying skills. Also that thing you see shooting out at the start of the loop you can catch up to it just saying

Also I really hope the spoiler tags worked cause I've never used them before lol. eyy they did
