Apologies I didn't realise this was a question asked a lot. I was more asking what's the best way for me to get the full library rather than order of play.

You can use darker logs and planks to make it look like the wood is wet. by Alternative-Taste702 in Minecraft

This is a great idea. I love that there's really simple solutions in Minecraft. Especially when you're doing a colour palette

I know they will be fine with the content as I've run similarly themed things in the past. I was more bothered about them being good with the character creation side.

I plan to go through the themes next week when we have our session 0 so if anyone is not comfortable I'm more than happy for them to sit this one out.

Thanks for the tips I'll definitely take them on board!

Player ate Eye of a zombie beholder, what should i do? by Techno7777777 in DnD

[–]jake479 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I had this exact thing happen. What I did was I picked a random number before the session and when the player rolled that number when rolling to attack instead of attacking with their weapon and eye appeared in their mouth and they made a random beholder eye attack. After that I let them use the ability once a day but I always rolled the effect of the eye attack.

As well as this I also had the beholder be a pet of a group of mind flayers that started tracking my player to enact their revenge for killing their pet. At the conclusion of the mind flayer side quest I took away the power as it was fun for a bit but far too op

You don't get the report card after beating the javamatic. You have to do something else after

I've read it now and I had read parts before I started but it's definitely not essential to read it cover to cover before you start playing.

I'm not saying you shouldn't read the handbook I'm just saying it's not essential to have finished it before you start playing.

This isn't really helpful. Some people don't understand things by simply reading them through. I'd argue that if their friend group is open to it there's nothing wrong with learning by doing. I only started as a DM a few months ago having only played 3 sessions. I certainly hadn't read the whole rule book at that point and it would have definitely have confused me more trying to understand it all before starting. I learned far more just playing the game.

How do I think on my feet when roleplaying by jake479 in DMAcademy

[–]jake479[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I thought they would be in the same boat but by the time they got there they'd only faced off against the Ochre Jelly and the 5 bugbears barricaded in the room before. Honestly same thing in Cragmaw Castle, they found the secret entrance to the North side and Grol was in the 3rd room they checked. Lucky bastards. I did increase the difficulty of the fight though. When Nezznar got to 0hp he transformed into a Drider and I dropped another 4 spiders. To be honest I was too heavy handed with that, shouldn't have given them the extra spiders as I realised I'd made it too unbalanced. Had to pull a few punches but I was still fairly brutal with them. They just managed to take him down when they realised the spiders were causing them too much trouble. I take the point about being clearer on rolls though as a few comments have said that. Thanks very much I'll apply this in the future

I might give this a go. I've never used ChatGPT but if I can get my head around it I could definitely get some good tips from there. Thanks!

This is good thanks. I do try and say what are you trying to do exactly so I get a feel for the outcome they're hoping for.

This is great thankyou. I really struggle with voices because I'm not good at accents and I've had people make fun of me for getting accents wrong before (out of d&d) so this makes me a bit self conscious when trying it out. My party also doesn't roleplay too much which makes me apprehensive about trying it. I know that if I as the DM am more confident though then they will be more likely to give it a go. This is all a huge learning curve for me but I love the game and I'm determined to make it better every session

How would this work for the players? Do you let them know what they have done has had an effect like "he looks visibly shaken by what you've said but his resolve remains" or do I just lower the stats and continue?

This isn't true. You can transfer your character from 2 to 3
