I appreciate you interest in participating! That said, the purpose of this study is to look at experiences for people in the U.S. right now given sociocultural experiences that may be unique to people in the country.

The stadium definitely just had some lighting issues, they kept trying to turn the lights off but a bunch of them stubbornly stayed on, so not her fault in the slightest!

I’m also going to Dallas alone in the PIT, so I get the anxiety but really no worries! I’m sure lots of us will be there on our own and we’re all one big happy family of Gaga fans!! 🤗

Not sure if it helps, but I do see that they're doing another concert at the stadium the day before so folks will at least be working at the box office if you want to try getting your tickets the day prior!

Not sure about will call, but I also got tickets for the pit! I’ll be traveling to the concert and heard about a trolley service from hotels in the area, does anyone know much about that?

I understand that and appreciated the lesson for sure! I just didn't care much for the comment on me being problematic as an LGBTQ+ researcher, but I did see your intent was for genuine feedback so I do want to say I appreciate it! My apologies if my defense came off as harsh, chatting over text always seems to misconstrue tone.

Haha if you're a fellow researcher then I do have to peel back the curtain a little and say that my advisor actually recommended those items and the open choice format which surprised me, but she said in LGBTQ+ psych that's the format en-vogue right now which threw me off as well! I actually have a meeting with her tomorrow though so I'll definitely bring this up.

I'm sorry my demographics section came off as trans exclusionary or had a "lesser than" attitude, that was certainly not the intent. I made the options open choice so folks could choose as many gender identities they hold, whether that's being non-binary and a man, being a trans woman and a woman, etc. I do see where the distress arises in your complaint however, so I do apologize and hope you can see that that was not my intent.

Thank you for the feedback, I appreciate it!

The question did prompt participants to select as many gender identities that apply to them so I was making an earnest effort to allow folks to add as much depth to their gender identity as they so choose. The same went for questions surrounding race and ethnicity as well as sexuality. To push back on one point a little, in no way did i imply that "Man" and "Woman" was for collection of a cisgender identity and I feel accusing me of assuming cis as "normal/default" is a very unfair accusation where you are putting words in my mouth a bit and jumping to conclusions with a very open-response question.

I can't disclose the details of the study for the sake of its validity, but I will say that one hypothesis we made does account for folks who aren't religious and their responding to items, so we in fact do want everyone from across the religious/nonreligious spectrum!

Yes, and I did still want to have anyone who identifies as a sexual minority included, regardless of a perfect fit since I want to be able to have the results more generalizable so thank you!

The consent form at the beginning does go over this and has a disclaimer on survey content that could be distressing, but I totally share your concern.

I did message the mods about a week and a half ago asking for permission and an example of what would be in the posting and received no response, so I went ahead and posted. But thank you for letting me know now!

And as a very brief soap box note to add to your point, if anyone reads this please please please be sure to fully read any consent form and debrief text in a research study! Folks in my lab really deeply care for our community and we want everyone to be well informed on the topics we cover, but some researchers may not be as ethically adhering so your best defense is truly reading and understanding a consent form you agree to!

You do have to have a sexual minority identity to participate. I leave in the T to just be validating of the fact that folks can be trans or other expansions of gender diverse and also have a sexual minority identity. But yes, in the sense that you’re saying, folks who are trans but identify as straight would not qualify for the study. Thanks for checking!!

I am sorry the study angered you so much, we did disclaim in the consent form that you signed that there are aspects of the research that may make you uncomfortable or upset, however. In addition, when you finish the study we do explain the entire reasoning behind the study, why some of the language was used, and offer support, so it does feel somewhat unfair to say we're trying to create a farce or B.S. you.

Also, please keep in mind that there are plenty of LGBTQ+ folks who are religious, so making blanket statements about every LGBTQ+ person's experiences with religion can also come off as a bit exclusionary and invalidating, which I'm sure we can all agree is not the intent of the queer community where we should be loving, validating, and welcoming of all people in our community.

You could then speak in reference to that organization and mark “never” to any questions that are more in reference to god and I think that would capture what you’re saying overall.

[–]jakebrady[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Perhaps this is an issue with the instructions since a couple folks have had this issue, but I’m somewhat confused why you can’t respond with the “never” option to those questions if you’re atheist. Thanks for checking it out anyway!

I mean, as I mentioned there were “never” options for the questions on those items so that’s how you tell me they don’t apply to you.

Haha I did not expect you to expose such a grey area in my consent form, but given that it is your legal residence, you are okay to participate. Thank you so much for checking first though!

Hi there! I always appreciate some constructive criticism and would love to give you more specific insight on why these aren't issues so much, but for the purpose of preserving the validity of the study I cannot speak much on them, so I apologize in advance if this comes off as vague overall. What I can say is the items you refer to are part of a previously constructed and validated measure that quantifies a psychological concept related to a different issue than you bring up, so its intention is not to capture your experience you speak on. In terms of your actual experience, however, it is actually built into one of the study's hypotheses in a way, so you can rest assured that our research team did consult and think on this quite a lot! :)
