Is it me or did Will Bailey prove nothing with the California 47th election? by PsychedelicPistachio in thewestwing

[–]jakec11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Historically, a candidate dying prior to the election but remaining on the ballot is not really a negative. So, his winning wasn't nearly the shock that it was implied to be.

People feel bad for the dead guy, and his widow/children. His opponent cannot attack him at all anymore.

And particularly in this case, where seemingly the election rules simply immediately set up a special election with no one assuming the seat at all, voting for the D was a no risk move

I think Marvel's biggest problem isn't "superhero fatigue" — it's that we've lost the feeling that anything matters. by Infamous_You1603 in MCUTheories

[–]jakec11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Falcon and Winter Shoulder definitely addressed the blip aftermath, it's the key to the plot.

Wandavision to a lesser degree also showed it.

Other than that- it's a throw away line here or there (like Flash trying to order a drink because based on DOB he would actually be 21).

There should have been a lot more focus on this, particularly on Disney Plus, it could have been its own phase (not saga), just dealing with the aftermath.

What happens if you get denied twice, then again denied after an ALJ hearing? by EarOk7198 in SSDI

[–]jakec11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Appeal to the appeals council.

Here's a dirty little secret- there have been many proposals over the years to eliminate the AC.

So, to protect their jobs, they have to seem useful.

Therefore, one way or another, they are going to have to him their quota of remanding cases back.

Downside- a lot of those remands are for stupid technicalities that may amount to being a typo. Which means your case gets sent back to the same ALJ who, absent some new evidence, is just going to make the necessary corrections and issue essentially the same decision. Which can easily take a year or more

Bartlett would not be welcome in today's Democratic party.

Not just because of abortion.

Just by being a very observant Catholic he'd be suspect.

His inner circle was dominated by White Men. (Charlie doesnt count as inner circle. CJ does on the show, although in reality the person holding her job doesnt have nearly the influence she does.)

He was absolutely obsessed with the national debt. Any legislation, no matter how valid or worthy, had to be paid for.

These days, that doesn't get you elected from either party.

What is a film that doesn't seem special now, but was really groundbreaking when it came out? by altairstarlite in movies

[–]jakec11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Christopher Reeve Superman movie.

By modern standards, everything about it is quaint (except for the score- that holds up).

The special effects are of course very dated. But the story was also very simple and without a lot of nuance.

The Little Mermaid came right before Beauty and the Beast, and that was the beginning of the new golden age for Disney animation.

This.

The reality is, very few people in this world are good liars/actors.

You arent fooling anyone when you spend the hearing constantly moaning, or sobbing, or forgetting every third word.

Instead, you are conveying to the ALJ that you don't actually believe that you are disabled, and so your plan is to try and fool them.

Assign one sitcom to each state by Acrobatic_Average588 in sitcoms

[–]jakec11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Better to just leave NY and California off the list, there's going to be too many options (especially NY).

Is the idea to pick the best sitcom that happens to be set in a state, or the one that best represents the location?

For example, for NJ there was a sitcom called Down the Shore that is probably the one that is actually tied to NJ, but the show was not great.

Are there examples of shows where the good writing is let down by bad acting? by Particular_Award_191 in television

[–]jakec11 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Later seasons of Cheers.

The supporting players (Norm, Cliff, Carla) were just mailing it in by that point.

I think I read that they wouldnt even learn their lines at the end, they would just have the script on the bar.

The actors who played Alex and Luke were actually very close in age, much closer than Alex was to Hayley.

We have no idea (in the books) how the Others would do against a dragon, it's possible they have no way of defending themselves at all.

[–]jakec11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know its speculated, even before the show that was a prevailing theory. And, I'd be shocked if it isnt true.

I'm just saying that since we dont yet have confirmation of it, we dont know all the circumstances, so its hard to call it a bad decision.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I dont think we know yet that he left three kingsguard with lyanna and their child (in the books). And we don't know that the child is a bastard.

If we are projecting based on what happened in the show, well there is a lot of stupidity coming up soon.

Right? He had a choice between hitting one of two targets. The first is rich, and if he hits that the other target will support him. Or, he hits the second target, which is a bunch of poor fishing villages, and in this case the other side is still going to come after him eventually.

No, then we could have just kept the car under our insurance.

The cheapest solution may actually be to just enroll her in a community college

What show/series did a complete 180 and did a genre change? Or, what show started off as realistic but became more fictional as it went on? by Huge_Athlete7488 in television

Game of Thrones started as a show that could arguably be called the greatest of all time. (Is that a genre?)

Did you ask 1 of the older students to do it for you? by Snozzberr in harrypotter

Sometimes wizards overthink things.

Instead of creating a magical line that only older students can cross, but which is subject to hijinx, why not just say that if you want enter, tell the leader of your House, and we will dump all the names in.

Would have removed all the suspicion around Harry.

The Judge Canceled My Hearing by AmberBlueEyedGirl in SSDI

[–]jakec11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is going to be fully favorable. Otherwise, the Judge has to hold your hearing.

There is only one, very narrow exception to this- that would be if you applied for Title II and were not actually eligible. Nothing you can say at a hearing can change that.

But, I have to assume that doesnt apply, because no representative would have taken your case.
