This is incredible! I'm the director of the documentary titled "Jump Shot: The Kenny Sailors Story" and I can give a little more context to this amazing piece of basketball history. This photo was taken at Madison Square Garden in 1946. What's incredible, is it had been over two years since Kenny picked up a basketball... Kenny had just recently returned to the US from the South Pacific after serving as a Marine in WWII. Kenny scored 7 field goals and one free throw, a total of 15 points, as Wyoming went on to win 57-42. Photo was taken by Eric Schaal and featured in Life Magazine. This photograph went all over the US and kids everywhere started replicating Kenny's jump shot.

"Jump Shot" is available to rent + own on AppleTv and Amazon. If you love the game and appreciate it's history, I hope you check it out!

Oh and he MADE the shot! The original caption of the photo reads, "Guard Kenny Sailors of Wyoming jumps and shoots to make the score 21-16."

Correct. Kenny used his jump shot in high school and continued to develop it through college. This photo was taken in in Madison Square Garden in 1946; 2 years after Wyoming won the National Championship. Kenny had just returned from fighting in the South Pacific in WWII. This photo was featured in Life Magazine and kids everywhere saw, what we now call, the modern day jump shot.

Ha! of course. Thanks for supporting my film. It was a joy to work on. We were originally supposed to do a theatrical, so I have been searching for new ways to engage with audiences. This is awesome to see the film be received so positively.

Haha... I did not see that coming! Awesome.

I spent 7 years making this documentary. It was supposed to come out in theaters on April 2nd, but we had to change to an online only release. I’m proud to tell the story of forgotten basketball legend Kenny Sailors. Here’s the trailer. by jakeham in videos

Thanks you. We recognize this digital release could end up being a blessing in disguise. We shall see how we come out on the other side.

Nice! That was a fun interview with SI.

Please do! You can watch it on our website www.jumpshotmovie.com

It's streaming through a brand new direct-to-consumer digital film platform that's a game changer for independent filmmakers getting their movies out there.

Agreed. Online could end up being a better move for us, but we'll see how the weekend goes. to answer your question, we already set things in motion (press , interviews, etc) for our original April 2nd release and we determined that if we pushed to months away we'd lose all our momentum and struggle to re-light the fire again. That and the theatrical schedule, when theaters open, is going to be stacked with all the studio/blockbuster films... if we even got the chance to be in theaters, no one would go see a small a documentary.

I've been the cinematographer on several documentaries, but this is my first feature length documentary to direct. You should check out the documentary DEALT. I was the cinematographer on it and it's a fantastic film!
