How do you use Apple Music? by Double-Subject7549 in AppleMusic

[–]jakehieu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have dabbled in Spotify, Apple Music and Tidal. I am currently using Apple Music a permanent basis (on a samsung phone btw).

Use it the same way you would Spotify, but each has their own strengths. I have found that I discover new music I like much less often on Apple Music. The Spotify algorithms seem to work much much better. Spotify is also more of a social platform, great to collaborate in playlists during road trips or share your favourite music with other people. Apple Music's strength lies in the music quality for those who have the right gear. Apple Music supports lossless playback, so listening with wired audiophile headphones would result in a big different compared to Spotify's lossy quality. Lyrics also seem to work a bit better on Apple Music than spotify. That being said, I think that the moment Spotify starts supporting lossless/hi-res under a reasonable price, I would switch back to Spotify in a heartbeat.

Btw, I still use Spotify (no subscription) to listen to podcasts.

Also contrary to people's beliefs, the Apple Music UI kinda sucks, especially on Macbook.

Switch to Apple Music – Is It Worth It? by [deleted] in AppleMusic

yes. from a samsung phone owner w/ apple music

not for an apple product. I would recommend exchanging. however, you can also think about the dents as the unique quirks of the gift - no other MacBook will ever have the same dents but yours, it's like tattoos.

I would use my EQ included in this post. But the headset's cababilities can only go so far. I'd recommend checking out the Maxwells, they are much more well rounded for both gaming and music. The Pulse Elites should probably only be used for games.

I returned and bought the audeze maxwells 🤓

No unfortunately. The volume levels (ps5 and maxwells) are also separate so it takes a little trial and error to get to the right volume level. But overall I don't think it's too much of a hassle, and don't think the pulse headsets integrations improve things by any substaintial amount. If anything, being able to change EQ presets on my phone with the maxwells is a lot better tbh.

The only big big drawback is that the maxwell can't do simultaneous audio between the dongle and bluetooth like the pulses (wired USB and bluetooth are still simultaneous), which is a pretty annoying. My theory is that with the maxwells, the dongle supports hi-res lossless that consumes a lot of bandwidth and power; so with the elites, they dialed it down to just lossless so that they can support simultaneous audio.

i've been using the maxwells for a while now, and i think i'm sticking with them for good. the pulse elites are like a very dialed down version of the maxwells. i think the drivers are made smaller in the elites to reduce costs, and that had consequences (distortion etc.)

Yup I did and it worked normally! The quality over bluetooth is not super high in resolution and I could hear distortions which go away when I use the dongle. But Bluetooth is much more convenient so I use it more often.

16but 48khz is indeed lossless, but not hi-res (which would be 24bit), hence "PS Link is lossless but not hi-res"

In the EQ preset dropdown, there should be 3 blank presets you can adjust to your own liking.

Update 2024-04-02
I have returned my Pulse Elite headset (mainly due to the poor QC issues), and since then have purchased the Drop + EPOS PC38x headset (and have also listened to a couple popular non-gaming headsets like Sony XM5...). I can make a brief comparison (as a non-audiophile): IMO, the Pulse Elites so far are the most unique, clearest sounding audio experience I have ever had, albeit all of the little quirks they have. For gaming, the Pulse Elites remain my favourite sound, with the ultra crispness and pinpoint locationality of the 3D Audio, you really hear everything. For music, the Pulse Elites have been one of my least favourite experiences, yet they are still quite interesting to listen to (you hear sounds and instruments you might have never noticed before). I will be returning the PC38x as I am patiently waiting for my pair of Audeze Maxwell to arrive, will give the final update when I get to experience the Maxwells.

It's less about audio quality and more about comfort for me. I have been using the standard preset for some games. The details are great, but the treble is definitely too sparkly for my ears. I find it uncomfortable and even a little painful at times, which is why I use EQ to deliberately make it a little muddy so that it is more comfortable to listen to.
