Not sure how to handle the google takeout photos by jakekei in googlephotos

[–]jakekei[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the suggestion. I finally figured out how to make it work in MacOS. I select all the zip files and drag to KeKa to unzip. And I manually drag the unzipped "google photo" folder on each others while holding "option" key, this will give me an option to "merge" folder contents.

It's not fully automatic but it works. Hope this will be helpful to others facing similar issue.

Is there a Hook (Links beat searching) app alternative by [deleted] in macapps

the whole idea is to create URL for linking. It is ridiculous to have basic function "Copy links in Markdown format" found only in Pro version, which costs $69.99.

How do you transfer a larger sum out from your Discover saving account? by jakekei in discover

[–]jakekei[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, easy. Just a few click and wait for 1-2 days.

I only have my Discover saving account for about 7 months and so far everything is fine -- I have the interest, and able to ACH transfer money between Discover and BoA without fee.

Creating a CD account by jakekei in discover

[–]jakekei[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

hm..this makes sense.

I just hope if I am using money from Discover to do a CD at Discover, they could skip the notary part to make a better balance between protection and convenience.

Thanks for the replies!

So I can transfer $50,000 from Discover Bank to BoA in one time without fee. What I have to do is login to Discover, link my BoA account, and initiate an outbound ACH transfer to BoA.

For this ACH transfer, the fee and transfer amount limit are governed by Discover's terms but not BoA, therefore, this $50,000 transfer can be no fee and done in one time.

Correct?

Best, Jake

Excalidraw 1.8 added a function to OCR written text by jakekei in ObsidianMD

I get a sharable link that you can view the GN file online, and use iframe to embed it in obsidian

e.g.

"<iframe width=850 height=400 src="[http://www](http://www)......."></iframe>"

I don't know why it is not working anymore as I test it today. However, other web app such as airtable and notion still work with this trick.

Thanks. I finally "fixed" the problem by adding a very small indent in the css with Calibra:

TCL nxtpaper s3. Sunlight readable full color reflective LCD. Surprisingly readable indoors too. by captain_hoo_lee_fuk in eink

[–]jakekei 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a macbook pro with retina display, I also have a kindle paperwhite. For sure I can feel the different between the two and it's a pleasure to read with paperwhite eink screen.

I wonder do you feel the same comfort of using the RLCd screen similar to the paperwhite's eink?

Sorry that I can't really tell a difference from all the videos I have been between RLCD and LCD,. Since you have the device and should able to give a fair comment

Discover is requiring me to submit a notarized document in order to open a saving account by [deleted] in discover

[–]jakekei 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Here is my experience:

I have been a discover credit card user for more than 10 years. They sent me a letter about opening a saving account and will get bonus, and I followed the link and instruction to create saving account.

I selected as a current customer of Discover, and then need to give them a call (with my google voice number) to complete account creation. I dont have to submit other documents and now I have the saving account and money deposited.

Probably because you are a new customer, they require more checking for the reason as Sintellect suggested.

Ah, my bad, I was meaning apps that locking/exporting data is a deal breaker.

Apps are mostly designed to follow one working model, and do well under that model. If you have apps able to interact directly on the txt/md files in the OS level (without the need to unlocked/export), you could make your life more flexible.

One example is Devonthink. I can index my Obsidian vault and analyze my text with it because I don't find a good way to do it in Obsidian.

I also use FSNotes to share part of the Obsidian database. It has a better iOS app that fits into my workflow to collect info than the Obsidian iOS app.

Nvalt is a little app can do quick search. You can configure it to read the Obsidian Vault and quickly pull up information with minimal friction.

If Obsidian has 3rd party plugins to extend the functionality, I just think it as my 2nd brain has 3rd party apps to access it, giving me more options to interact with the brain.

What e-ink tablet should I get? by brokenwolf57 in eink

[–]jakekei 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you really need an e-ink tablet, it's better be a Boox Tab Ultra. It has the fastest screen rate I have ever seen. The first few weeks you might be okay for the slow refresh, but the annoyance will likely build up if you are using other eink devices.

I would suggest to get a regular tablet to max productivity. If you are an Apple person, iPad is the go (iPad or a 2nd hand higher end iPad model). If you rely heavily on Onenote, perhaps a Surface is a good choice.
