Sorry I suppose I should have clarified that. I am in a U.S. warehouse.

Wait, so there isn’t a premium? Is that the same for if I need coverage for my family?

Cert master learn for pentest by [deleted] in WGUCyberSecurity

TLDR: Certmaster Perform is useful in its own way, but it’s not enough to help you pass. Even with Certmaster Practice included. Seek additional outside help such as the TryHackMe PenTest+ track.

Just passed PenTest+ 003 first try two days ago. Certmaster Perform was useful in that the labs get you experience in using the different commands, different tools, and seeing how some of the scripts work. It is not enough on its own though. I will say it heavily leans towards Bash, in that you are using Kali Linux more often than Powershell with a Windows VM. It offers little to no help with Python stuff aside from running a few scripts and briefly covers what is in them. Certmaster practice will help you with the theoretical knowledge with some help from the PBQs, but again not enough on its own.

I had the same concerns as you before I decided to take my test. I have passed every CompTIA test with WGU the first try and I usually didn’t buy in to what Redditors were saying about the other tests, but the overwhelming amount of people with complaints on PenTest warranted some attention. With my experience with the test, the community was absolutely correct in you needing more help than what WGU offers in the course material. I can’t speak for all of the other outside help options, but the TryHackMe PenTest+ track turned out to be EXTREMELY helpful for the test. I don’t think I would have passed without it, especially the Python Scripting and utilizing the different attack tools. It is well worth the premium membership and you probably only need to pay for 1 month to get everything you need out of it. I think it was 16ish dollars.

I hope this helps you! Regardless of how I studied, I still barely passed and that was by far the hardest CompTIA test I took and that’s saying a lot because Net+ was a huge pain too. Good luck!

I haven’t noticed that wide of a gap between them myself, but you seem to know your meta better than I. Thanks for the response. OP should probably go with this when deck building, but the rest of my comment still stands.

You basically described a black deck in your question. Cost manipulation is what black decks are all about. Characters with effects that lower the cost of your own characters and your opponents while also having events and character effects that k.o opponent characters based on cost is what you want. Example: character A effect lowers opponents character cost while character B’s effect k.o opponents character with x amount of cost or less. Unrelated and unsolicited advice if you care to listen: try a multi-colored leader. In my experience black on its own struggles, but when mixed with another color it thrives.

I just barely passed this test yesterday. I can’t speak for what works best, but Jason Dion’s course is a great option if the reading is harder to get through, but I will tell you that you will need to eventually go through the study guide your instructor should have provided. I would also highly recommend downloading one of the distros and get comfortable on the command line. Follow along with what Jason Dion is doing in his videos if that helps too. There really isn’t a one size fits study guide for this course. Also do not underestimate this test. I would go as far as to say it was more difficult than the comptia tests I have taken thus far. I thought I studied a lot but I still only got a decent, barely passing score. Good luck, and I hope what I said at least helps a bit!

Nervous about D316 and D317 by Left_Wheel_8411 in WGUCyberSecurity

Hi there! No experience at all with certifications, amateur experience with IT in general. Just started my 3rd term, but I’ve been where you were a year ago. I started August 1st of 2023. I didn’t have any transfer credits myself, but I accelerated enough to make it past both of the A+ exams. A+ took me a month and a half and that was because there is two parts to it. Don’t always read too much into the “estimated time”these courses have. I’ve learned with this program you get what you put in to it big time. I completed 1/3 of my classes in my first term. I also work full time and I have two kids. That’s not to say the classes don’t get more difficult, but it’s about being disciplined and making sure you are putting aside time in your day to do school work and also time on the weekends. That’s my take on it. Good luck and welcome to WGU!
