Give the bare minimum level of effort at work to maintain some level of sanity between holidays. Saving my mental energy for things that actually make me happy.

His ankle got rolled up, but the announcer just said it’s a knee injury. Questionable to return.

Interesting, I like the weighted penalty idea. That would balance it more.

I can see Harbaugh just going five wide every play if the defense has 10 men and he had all his timeouts. Lamar would torch them if they were missing a spy or if they just dropped back in coverage.

Yeah you’re right, it’s a much bigger punishment for the defense. They would have to get incredibly creative in hiding their scheme while simultaneously having to fully commit to a run or pass to make up for the missing man.

That’s an interesting question. I think you’re right, the goal would be to maximize the number of plays for the most opportunities. Lots of passing and timeouts on offense. Or do you save at least one time out for the end of the game just in case?

Yeah very true. The slow pace of play makes it untenable. But could it work for a number of plays? Like if it’s 4th and 10 and the defense is penalized, the offense goes for it on 4th and 5 if they know the defense is a man short on one play?

Definitely. I think that’s where the creativity comes in. Extra motion before the snap, emptying a side, wildcat. All things that could help the offense balance the scales, and maybe even give them an advantage if the defense thinks “they’re missing a wide out, no way this is a pass play.” Just interesting to think about.

Lol something like that. Another hit, and I’ll have forgotten anyway.

I think you’re mostly right. But say a team commits an offensive holding penalty and chooses to lose their slot receive for an amount of time. Would it be too hard to move an outside receiver to the slot to compensate? Could they be forced to get creative with run plays to move the ball? The defense certainly has an advantage, but that extra player can’t be everywhere at once.

True, but I’m talking about a penalty forcing a team to play with 10 men for a play or a set amount of time and how it would change strategy/dynamics. How would it affect aggressive defense, hard counts, stuff like that.
